Clergy men and women are the most respectable set of people in any society,on that note, they are not expected to get themselves involve in any political gathering or even coming out openly to make choice of leader as it is against the ethics governing the Christendom family, that’s reminds me there was a time when Christianity was a unefying force which promotes values, benefits and culture of people living therein. But nowadays Religious leaders are the one that choose political leader and front them to their members because of selfish interest.I have made to understand that in the scale of 1-100% problems we are facing in a political terrain, about 90% is coming from those sycophants calling themselves men of God.
Most of them will use the name of God to lie in order to gain favour from this political leaders which is not suppose to happen,it is been assumed that any religious leader that indulge in this act is not worthy to be called MAN OF GOD because it really displays a high level ridicule and mockery in the HOUSE OF GOD.I don’t think,it right for a clergyman to get his or herself involved in any political affiliation, they are to stand a neutral ground.
I no suppose talk on dis kind topic but dey way some religions leaders come dey carried away because of this small money wey diz hungry politicians dey give dem,on a norms dey no suppose bring diz kind thing near church, that’s more reasons am strongly against them.

Pastors, clergymen and all religions leaders are citizens of the country and as such have all the right in them to get involved in whatever political happenings that is going on in the country. For me, it's totally wrong if they refuse getting involved in who leads the country because the decision of who leads affect everyone including his entire congregation.

The only instance when as a religious leader you should be reserved in political issues is when there is a tendency that through your influence, you can will your members to supporting a particular candidate which can in a way look like an abuse of office.

A clergyman that makes fake prophecy who the outcome of an election just to gain the acceptance of politician is never a good clygyman in the first place but normally, its never wrong that you express your constitution right during an election even if you're a pastor. You can even play an advisory role and give your honest opinion on what you think of the asperant without directly telling them who they should vote for.

Yes Religious leaders are not supposed to be telling us who to vote and claiming it is coming from God that they saw a revelation of who is going to be the next leader. They are using God's name to lie and that is not good as they are misleading the Christian followers but I would not agree that they should not be involved in politics. Politics is opened to everybody therefore the religious leaders can also vote for who they want to become our leaders but they should do it without telling others that God asked them to vote the politician that they are supporting. Politicians are usually the ones that go to meet the religious leaders because they know they have alot of people that listen to them therefore they try to buy them with money and it works most times.

Yes we all know say clergy men and woman are well respected people in the society. But that does not deny them of their fundamental right of voting. Religious leader are human so therefore they all have thier interest. Me i believe say when God's people rule, the people are happy . Because they will benefit directly from the governance . But the aspect wey be say Man of God  dey take lie say God tell them this or that about who go win and at the end of the day them no win. They really bring shame for church. But to me if them fit influence the political outcome of the society well positively e go good too.

If the religious leaders don't get involved in politics (Christian or Muslim) how then do we control who has access to power if the people acting as the nations moral compass are not even allowed to help decide who get to rule/lead us??
Expecting religious leaders to stay off politics is like saying good men should let evil thrive

I think the OP mean religious leaders who take a role in politics like coming out to represent a particular position or aspire for a particular political position, and if that is what he means, then I am supporting his opinion because politics is not a clean business, but it's a dirty game,so everyone who wants to venture into it must play dirty. Therefore, let he who has already decided to serve God be set apart from the things of the world, and show a good example to other believers.
But if he means voting, then I think everybody have right to vote into offices whom they like.

If we reduce the use of illegal money and muscle power in politics, most of the people involved in politics will be reduced. Politics is part of the dirty business. It is easier for religious people to convince the common people that they are God's representatives and should be elected. It is clearly a fraud that they cheat even God to make money. Know about them

Having the right to vote means that you will vote for the politicians you like. Religious people joining politics is tantamount to stealing votes by luring the poor and stealing their votes.

If you de reason am like that, no forget say the election process de work with the asperant when fit pull up the highest numbers of voters and when it comes to that, any medium you fit use get your voters de welcomed.

