Hi all,

New here. I'm traditional equities trader that got involved with BTC in Feb 2020, and have fortunately bought at at every bottom since then. Diving into altcoins, I'm wondering how many coins do y'all recommend one should hold at one time? Let's say I'm still just dabbling and want to invest $5k (OK with this going to zero), how many altcoin do you recommend that I'd invest in for the risk reward to be 10x or 0?

Thank you,
You have been into bitcoin since 2020, let say for 5years now, I'm sure you are suppose to know better in the crypto market.  Altcoins are very risky and you need to do your research before investing in any Altcoins. From the time you have been into bitcoin it is enough for you to observe the market and to know if Bitcoin or altcoins have more risk to invest.  I will always recommend Bitcoin because it is safe and reliable for investing compare to other altcoins.
The title should probably be changed to how many bitcoins should you own at any one time, not altcoins. Because bitcoin is the future and the risk is lower compared to altcoins, especially since there are tens of thousands of altcoins, many of which end up losing money and some are scams.

But maybe I understand what the OP means, because he has been in the crypto world for almost 5 years, that means he has invested in bitcoin and has made bitcoin a priority. But he wants to invest in altcoins too, so for altcoins it is better to look for altcoins that have a good community and fundamentals in this case I suggest investing in altcoins that are in the top 10. But don't make altcoins for the long term, when you have a profit, switch everything to bitcoin because bitcoin is a very ideal asset for the long term.

R

For me I expect someone who have been into bitcoin for a longtime to have no interest for altcoins because they know better. Bitcoin can always give you all you want in cryptocurrency,  and the number of years one has spent in the market it won't be strange for one not to know. For someone who is very familiar with bitcoin will just concentrate in accumulating bitcoin more than looking for altcoins to invest because thinking to invest altcoins is always a risky move.

If you have 50k for bitcoin investment and you are allocating only 10% for altcoin investments then I guess your strategy is good to go with. Because, altcoins may get you profits but in most cases it will depreciate over the time in BTC values but may get you profits in USD wise. It means you may choose bitcoin alone to enjoy better returns in USD terms. If you are lucky, you may get better returns in BTC terms then you can assume you did a great job. This is the reason, 10% risk of your total capital in altcoins is not a bad idea in my opinion as well.

I'm traditional equities trader that got involved with BTC in Feb 2020, and have fortunately bought at at every bottom since then.
Keep going. I like to suggest you like, instead of waiting for bottom to buy more, develop a practice of buying at regular interval. This way, if you are lucky you may get bottom prices or if market turns bullish you can be sure about not missing "possible bottoms".

There's nothing you can do if he would be choosing up altcoins over Bitcoin? We do know that when it come into that % increase or potential profit, then altcoins could really be able to give it out that much more better gains on which this is that understandable. In the questions about on how many altcoins would really be that trying out to hold? Then it will really be that up to you on which on how many altcoins that you are really that trying out to hold. Its your money and since its been said or mentioned that you are already that prepared or have already accepted out for it to lose then thats a good thing to hear because its never been that recommended that you should be trying out to invest or put up your life investment or emergency funds into it on which that would really be that a suicide decision to be made.

If you do already been here on this market for a while now, then it will be just that too impossible that you arent that still familiarized into the market movement that we do have. If you do want to have that at least having some solid choices then you can always choose up those top ranking ones, but if you are that wanting to deal with low caps or having those cheaper prices or low rankings then it will really be that up to your choice. Just make it sure that you will really be that not making yourself that being too careless when it comes to choices or selection.

I am not an investment experts but what I know is that altcoins investment is not what someone must pick for you, you need to do a deep research about the coins you are interested in and if you finds out that the coins have the potential of doing 10x of your returns on investment, you can go ahead an invest in the coins, it doesn't have to be one to two coins but as many as you can find that has the potential to give big ROI. When you don't do your own research and you take the suggested coins of friends, you have to be ready to bear the risk of losses too.

With $5000 you should probably buy $2000 Ethereum (it’s bound to pump soon, been flat so long). You should buy $1500 Solana & then allocate the rest to multiple low supply cap tokens. Maybe buy some Floki Inu too. I’m just advising you what to do with a small $5000 budget. For me personally you have to own some Bitcoin but I guess the returns aren’t high enough for a newbie to be happy.

There is enough altcoin that you can invest in but the best thing you can do is to make decision after you have made your own research because that is the most important thing when you do your own research then you will be able to make decision on what coin to invest in or not,  so that you don't invest your coin on the wrong hands because there are a lot of shitcoin that the moment you invest your money the next thing the price starts coming down so you have to make a decision on what coin and how much you invest and what exactly you are getting in return so when you do all the mathematics it will make things more easier for you because when you want to become an investor you have to think like one. We know there periods that your plan will not work but when you are consistent then you will know things to aviod, most people don't even know the things they want to aviod. Ik this game you just have to be very smart.

Since you said you are new here let me give you straightforward but not financial investment advice to stay with XRP Ethereum and majorly Bitcoin this season, we have seen how the entire market has reacted to various market actions both external and internal and as to what proportion those market action affected the project both in the good way or bad ways.

My portfolio is made up of 80% Bitcoin and the remaining percentage goes on to the rest of the other altcoins with great potential.

