Yesterday, the former heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, announced his retirement from boxing following a failed attempt of winning a rematch against Usyk.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLoijJ5-7x8&pp=ygUVdHlzb24gZnVyeSByZXRpcmVtZW50
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/articles/c1wejqevx1wo

It's not the first time he announced his retirement. He has done it in the past (2022) but later decided to return shortly after.
Whether it's a thought-through decision, or just his current mood - I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
He's 36, so not that old for the heavyweight, he could potentially have a couple of more fights in him.

I had to search around for a place to post about this yesterday. I do think it is time for Tyson Fury to retire. I don’t believe he’s the best fighter in the world or even close anymore. His legendary reaction time is likely slowing to the point where he knows he isn’t going to win another fight. He did all he could though while he had his chance.

Is there something that I am missing? I thought there supposed to be a rematch between him and Usyk? I thought there was a time it was announced that there would be a rematch between these two heavyweight championships. I still think Usyk is the best and I am ready to bet on him again but instead, I saw this disappointing news.

If he has retired or not, he has been one of the best boxers in the world but I think the retirement is early than expected. It would be good if he started to fight again.

Thats the problem with some retired boxers who still playing after retirement. Its not only him but a lot of boxers still doing some matches some are exhibition game but not titled just for the sake of money. Of course no one will refuse an offer even youre retired and if its a good money.

Well nothing new here but I guess boxers should not allow themselves to be tied up in money.

Yes, as I have said in the previous thread, this is not the first time that he declared his retirement and then boxing fans feels bad about it. But then we goes back again, and become the heavyweight champion. And it added the mystique on his name and held the belt for a couple of years more before going 0-2 against Usyk.

So we don't know what he is pulling this kind of stunt, and so it's hard to say if this is for real or Fury again playing with us and his fans. Although if you look at it, he is settled in life already with his winnings from boxing.

There is still the biggest fight, all British showdown with Anthony Joshua, so I think he will make this as his "comeback" fight.

Oh well, he has retired and unretired many times in his career, and so we don't know if he is serious enough that he will quit for good. There were one interview of him saying that boxing is like a drugs that it is addicted. That's why he has make a comeback in the beginning of his career, and then un-retire in 2022. He has fought the best in this division though, so we give him credit for that, but he lost to Usyk twice that might haunt him and will damage his legacy as one of the best in this era.

But if he is serious then good for him. He can't complain on what boxing has brought into his life, fame, glory, money admiration. But just like any things around the world and in boxing, Father time is undefeated. And so this might be the reason why he wants to retire for good, his body can't take the physical toll, specially that round 9 in his first fight with Usyk.

Although nobody knows why he's been acting that way.I feel like He's getting scared and he feels defeated. Then he should take a long break to rewind and unwind with & for himself.

It could have affected him mentally, I have to agree, most of the times when a boxer has loses, specially back to back or how they lost the fight, most of the time they will just quit because they are depressed. Just like when Pacquiao beat Hatton, Ricky was not able to make a comeback and later admit that it really affected him mentality because of how Manny beat him.

Although nobody knows why he's been acting that way.I feel like He's getting scared and he feels defeated. Then he should take a long break to rewind and unwind with & for himself.
In the Usyk fight, there are boxing pundits who says that Tyson Fury is afraid of Usyk. And they could be right as his body language is very different specially the first time and he delay the fight itself. But now, we know that it's obvious, because he wasn't able to take his revenge and probably that's why he wants to retire and doesn't want to fight anymore. Although as fans, we might be robbed of not seeing a fight between him and AJ.

Many athletes do this. They think they are done with the sport after achieving almost everything but later down the line gets bored and miss what it feels to be back in the ring again. You can't really blame them because all their life it is what they have done and that is their passion and I think it is hard to get the athlete away from the sport and find another passion for him when he has given his all for that one sport.

I don’t believe he’s the best fighter in the world or even close anymore. His legendary reaction time is likely slowing to the point where he knows he isn’t going to win another fight. He did all he could though while he had his chance.
I think one of the biggest hardship is an athlete accepting his time has passed. If an athlete is able to walk away with his head held high that is classy and will be remembered. But if he tries to keep going and just end up losing, it is all people are going to talk about instead of his greatest moments. So it is better for him to really hang the gloves.

that's true, they can't decline the offer even they're retired already. And to be honest it makes me wonder at first when i saw retired boxer having an upcoming match and it makes me think why they're still fighting after retirement. Perhaps nowadays that's what it is , i mean it seems most retired legends they box for entertainment only and of course money as well .like what's the rumours about tyson fury with jake paul.

