Years ago, I made the mistake of wiping my computer without properly backing up my Bitcoin wallet. At the time, I had around 7 BTC stored, which seemed significant even back then, but I never imagined what it would be worth today.
I've spent countless hours over the years trying to recover it—searching through old drives, using recovery software, and even consulting with data recovery experts. Unfortunately, I’ve had no luck so far. this is a lot common than people might think there are people out there who did not value their bitcoins that much back then being too reckless with the way they store their bitcoins until they lose it and now they are regretting it because of what bitcoin has become now You are bad because BTC turn to be great now and will be forever. This kind of story is common to early adopters of BTC because they gave it a less value then and never see it to be like this in the future. One thing I'm sure of is that, most of this people with such story can never leave their coin this far if wallet never lost. They would have sold it long ago. So don't see yourself losing with the present value of BTC but only with the value you would have sold it back then if your wallet isn't lost.

Copyleaks: AI Content Detected Sapling.ai: 100% Fake GPTZero: 100% Probability AI Generated
LOL. It is funny and at the same time annoying to understand that everyone is replying and being sympathetic to an Ai generated crap. No please, don't tell me this is Ai generated. It will be heartbreaking... It could have been a good topic to explore, as this topic could become a reference for people who lost their coins, but there was a flaw in the story, as recovery experts and software recovery programs can recover it if it wipes up only unless it is shredded by shredder software, as it will rewrite the data. There was no mention of the use of shredder software to wipe up the computer, so there's error in the story. Whatever AI OP uses it did not came up with a flawless topic.

I'm Sorry about your Bitcoin Lost case, this kind of situation has happened often to many people and this is as a result of negligence and not taking things too seriously. This kind of issues has raised a concern to the Bitcoin holders, to ensure the safe keeping of there key properly to enhance security and to be able to recover at any given time. I have read about a person that Lost thousands of Bitcoin to hardrive due to lack of backup and was forced to excave the sewage dump to find the hardrive but he failed. So we should be more careful to keep our keey safe at the initial time of wallet start-up so that we don't fall victim.

If anyone has experience recovering wallets from wiped drives or tips that worked for them, I’d love to hear about it. Sometimes I still hold out hope that there’s a chance, no matter how slim. Did you had the Bitcoin stored in the non custodial wallet or the custodial wallet? Because if a custodial wallet, you can muchly recover your wallet if you are still accessible to your wallet registratered contacts as email or phone number during procession. Dynamically... is it a non custodial wallet? If YES, then you would have little chance to recover it if the system format was carried on slight in an encrypted command with the hard disk drive because you might be lucky to still have some left over file data's that your wallet recovery details might be reachable to proceed your wallet recovery. If also a soft disk drive that means the chances to flexibly flush all file data's is possible which might be hopeless for you due to unresist able commands to reserve files during the formatting operation. But I bet it that you will have an 98% difficulties on try of making this a success.

have good news for you, it possible to read single deleted byte from magnetic HDD even if it was deleted, it still keep small bit of magnetic force from previous write, although special tool required, have radio electronics related university degree, further research possible Years ago, I made the mistake of wiping my computer without properly backing up my Bitcoin wallet. It’s a tough lesson I’ll never forget, and I’m sharing this as a reminder to everyone: always back up your wallets securely and double-check before making irreversible decisions. Since you wiped your harddrive (overwriting all data on the harddrive) you're out of luck, it is by no means possible to recover the previous data with your privatekey information.
If you had just formatted the harddrive instead, a recovery would most likely have been possible. Sorry for your loss, deal with it and get on with your life... start stacking again

This is a big mistake you’ve made that you will never forget in your life, because this 7 BTC that you just stated you lose after wiping all your computer by mistake; by now you could become what even yourself will expect when the Bitcoin is about hit the $200k you could they with huge profits by now. To recovery this your Bitcoin wallet it will be very difficult, because write from the m time you create the wallet you refuse to put the strong backup; if not you suppose get a simple way of recovering your Bitcoin wallet shapely.

Sad to see such things, and you are not alone on this street, many others have lost hundreds of bitcoins. The most important thing is to back up your private key in different places, so if one place is accidentally demolished, the other place will be protected, and you can access your bitcoins. This is most common among people who bought bitcoin in its early stages, but they didn't know at that time that bitcoin would go so high, and they never paid attention to their storage. Now, when they see the price, they remember their wallets, but unfortunately, they have lost them.
Maybe someone can help you here. You know no one can do anything for free, so give them an offer, if they recover your bitcoins, you will give 1/4 of one bitcoin. It would be better to give a small percentage in one coin than to lose it all.

Before you reset or something, you need to make sure that you have backed up the necessary files that might be important to you. I’m posting here because I am in the same boat, but not just about a Wallet. It’s about memories on my computer that I haven’t been able to back up in another drive, and I lost all my videos.
I hope that you manage to recover it somehow and find a professional team to do so.

Maybe it is from the prompting. The Op might have prompted the Ai this way "make me a brief story that I lost 7 BTC in years past when I formatted my computer, and had consulted recovery experts but they said it impossible to recover". Of what essence then?
This made me giggled. For someone who lost 7 Bitcoin, you would expect after the post to atleast stick around, interact and get some insights about the next move in recovering the lost Bitcoin. But since OP's post about 3 days ago, he/she disappeared and hasn't logged in on the forum. so it's likely the story is fake and it never happened.