If you trust in Ethereum, spending $2000 is okay. However, there is no guarantee that Ethereum will be pumped soon. We don't know if Ethereum will hit a new ATH or not. Ethereum price movement in this cycle is totally different from the previous cycles. So, we shouldn't be so surprised if Ethereum price is unable to increase significantly. Solana, BNB coin, TON, and XRP are the altcoins that look better. You're better to buy these coins than you spend your money to buy Floki or other random altcoins. TBH, I will spend $3000 for Bitcoin and $2000 for those good altcoins if I have $5000. I may spend $500 only for Ethereum from $2000 allocation for altcoins.

Investing in altcoins is not like a gold mine. You could win yesterday and lose today so many investors should not see it as a way to make huge profits in the market. There are altcoins you will buy in the market that will give you amazing profit and there are some that will make you cry. This is why we need to be smart and do a lot of research when investing in altcoins that don't have a known team or experienced team that have been known in the crypto market with their influence. We can as well hold different altcoins in the market that have great values.

Hi all,

Thank you,
In a short-term investment plan, hype projects are quite profitable, but the risk of getting caught in a scam is too high as well. If we want some assurance, ETH is the best candidate for that.

But if I were you, I would only focus on BTC because this gives us certainty. unlike altcoins can do. Investing is not just about the money we could possibly get and choosing where we can earn more, but the most important thing is that we are safe. At least, in Bitcoin, we feel safe and will keep on rallying in the future.

Depends on how big you want your portfolio to be and how much volatile can you take lol but I guess you should still HODL the most in BTC

Investing in altcoins is not like a gold mine. You could win yesterday and lose today so many investors should not see it as a way to make huge profits in the market. When I think about putting money into altcoins, I know I've got to dig in and do my homework, not every coin's going to make me cash. I'd rather pick projects I believe in, ones with real promise, instead of just jumping on what my buddies are hyping up. Spreading my bets across a few coins feels smart to keep things safer, but honestly, I think having a solid game plan beats everything else. I've also been eyeing mining, it's a cool way to stack up crypto while I hold onto the coins I really like. For me, it's about being chill and smart, not jumping in all hasty. I've gotten screwed chasing fast cash before and it sucked, so now I'm hooked on those slow, steady wins that actually last.

Been smart is weigh differen from working hard enough in the market. Do you want to know what a gold mine is in crypto? Most of us thinks investing in memecoins is the goldmine but unknown to us that the future trades is nicknamed the crude oil in trading. We should leave spot trading and focus more on future trading because this is the sector that have been quite beneficial and have also made us welcome loss. The market is filled with volatility, what more causes can make us record losses? Investing in altcoins, we become timing in the market because the slightest mistakes will definitely ruled our plans in the market.

Hi all,

Thank you,

When it comes to altcoin, it has to be what you are willing to risk and can afford to lose. If the amount you have and willing to invest into altcoins are not what you consider to forfeit to the market, then you should consider seeking other options of investment and if it’s solely cryptocurrency, I’ll advise you stick to investing in bitcoin as your main portfolio. Altcoins are not an investment that you can give yourself a targeted x’s of profits that you wish to have, they may go your away, or even go way above your way or not even go your way at all. On how risky it is and advised not to invest in them, they may still give you that big profit you ever wish for but make sure you’re risking what you can afford to lose.

I don't know if you have joined Altcoins, if not then it is very good for you and if you have joined then maybe you know how you took the situation but I cannot advise you to invest in Altcoins but you can keep any amount of Altcoins if you want.

You are correct. Altcoin is not an investment people need to run into and just accept anyone that is being recommended by friends. There are lots of altcoins in the market and many are not legit, it is important to make your own research and not to rely so much in investing altcoins because they are not reliable to invest. Altcoins are project that you don't need to invest a good amount but the money you can easily afford to lose .

Thank you,

Maybe it's better for you to do your own research on which altcoins are good to buy for the future to provide profit. Because there are actually many potential cryptocurrencies in the market.
So, just look at the other suggestions that other communities can give here in this section.

All I can say is that it's better to base your choice on those that are always in the top 20 listed in the market, for example on coinmarketcap, coingecko, crypto.com and others,
so that at least those I mentioned are guaranteed to have liquidity in the coins you buy, and then balance what some people here have said.

The results of the market analysis of altcoins were not very satisfactory. Accumulation Bitcoin would be an easy solution for an investor to get more profit. For a new investor, the market analysis report I see that the results for the past years were good for altcoins, which have provided high profits to some investors in a short period of time, but the current market is largely bearish. The future prospects may not be satisfactory. I expect a wide spread for Bitcoin and its price to have more upward potential.

The current position of Bitcoin is also in a very good position, but the current seasonal position of every altcoin is not satisfactory, only altcoins are in a recession. The next position after Bitcoin is Ethereum. If we look at Ethereum today, we will see that Ethereum has not increased at all this season, but has decreased even more, not only Ethereum, but the entire altcoin market is now in a recession. Therefore, Bitcoin is the best for investment. Investing in any other altcoin other than Bitcoin will not be very profitable. Investing in Bitcoin will make a profit today or tomorrow, but it must be remembered that a long-term plan will definitely bring a lot of profit from the investment.
