Let us have a practical discussion about different strategies you've employed to cut cost in your home or the methods you plan to use in saving yourself some money this new year.
I am very sure there is much we can learn form each other.
To reduce cost,
I realized that buying things in big quantities like bulk, saves me money because in my country, the retail cost of something today will likely not be the same price by the upper week. Prices are always on the increase, so when I buy in bulk, I do not have to concern myself with it for a while.
I turn off electric bulbs and appliances not in use to make sure that I reduce my electricity consumption.
I have planned to do more of cooking at home, and less buying of food from vendors because I am spending more on and cannot always trust the quality of the food I am buying.

I think that it highly depends on the country where we live. It will be very different to hear a suggestion from European because we have a different lifestyle, different income and possibilities. Don't get me wrong, life seem to be easier in UK, EU, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia compared to the rest of the world, especially for local citizens who own house and grew up in one of these countries.
In EU, many people who earn average salary per month, go to Restaurants while I've heard from some of my foreigner coworkers that they never go to Restaurant because they can't afford it. It's strange to hear for an average European because many of us eat outside in Restaurant at least once a week.
I'll try to think like I'm not from EU. To be honest, I wouldn't cut cost on food because I believe that we are what we eat. If we eat low quality food, our body will be left with low energy and low quality food also causes cancer and many other problems. We might be feeling well in our 20s, 30s or 40s but we have to think about our oldhood too because as times goes, we are aging and with low quality food, lots of new health problems arise. So, my suggestion is to focus on eating high quality food and do not cut a cost here. If you can make a food at your home and save some money, of course, do that.
Other than that, don't buy expensive clothes, don't go to Restaurant, use Bus instead of car or bicycle and so on.