At a point in life people need to retire, No king reigns forever. At this point he need to rest and maintain his prestige, you know the beauty of personality is when it's highly respected and never to fall to the ground. I read about a story that says "A good dancer knows when to leave the stage" and this means there is limit to what we do in other not to outperform our ourselves, by not allowing our dignity to be rub in the mud. In summary it's right time for him to retire.

I think his decision makes sense, it’s an admission of defeat, but he’s already accomplished so much in his career. He’ll still be remembered as one of the greats in boxing.

Unlike Wilder, who, even though it’s clear he’s not the same as before, keeps fighting, and most of the time, the results haven’t been in his favor. It feels like he’s fighting more for the money than the competition, and it’s starting to show like he’s not putting in the same effort in training anymore.

The fight already happened. It was a decision to make at the end.
Oleksandr Usyk successfully retains WBA (Super), WBO and WBC heavyweight world titles against Tyson Fury in Riyadh
That was last December 2024. But i think Fight number 3 is a good one for this.

Tyson fury can go back at the ring as he also retired before and made a comeback.

Isn't it surprising and some people think it like prank but some people think it serious that Fury really chose this decision carefully, there are news media that state one of the reasons Fury made this decision was because he felt cheated in the fight against Usyk and for me reason like this is not worthy reason for the decision to stop and retire from boxing.
You are also right that at his current age, Fury can actually still do some fights and even do rematch against Usyk, but yes everything is clear and Fury prefers to leave what he has built and obtained so far, although there is possibility that he will return later. Cheesy

I am wondering how he felt cheated. Like, did the fight not happen twice? Is he trying to discredit Usyk's effort? He is a man and should be able to deal with defeats. Accepting defeats is a part of the process of bouncing back from one; not wanting to accept defeat does not help the process. If that actually was his reason for retiring, although the decision is a personal decision for him to make, I think it's a pretty lame one.

so far, although there is possibility that he will return later.
If Mike Tyson could be in the ring to fight again after so many years, nothing is impossible with Fury.

We can wait for the next thing that will happen to him as I don't thinks that is not a serious decision. He still not old for the heavyweight so he can come back and have more fight.

Maybe that is related to his failed attempt of winning but no one will know what is in his minds. So we can only waits and see if that is his final decision. Well, if he really retired as a boxer, he can do many things or he can do what Mike Tyson before so he can still earn money Grin

I am surprised but I fully accept his wish to retire and think this is the right thing to do. It is best to retire when you start to feel you are no in prime and leave when peak for is over. All this has happened with Fury. 3 last fights he has lost in a row (even though he won against Ngannou). 3 last fights brought him good money. He already has a long career, 17 years in professional boxing. He has already achieved a lot and made his name legendary. So it was a right decision to retire. It is not necessary to turn into Derek Chisora Cheesy

So let him retire. As a fighter, he's not interesting anymore. Well, age suggests that it's time to end your career.

Apparently you missed the fight that already took place. Tyson Fury lost, and I lost my bet with him. Usyk defended his titles. Well, I wouldn't call the fight itself particularly interesting. In fact, everything is the same as last time.

Btw, do make much drama out of this story. This is his second retirement already. Like he has announced his retirement on Instagram, he could announce his return Cheesy He would take a rest, drink some beer, enjoyed his life for year or two, clear his mind and return for a exhibition fight or professional against worthy opponent. Even though he has retired from pro, he still is an interesting opponent to have a boxing fight against.

If i am not mistaken rumoured Tyson Fury scheduled will met Anthony Joshua on this year even Joshua promoter has been attempts to make it happen and i think if this really happen then it could be an epic fight and it's hard to predict who will win this fight but unfortunately he has decide to retire but Tyson Fury has reach his peak of career so he almost won everything as a boxer so he will be retired as a legend and everybody will be remember about that but as we all know that this is not the first time that he announced he would retire so let's see if he really retired or will come back to fight in the next few month
