I don't know if opening a thread on this topic is appropriate, but I feel the need to open this thread due to the possible damages recently caused.

Recently, the "Devil's Wind" has caused widespread wildfires in California, particularly in areas like Los Angeles, leading to significant damage. These winds are dry, warm, and fast-moving, which makes them conducive to wildfires.

I have learned that recently, some people lost their cryptocurrency holdings due to the fires in Los Angeles. Their homes and the private keys to their wallets were destroyed. For example, a 70-year-old woman lost her apartment to the fire, along with her cryptocurrency. She had written her private key on paper, which was destroyed in the fire. As a result, she permanently lost access to her digital assets.

There are some effective steps we can take to protect ourselves from such losses:

Using hardware wallets like Ledger or Trezor to keep private keys offline, which provides physical security and protects from loss or destruction.

Keeping backups of private keys or recovery phrases in multiple secure locations.

Using wallets that require multiple signatures for access.

If private keys are written on paper, ensuring that the storage location is fireproof.

Fire-resistance objects would've been better if generating unlimited amount of addresses and keys from a single seedphrase were easy. People would just generate their seedphrases for all relevant cryptocurrencies only once, inscribe them on some of the objects and have them permanently stored on multiple locations. Then have a copy of the phrases written on paper for everyday use.

It was actually meant to be so, unfortunately running a node is hard for everyone,  certain services seem to limit the number of address that can be generated from single phrase, coupled with the issue of incompatible addresses  on a cryptocurrency which probably would mean creating another seedphrase, and the rise of new blockchains which makes the creation of new seedphrase necessary.
If a crypto developers were  creative and principled enough, most of the necessary and important features that make a cryptocurrency robust and pro-freedom would remain, and there would be compatible sidechains on advanced system with every possible features to eliminate the need to migrate to another crypto.

Yes I do think you are right it is very important we do not keep our private keys only written down on a papers. If there is a horrible fire like that and we are not home well then we can lose all of our crypto such a bad way.
I do not know what I would do if I did lose my crypto in something like this way. Or in any way of a natural disaster I do not know if I could ever be the same from that.

yes, we have to save phrase or key physically and online. so move it to a flash disk, ssd or when fire or other disaster we have to save laptop or where store key.
