my question for the other bettors, what do you do in such a scenario
- go out and just accept that you failed miserably at an event you know you're really bad at
- try to get at least a bet right to have at least one win for your ego
- or even one step higher, try to recoup the bets (no way I'm doing that)

When I was starting out, I tried to recoup or regain my losses, but once I realized that it's not going to work in my favor, I stopped doing that. I just leave when I realize that I'm losing and things are going bad; gamblers should not mix their bets with ego; its going to be disasters waiting to happen.
Bet within your allocation; if you lose, then call it a day. Never extend your allocation because of your ego.

Now that most tracks in UK are frozen and Lingfield is on poly it's one of the few that run, so, out of boredom I played, they had 5 clear favorites under 1/1, one was 1/6, you can guess what happened, all 6 bets on favorites lost, all 4 bets on placing from the 3rd horse lost, 4 EW lost, I won't even say tricast cause, well, D'oh!!!

So here I am, bored to death and I'm looking at the next Chelmsford City race and I feel that I should both stay out of this for the day and also just place a damn bet to win at least once so, my question for the other bettors, what do you do in such a scenario

Quite well you are aware how really bad you are at the event, so bro quit it! As a sports bettor I really love to run off from any market that I discovers it has many times I have tried it not go in my favour, I just switch to something that have proven to work most times in my favour than it doesn't.

I understand, sometimes we want to think that by been persistent and resilient at that particular unfavourable game or market we might find breakthrough somehow, but may I remind you, you would be losing a lot of money all of the time of trying to persevere at it.

In as much as I don't take gambling as an income source, I really do love to win and catch my fun at same time but when am losing repeatedly for the day quitting is my next option to try again the next day.

I mean seriously, a horse that has won his last two races on the same track and distance and was upped only 1 pound in weight against horses that never won on CD, I would have banged my head against the wall if that had happened too. It won by 3 lengths, comfortably, and my misery ended.

It's not easy for most gamblers to accept the fact that they have failed and move on without trying to prove a point and shift blame, but in such a case I will just accept defeat and get done with it.

Whenever I have a losing streak that goes for more than 10 bets ( even if those bets are being placed in 1 month because I don't gamble a lot ) , I do feel the urge to win just for my ego to will better but I don't chase loses but I do understand what OP tried to say and I know that feeling. Also , in my case when that losing streak ends , it feels better ...but sometimes you lose the next bet instantly so this circle goes on and on with random cases when I do get a winning streak that usually doesn't last long...

I am a former horse player.  got hooked back in the sixties and lost many many many many times.


I quit the ponies.  I can give you a bit of advice. Never never never never never bet a horse under 10 to 1.

and bet smaller amounts then you bet now.

I once followed my ego and it did make me lose control of myself including the amount of money that was indeed lost quite a lot, actually we should not refill our casino wallet balance if the previous gambling has ended in defeat and no matter you have a lot of money that might be enough to bet, still depositing money back into gambling when you have experienced a defeat is better not to do because this has the potential to last in the long term.

I think that the behavior like you said is most likely everyone who gambles has done it, including myself who has done it, but with that it made me aware not to repeat the same thing again.

Many people like you where they realize that when they are never win, they want to urge to win for their ego. They still trying to win even if that's mean they must place more bets without thinks that gambling is not about win and lose but how they can enjoy for playing gambling. They don't remember that in gambling, they will have more chances to lose than winning the games so they must realize that when they are lose their money in gambling, they should accept it and not trying to urge to win. That can make them lose more and more and that can change their lives if somehow they become addicted to gambling. The annoying thing with Lingfield and Chelmsford, even Kempton sometimes is that they always have either a day where everyone comes to the flag just in the order of the odds or it's messed up so badly nobody would have ever guessed it, they had three Tricasts over 100s and one over 300!

They don't remember that in gambling, they will have more chances to lose than winning the games .

What will happen to your ego if you lose another bet in a desperate attempt to feed your ego? If this possibility has potential to make things worse, it's better to just give up and quit for now. Gamblers with a high ego can find themselves in delicate situations, where they spend more than they should and in very short periods of time. Yeah in the USA race sizes are smaller than they used to be and smaller fields mean lower odds.

But I found bet limiting was helpful because it cuts losses bigly.

Problems with jumps is that horses are at higher risks, so you don't run horses for the sake of running unless it's some Gold Cup, and if you do enter a horse you do it at least to get a place, so he will be 5:1 , 8:1 max, the ones that are over 10 are usually the ones that won't finish the race at all, unless we talk 3yo.

Ironically your tactic would work better exactly on sand/poly short races with a lot of newcomers, but god I hate those unpredictable races.

Well, there were only 4 races left and some tracks are at most once every week, so probably the next day (as it did happen) there would be a jumping event, and those I nail pretty often, not that I can make a living out if it but I'm never concerned of one draining my wallet.

Buddy you're very right, pride comes and end with different unforseen expectation and as humans we wouldn't know if our pride will end us  to the good side or the bad side but I think the holy book condemned pride that's to say that pride itself is not actually a good character to be portrayed by an individual that understands this facts
In the aspect of. Gambling, yea no one wants to lose but anyone that doesn't put losing as an inevitable occurrence in gambling, I think such person should be seen as noice in gambling and such an individual may likely end up to continue chasing loss which I see as unrealistic, for every gambler, be it newbies or old takers you must understand that every event has the way they operates and you must put this things into consideration if you really don't want to go astray in the system, when a gambler lose more especially a huge amount such gambler is expected to take a break though is not easy but it's worth doing to prevent such gambler from going off lane, there is time for everything so it is in gambling, time to lose and time to win but the mystery behind gambling is that no one knows when he or she will lose or win and i think this should be more reason why we should be more calculative and know when to say no when we are gambling irrespective of our pride or ego as we choose to call it.