In one way or the other, using people's influence to convince voters to vote for a particular asperant de always follow for the election process and no be just about religious people. For most villages, once them don pay the community leaders, na normal thing say them go even ring bell inform everybody to vote for a particular asperant, wetin you go call that one? We de always de emotional when it comes to religious aspect but for other sectors of influence, we've seen countless instances where people vote for a particular candidate just because there boss or oga wants them to. The religious leaders have the right to support whoever they chooses to and if they have the means of speaking to there congregation concerning that, it's just there way of exercising there constitutional right.

The constitution doesn't say so, it's give everyone the power to be voted and vote for.  Be a Religious leaders or not, for the fact you meet up with the requirements for participation go ahead and contest for any position of your choice.

Politics is a game for all, regardless of your position, but if you're a Religious leader, you can participate in politics of your country but never Stand on your pulpit to tell your members your preferred candidate for an election.  That's totally wrong and manipulating.  A Religious leader can also pray for any leaders that wants to contest for a political office, but never force him on your members.  Because if your preferred choice doesn't win, your members will disrespect you or the party that won might remove your church building.

The reason many Nigerians has lost respect and honour for some men of God is because of their failed prophecy on a candidate to win in an election when it's turn out negatively against their prophecy.  Their members will never truth them again,  the church should be open for candidate to come and receive their blessings and not for the pastor preferred candidates.

The duty of religious leaders in politics is to orientat their members on how to vote and to encourage them to get their voters card.

Na him be the problem wey we dey face for the country, you say you be man of God and you come enter politics ,na him be sey you no be real man of God because you go see am sey na sey politics the way wen e don be now , e dey demonic, the politicians must sacrifice if not dem no go dey the sit again or continue more terms, as dem bring politics come inside church na him make all these bad things dey happen to the church now because those sacrifice dem dey do an human sacrifice and e come dey let the youths to dey involve seriously in human crimes like kidnapping, ritual killings, and all these blood dey cry dey follow dem and dem go bring that kind money come spend for church, and pastors go dey follow dem, small time Pastors come dey contest for election, because of the love of money, they start involving, to me ,I see those said men of God as fake, no matter what, the anointing don comot, because you can't serve two masters at the same time na him make this country no dey beta,if we really have faithful and prayerfull men of God, we for don grow pass as we day, may GOD help Nigeria.

Expecting religious leaders to stay off politics is like saying good men should let evil thrive
Leaders set good examples for their followers, they walk upright and developed integrity, always ready to be honest in all molecule positions they found themselves in. The governmental political system can be manipulative at times, this is why these leaders should train their minds to revoked any form of social vices and breaking of the laws, although it's never consider an easy run for anyone that's keeping his or her head up in politics, it's really a watchful ditty game.

The country is already in ruins and there's absolutely nothing wrong with any religious leader sharing his or her ambition to run for some political positions in government. The last time I checked, they're human beings and also exhibits the equal rights to vote and be voted for. Is this trend really imperative from the beginning? What does politics have to do with religious leaders? Anyone can demonstrate sort form of leadership hoping this conveyed the idea of followers to walk straight on a path.

The thing be say people don understand say religion na wetin dem fit take dey whine people for Africa and so politicians begin dey use am. Where you go see this kind thing na for Africa, I no even think say other third world continents self dey religious like Africa especially west Africa.

During election process, you go see politicians go run enter under one pastor or them go begin use bishops wey dem pay to take deceive people and them go refuse to set the electoral process up where it won't be rigged.

Religion na umbrella wey people like to run under and politicians too dey use am as advantage when them say the people rejoice when the righteous is on the throne but no be this kind worldly throne full of corruption.

You can't seat in Africa and conclude that politics is a dirty game because of your surrounding. Politics is only dirty in Africa and Nigeria because your leaders make it do or die affairs. They kill, rig , manipulate and abuse power to get into office some times their act scared people who really have intentions to run for political office to run away.

In Western World where the constitution and rule of law are respected and the people see politics as way of serving the society.  Politics is free and fair there. Everyone can play it.

But in Nigeria its a dirty game, one has to go dirty before you can win election, that's why Religious leaders must stay far from it.

