I was here for a  couple of months and I don't know or observe all these, but am very surprised of this issue brought out by freshly newbie.

I can tell you from my local board, though I'm not quite active.
I do check post in the board and it's always rare not seeing a thread merited by Cryptoneurbrainboss.
If what you said was entirely true, I would still be a member or Jr member.
There are merit sources that check around the board, it's not even rare receiving merits from post you made months ago.

About meriting pictures and neglecting efforts? Most of the time I merit post with funny remarks or sarcasm than longer post.  

Great suggestion! Merit sources for a board shouldn’t be members of that same board. Instead, they should be assigned to different local boards, especially now that translations work effectively.

You're acting all big in your alt account, why don't you ask this question with your main one? Are you afraid you're going to be stigmatized? You're indirectly begging for merit. I can understand that ranking from from newbie to Sr or Hero member takes time, but you've probably never seen the spam this forum had before the merit system was introduced. Yes, higher ranked members are way more influential than a newbie, which is the reason why you'll see more merits given to them, but that's not the point, the system isn't perfect, but it's adequate.

To me, it just sounds that you're salty that you cannot rank-up enough to enter a signature campaign. I've acquired approximately 700 merits, even without the 250 I was airdropped as an Sr Member, I'd still be a Hero member.

It has become normal to see people raging after some time when they find it difficult to rank up because they aren't able to produce good enough posts that would get them merits and eventually get through the ranks, and to be honest, this proves that the merit system is still effective. Any and all confusion could have been clarified had the OP used his real account (or one of his other accounts if he has more than one).

I think it is a deliberate ploy on his part to express some frustration using a newbie account because maybe he is unable to rank up one or more of his accounts as they require merits. I might have it wrong but he does seem intelligent enough to not use his own accounts to engage in merit abuse because he knows the consequences if they become linked.

He will enjoy the attention for a few days before getting bored then will revert to utilising his time on his other accounts.

Funny you should mention the Nigerian board, The very first thread on the Nigerian board is a pinned merit ranking up thread by the moderator of the group. That is an initiative to help members grow. I glanced through the thread and they even helped somebody rank up just about 3 days ago.
It also explained a lot that you created an alt just for this.
Maybe you have information I don't but from what I can see, the board is doing what they can to help people grow. You can't expect to be given merit for absolutely nothing. You can't get merit simply because you created an account. You have to be part of the community at the very least.

As much as I understand your grievances about the merit sources, the Nigerian board is not a good example of your case.
There was also a thread to submit unmerited posts that are worthy of merits for review. It has been locked for about 2 months now, but I'm just trying to point out how untrue your accusations are.

People who make throwaway accounts always fall back on the "not wanting to damage the reputation of their primary account", but then become instant assholes for whatever reason. I don't really like meriting assholes, either, just FYI.

First and foremost,  you are not speaking on behalf of the Naija community, rather your personal opinion. We in the Nigerian community are happy with the progress we have made as a local board. The Naija local board have been a very active local board, hence the reason we asked for additional merit source and a mod which were graciously granted by Theymos, so it is not appropriate for us to start complaining now as that will will be seen as being ungrateful. 

Furthermore, we just had a cooking contest organised by Mia Cloe and another  contest by our mummy @SmartGold01. There were lots of merits shared by both the Naija merit sources and others from other boards who came to support those contest. Did you participate in those contest and they refused to give you merits? Or you feel merits will be shared to you by just being docile in the local board?

Next time think properly before making this kind of posts please because it does not make sense at all. Engage actively in the local board and they will give you merits.

I think that they should work like moderators in each board. Each board has a few merit sources, voted by members of that board. I don't think the community is active enough to achieve this and I do believe it's subject to manipulation by alts, though in a world where the sense of community was at this level where it could work, that would be a cool thing to see.

That's actually not what I meant. I meant that each board votes for the members most active/top contributing to that board as the merit source for that board in something like a pinned thread on each board, for its board and sub-boards. E.g. the German board vote on a merit source of someone who is active and top contributing in the German board and its sub boards, the gambling board has its merit sources who are primarily active in the gambling board, and so on. That way each board is stimulated with merits in a more balanced way in comparison to the way it works now which seems less democratic and more based on popularity contest/unofficial voting by members of each board.
