I would say 21 BTC but we are talking about retirement which means life becomes a little boring especially if you aren't spending $$$ hoping for the little in your stash to grow while you seat back..for this the number just went up...maybe 100 Bitcoins would do wonders especially if I can have 20 BTC to spend and continue living while waiting for the rest of the coins to do the heavy lifting maybe grow x5 or x10 etc.

It depends on our lifestyle and where we live and how much is the most reasonable average annual need that we spend. An estimate of $70,000 per year is safe. We just need to divide it by the current BTC price and let's say it's only 100K and our retirement has started now, so, the estimate is around 0.7 BTC × 30 = 21 BTC with a duration of 30 years and this maybe estimation in category safe and comfortable if my assumption.
In my Country Bangladesh, every day with 5 members cost..

Per daily with cost average 20 dollars ...
30 days cost 30×20 = 600 dollars
Annual cost 600×12 =7200 dollars
If Allah gives me 40 years Lifetime then .
40×7200= 288000 dollar ~2.88 BTC

For me, I don't want much. I just need 2.88 Bitcoins to live my personal life well for an average of 40 years. With the ever-increasing prices of goods, it is not possible to live a luxurious life with 2.88 Bitcoins, but it is enough for an average life.

Depending on your age, the size of your family, inflation, the country you live in and, of course, without knowing what the btc will worth in 10, 20 or 30 years, how many btc do you estimate you'll need to secure your retirement without the help of the state, private insurance or your family?

Do you think this is an achievable goal?

I'd like to have 10, but I know that's impossible, even if I have no idea what the btc will be in 10 or 20 years.
The more the better. That's me.
Not being greedy, but if how much Bitcoin I want to prepare for all the things you mentioned above, then I want it to be a lot even though I never know what the price will be in the future. I still stick with the idea that 1 Bitcoin is 1 BTC.
My goal has always been to try hard to collect Bitcoin.

1 bitcoin is a lot of money in my country. You can confirm that from the comments of members of the Nigerian community on this thread: What can 1 Bitcoin buy in your country? Mind you, this thread was created in 2021 when bitcoin price was still ranging 60,000 -70,000 USD. Personally I could retire with 2 bitcoins in my wallet and live comfortably for the rest of life.

Actually in more developing and 3rd world countries, 1 BTC could really worth a lot. But I will say that in order to build at least generational wealth, it will take more than 1 Bitcoin in my opinion.

Two might be good, but still though, you need to account your lifestyle and your family as well or worst case scenario when we die we should have something for them as a inheritance and Bitcoin is a very good candidate for that and we have a lot of topics that pertains to it as a inheritance. So most like > 2 BTC might be enough for most of us here.

Currently, each bitcoin is worth $100k and owning 1 or 2 bitcoins will not be enough to make us rich or a huge asset that will help us live comfortably in old age. But if we can hold 1BTC until retirement and each bitcoin is worth $1 million or more, I think that would be enough for us to retire even if we live in a developed country.

Of course, owning more bitcoins is a good thing, but we should also be realistic that owning 1BTC is not an easy task these days, let alone owning more. Setting goals and achieving goals are two different things because there is a big gap between saying and doing, we should set goals that are suitable for our abilities and circumstances.
When it comes on being rich then there's no such thing about unlimited fund or Bitcoin on which we would really be always wanted to have that even more.  For me then i would consider myself on being rich when i do have 100 Bitcoins on which i could say that i can be able to make use of these funds to make up some offline business and making up some time deposits as well and having other option investment but if we do speak on just simply holding up your position then 100 pcs bitcoin on active spending or on a slow moderate kind of lifestyle on which if the price will really be that remaining or stay or wont go below 100k then this amount will really be making me live for next 40 years.

If you are living on a 3rd world country then you can be able to sustain up or you can be able to live with this amount if we do speak about fixed amount of Bitcoins with your hands but just like on what i have said that there's no such thing about fix amount because us human beings will really be wanting to have much as much as possible when it comes into your possession.People will always be that greedy and they are wanting as much as they can.

Depending on your age, the size of your family, inflation, the country you live in ...
I take those areas as the most important aspects to look into before acquiring bitcoin for retirement. In my country right now 1 BTC is N149,439,550 in the local currency and if you have that amount in your retirement, you also have to predict how long you are going to live in the Earth and how old at the time. In my country there are two things that can make one to retire. 1. Your years of service and 2. Your age. 60 years of age is due for retirement and you if has clock 60 years and according to the Biblical Principles we are to live 80+ years and that is 30 years is left for him. So I suggest 8 BTC for the retirement Bitcoin.

8 BTC is big one for many people and in many countries including first world nations. In countries like Nigeria, I really believe 8 bitcoins are too much for a retirement plan.

How many people on Earth have more than 1 bitcoin?

Not too many, and we can not identify this number but at least we know how many Bitcoin addresses that have 1+ bitcoin.
Bitcoin rich list https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-bitcoin-addresses.html

Check it with block explorer and its filter gives me 992,574 addresses.