Yes I totally agree with waiting you just talk because I know see the reason why some religious leaders will be taking part in politics morespecially supporting someone they knew that is not a good person and the worst part of it they will even tell there members who to vote for . sometimes you will see them supporting leaders that is looting the economy of the country, instead of them to tell and advise those leaders to desist from there evil and wicked ways but they won't all because of money.Reglious  leader shouldn't take part at all in politics morespecially in Nigeria.

Truly speaking, it's wrong because religion and politics are two different things which can't be merged   together, therefore Pastors prediction the future for the politicians are wrong all in the name of prophecy, you either face one ,
Look at the politicians, they are faced and focus on politics, why can't the clergy focus on their calling and do the work of God.
Since politicians has infiltrated religion, the country has being moving from one problem to another, Religion of the old use to be sacred and well respected to the highest, but because of the fat offering and tithe been given to the clergy men shows that some of them are no longer acting like clergymen, they always tell the politicians what they want to hear than telling them the truth, if only they have to really fast and pray like the men of old, Nigeria would have being a better country today, instead of praying for the nation but praying for their pockets and leading people astray. Clergy men are suppose to be the custodian of the holy book and word of God.
Politics is a dirty game which holy men are not suppose to be involved but pray for the conversion of the politicians.

This is the reason why religious leaders are being used as tools by political leaders. They house a large number of people that believe in them and trust in their words, so they easily give in even though they have a reason to not trust such politicians about their political ambition. I am also of the notion that religious leaders should stay clear of chosen candidates for their people to vote for, being it an imam or pastor; they should remain in their position of making good prayers for the nation and not handpicking candidates for the people that believe in their sermons to chose from. This has really affected us as a nation and it’s time that collective actions are taken to stop that for future generations not to fall of the same victims as we are now.

Only God knows who is serving him. Most of this so called religion leaders are just after money. Nowadays, religion is another thing entirely. Religion should be a different entity just as you have said but it isn't as this so politicians also invest in big churches so their leaders can campaign for them during election.

The question people supposed ask those religions pastor way like politics, say na waiting them they go find there, e get something way person way call themselves man of God should not do, as the thing be so in politics if them see any pastor way join, na one thing go they ring for there head say the pastor no be a genuine man of God because him no go fit they straight at all, though even if I see a pastor way they into politics omo I no they go your church again because you no go lie finish and they tell me waiting they happen, however I no sure say we get man of God way they into politics because I no sure say i done see.

I keep telling people that as we lost trust in politicians that's how we have lost trust in our religious leaders, they are all the same. They are only interested in what they will gain and not what they can offer. The church is now a campaign ground for politicians in Nigeria, pastors allow politicians to campaign in their churches without shame, they are even belong to political parties that's how bad our religious leaders are.

In some cases they force candidates on the church members, to vote during election, without allowing the members to vote who they want to rule dem. Because if they win they will use the church for Thanksgiving and the church will make money from it. The corruption in Nigeria today are being supported by some men of God.

Na true say the people wey dey call themselves clergy men no supposed put hand for politics or contest for any political position, but because everything today is done for Money,e don make almost every aspect of human life corrupt, including religion.Pastors wey we get now no dey reason the consequences involved again,as long as the matter go put food for their table, dem no really send, and in some cases sef,I no even dey blame them much because the country dey bad, nothing dey really come out from any angle,so if politics wan dey of help to clergy men, then I don't have a problem again.

Personally I think there’s nothing wrong if a religious leader decides to venture into politics, afterwards they are also humans and they have the right to vote and be voted for, and can also share their views on issues affecting the country and way forward in order to see the well being of the nation. But we all know that one thing killing our country is corruption within our political system. Our political system doesn't support the good people with clear intentions for the masses, they don’t support those who are saying the truth, if you say the truth as a credible religious leader, you have a lower chance of making it in our political system here, except you are willing to compromise your religious beliefs because politics being what it is in Nigeria have people who controls the system and if you don’t act according to their demands and instructions, you as a religious leader have a very slim chance of making your view count or even winning a political sit in the country. But as a true religious leader, you must always stand for the truth, but here politics do not accept the truth.