7 BTC may not be as great as it is now, but when you look at it now, you start to remember this and start doing all sorts of ways to recover the Hard Disk that you formatted.
But is it possible that it can be recovered easily? This depends on how much hard disk is overwritten with a lot of data deleted, or after you format the hard drive, you don't do any other erasure.
If that does happen, it is possible that file recovery can be done, but it does not become you get the files normally, because some files will also be corrupted when recovered.
The least possible and very little success when the data has been overwritten with new data being deleted, it allows files to pile up and of course it is almost impossible to recover.
Just need to see how the hard disk is doing, if it is very, very unlikely, then be willing, there are still many ways to be able to get the 7BTC even though it is very difficult for now, but nothing is impossible.

7 btc right now isn't a small amount of money due to the increase of price but what happened to you happened to many people who also lost their bitcoin due to only having only one backup or wipe their computer like you did. Anyway, other people lose their bitcoin which is much more than what you lose. I don't know if your story is real since there are other people who also lose their Bitcoins but creating a thread and doesn't interact with others and leave the thread because there's a possibility that you might recover your files by using a recovery software if you haven't store new files which will overwrite the record.

I don't know if this is a made-up story or not. Why OP needs to disclose the amount of bitcoins? To attract attention? Maybe, maybe not.
To recap for short: no backup, no mercy! Seriously, how many years must've passed that someone wouldn't care to have multiple redundant backups of a wallet that hold a few, or more specifically in this case, seven bitcoins?! I wouldn't understand it even when Bitcoin were only worth two-digit $$ equivalents and those times are very long ago, aren't they.
Let's assume it was very likely a Bitcoin Core wallet, where there are no mnemonic recovery words as backup. With Core wallets you need to have wallet file backups, no matter what.
Redundant backups are your "life-line", don't forget this, ever.

The problem is that people don't always anticipate that a thing that they currently possess will be worth a lot of money in the future and might possibly change their life for good, so they don't care at that time; they don't give it that much importance, might even sell it cheap or give it away for free because it basically doesn't have that much value for them. Fast forward a few years, that thing becomes rare, and people start demanding it in crazy numbers, and it tends to sell at a very high price. That's when they realize what they have lost. Too many people must have had Bitcoin back in the day, but only a few of them must have managed to keep them safe or even hold them until recent times when its price surged, and they became millionaires or billionaires without even doing anything. It's crazy, right? Imagine having a net worth of a few hundred dollars and then having it changed to millions or even billions of dollars because of something you did way back in the past.

Don't be naive, besides the OP being unable to write a post without AI, doesn't anyone see the link he put in his profile? The fabricated story is just bait for the scam he is trying to promote - unless someone thinks cloud mining makes any sense in 2025?

...If anyone has experience recovering wallets from wiped drives or tips that worked for them, I’d love to hear about it. Sometimes I still hold out hope that there’s a chance, no matter how slim. If you have used Windows in your work, then it provides for automatic backups. I think you should seek help in https://support.microsoft.com/ But in any case, you should not give your computer into the wrong hands for recovery, as it is possible that they will be able to restore the data on the computer, and they will gain access to your wallet, telling you that their attempt was unsuccessful.

Never mind him man. I read everything in the thread to agree that it was just an AI generated text to gain sympathy from community members and probably try to soft shill a scam later on. Even if it were to be true, the hard drive have been wiped out for many years as afaik, hard drives like SSD are harder to recover data from. Almost impossible.

To my knowledge there are no automatic backups in Windows out-of-the-box. You may be asked if you want to backup your personal files to Onedrive or so, but you have to set it up explicitly. I wouldn't really call this a backup as it affects only very specific user folders. Good luck with seeking help from M$ support in such cases. Probability of success of data recovery is heavily dependant of various factors. The faster you stop the OS from writing to the drive, the better! If you accidently deleted something important, it's not a bad recommendation to hard-cut the power of the computer and then remove the drive from it. From this point on you mount the drive read-only until you had success to restore your data. (Make a forensic bit-by-bit backup; only work on copies of this forensic backup; do not alter your drive or your forensic backup of it until you succeeded to restore your data.) What is meant by "wiped drive", regardless whether OP shills a fake story or not? If you only delete partitions, data structures of partitions, then usually no data of the partitions is deleted. It's possible to restore the partitions and the filesystems in them are usually fully intact. If you quick format your filesystem, then directory and file data location details are lost but not the file's data on the drive. Files stored as continuous data regions could be restored if you find the start and end of the file. Files that are fragmented are more difficult to restore because you need to find those fragments as reliable as possible (could be almost impossible, depending on the file type and other conditions). If your files were in subfolders, as far as I remember, your chances might be better, because directory and file allocation details in those subfolders might still be intact. But this is also very dependant on the filesystem that was used. You have basically no chances of data recovery when a "wiped drive" has been overwritten with zeroes or garbage data OR your drive is self-encrypting and the wipe operation discarded the internal encryption keys. In the latter case, the drive wipe is virtually instant, all subsequent data reads only give you garbage data without the correct decryption keys present. Deleting data on SSDs and executed TRIM operations by the OS can render the trimmed data regions of the flash storage useless, depending what the flash storage reports back from trimmed data regions (could be zeroes, could be random garbage, rarely it's the previous data, this is device dependant).

Quite unfortunate, sorry about that. If you had known earlier you would have backed up your device, and save the recovery phase to your email address likewise write it down and store in save please. At times this incident occurs due to ignorant, now I will ensure I go back to my wallets and back then up, I have been ignoring it for awhile now.