I think there are a bunch of variables to consider, such as time window, what 1BTC will be worth down the line, etc.

You really can only plan in terms of approximate cash value now for your projections, and know BTC is only going to go up in the big picture.
We are making those assumptions; we can only speculate what the value of Bitcoin will be at the time we are ready for retirement, and we should also not forget to consider what the value of things will be because the price of things will always go high just as the value of Bitcoin will appreciate too, so why make the decision of how many Bitcoin you need for retirement? You should also consider the price of things in the future.

The question is difficult to answer as one dose not have any idea on how the economy is going to turn out in the next few years, in some cases more btc might be required to sort out some circumstances, or less might be required, depends on the situation at hand.

And of course everyone would like to have as much btc as they can lay their hands on for retirement trust me, if i am asked how much btc I will be needing for retirement i might not be very sure with the answer to give, but i was thought to aim higher and think  big, so i will like to have as  mush btc as i can for retirement.

So in a rational terms having like 4 BTC would be enough for retirement to me though it won't still be easy to get such amount, i can use from that same amount to earn more without going into any work , because retirement can't stop you from investing and stuff.

Beside BTC price can't be stagnant because is not an stable coin so the price will eventually  fluctuate but 20 years from now am sure Bitcoin will be in a nice price rate .

That's one thing, considering how things might change in the future, but there's also the obvious thing that people live all around the world, with very, very different costs of living, and also everyone has different lifestyles inside each different region...

So, it's really pretty much impossible to come up with a single number to answer this question.

It's almost irrelevant to say 1, 10, 100 BTC, etc, because in some cases it would be more than enough and in others not even close to match the lifestyle and cost of living.

600 dollars par mois pour une famille de 5 personnes ? Quel est le salaire moyen au Bengladesh par ailleurs ? C'est sûr que dans votre pays il faudra moins de bitcoins qu'aux USA ou en Europe ...

I found that : https://www.combien-coute.net/salaire-moyen/bangladesh/

Are you ok with those prices (in the link) ?

Getting 1 or 2 by the end of your work life, so to speak, would be great and enough, probably, to sustain your well-being and good days till the end.

But we need to work hard for such a target and never rush things out, do everything precisely and patiently.

That's a tough question! It's impossible to know what Bitcoin will be worth in the future, and everyone's retirement needs are different.  I think it's smart to be realistic about what's achievable.

I agree that 10 Bitcoin is probably out of reach for most people, but even a smaller amount could make a significant difference in retirement.  Maybe we could try to figure out a more realistic target based on our individual circumstances.

Do you have any thoughts on what a reasonable amount of Bitcoin might be for retirement?  Maybe we can brainstorm some strategies for saving and investing in Bitcoin to reach that goal.

You have absolutely accurately described all the factors that influence how many Bitcoins you need to plan on your wallet to rest easy and not think about problems. And what you suggest to have 10 is an absolutely good amount, and recently it would have been a million dollars, now it is about 800,000. However, I think that this is too big a number, especially for those who have their own home. We must also take into account that life in addition to this will provide us with opportunities to earn money.

Who knows, maybe with the help of these Bitcoins you will be able to earn yourself the same amount in the first year. After all, big opportunities give big money.

You cant say you dont know the amount of Bitcoin it would take for you to retire and live comfortably. There is no need for you to know what things will cost in the nearest future. The Bitcoin that will be giving to you now will be what will set you for retirement. You can use part to do business or you choose to hold some and diversify the rest into other assets. On a good day your Bitcoins should grow as time goes by unless you are one big spender.

We have different ways of doing things. You are not being stopped from making your own prediction and choosing your own amount of bitcoin, which you expect to be enough for you for retirement. If I don't know the exact amount, that will be me trying not to be too greedy and also not to settle for less at the same time, depending on when my retirement will be and how much things will be worth at that time. With the high rate of inflation, if it continues this way, it will get to a time when half a million dollars might not be able to settle someone for life with a decent investment.

I believe that when determining how much Bitcoin is enough for a secure old age, there is no point in looking decades ahead. It is enough to know how much money you need to spend per year of life at present. It is clear that someone can spend $1M per year, and someone will not spend $10k, because it all depends on the needs and standard of living.

Personally, I think that 10 BTC would be enough for me to live a good life.

Depends on what live we want to live by the end of it, that's for sure.

Some would want to not know a single no to their demands and keep on living, fulfilling their goals - some would just want peace and quiet life somewhere in the woods.. and they would still be satisfied.

If I have one BTC, I am very happy because I think one BTC is a lot. Now the price of Bitcoin has increased significantly compared to before, so now having one BTC means having a lot, although before the price of one Bitcoin was much lower, so at that time it was possible to own one Bitcoin with a little effort, but now it is not possible. Still, I am trying and trying to deposit at least one BTC in my wallet before retiring from Bitcoin investment. I know it is a big challenge for me, but still there is no problem in trying. I will keep trying, if I ever own one BTC, then I will definitely share that happy news on the forum.

Good job on your path to it. Don't you think you can create a thread on your road to your goal?
