I live in an environment where people perceive smokers as bad people. They see a smoker as someone who is bad, Someone who is not loyal, someone who is stubborn and have no love in him, someone who can easily hurt others, someone who is capable of committing crime in the society. And many more I can't remember. Maybe when you read this you can add more to the list. The question is why are Smokers viewed this way in the society?

It's very sad and regrettable that in this day and time that we are, people are still thinking such way, because I know of so many people out there that smokes, but they are one of the best people I have met.
Though in my society also, most of the bad guys or criminals are smokers, but it doesn't mean that anyone that smokes are bad guys, some individual are addicted to it, some just love smoking, some people smokes to find their joy back, so it's very bad to see all smoker as evil set's of people.
Being evil is a matter of choice or how dark the person's heart is, not because he smokes.

In my country smoking is not advisable, no one praises you when they see smoking and then we have hot climate here so you wouldn't say you are cold that's why you are smoking unlike in some European or American region where people smoke periodically because they are cold.

In Africa it's hot even during the rainy season it's not freezing the weather is just mild so when you smoke around here you are likely perceived to have joined a bad gang because why will you be smoking in a hot weather and most people that smoke appear  tattered they are majorly the ones in crime, criminals are likely to be smokers.

Even on the pack of  smokes it's written with a warning, smokers are liable to die young it damages liver and kidney. Although I didn't judge a smoker as a criminal at first sight it's just not advisable but generally when you smoke around here you are perceived as not presentable.

Down here, the underage  youths are rushing into smoking

First of all I always say that smoking is a choice and a lifestyle, it's the same way some love to take alcohol or drugs, smokers are simply doing what they like. But the society misjudge them for this act, they see them as people that have no future or hoodlums. As long as you are doing it moderately and it doesn't affect your cognitive reasoning then there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. The only down side to this is your health, no one can tell people how to live their life, they can clearly see that what's written on the pack of cigarettes "SMOKERS ARE LIABLE TO DIE YOUNG" so they know that they are signing up for.

I have come across similar thread where a user was lamenting how the society views smokers as bad people. Actually, in the geographical location where i come from, most people who are into smoking are always involved in one crime or the other and in a real sense, when majority is seen doing a particular thing whether with good intention or bad intention, they are to be classified in same way just like an adage that when a finger touches oil that it affects the rest of the fingers. And if you take a clearer view at it, it is literally the truth because as a smoker even if you are not a bad influence but you mingle with bad influencers since smoking can bring you all together, it means that by so doing, you are likely the join the bad influencers one day because they are the majority and in order for them not to see you as a rebel, you will also need to do what they do before they can trust you.

For me personally, i'm not against smoking or smokers but it should be moderated and also know when to smoke because the major reason why cigarretes was introduced was to make the immune system warm in a cold area or environment so why will someone who is in a hot atmosphere engage in smoking, isn't it to still add more to the hotness they are experiencing in the environment. You are free to smoke but know your limit, don't be addicted and don't be a nuisance.

Even cold tropics people are still advised to either quit or moderate how they smoke if they must smoke on the excuse of the cold weather conditions. I don't condemn smokers because smoking doesn't interpret ones characters or innate behaviours to exert harm towards another person.

Smokers are not bad people but for the love their family and friends has for them that's why they always kick against them smoking and portraying it as something bad because it's harmful to health. For those in hot geographical locations like Africa and other parts of the East I wonder why they have to smoke the way they do when the weather is already hot over here.

Well on the contrary, smokers are are the calmest and loving people you could ever meet. Most times the most sincere, especially when they just concluded their to dope session. Funny enough, the set of friends I enjoy their companies the most are smokers because they are less worried about unnecessary things and radiate pure joy to their environment.

Although I must be quick to point out that the reason the society effects so much hate on smokers are because of the impact of the those who abuse it. It's always good to do everything in moderation and smoking isn't left out. I don't have a problem with smoking as long as you act responsibly.

It all depends on what you are smoking. Smoking cigarettes is seen as normal life and nobody segregates them or sees them as bad people. But people who smoke marijuana, Indian hemp or other hard drugs experience some form of attack by some ignorant people.

It is assumed that these drugs can change the thinking patterns of these individuals and make them misbehaviour. There is also a belief that users of these drugs can commit crimes without remorse since they have lost touch with realities.

It is also believed that these individuals can do anything such as committing crimes to finance drug use. But all these beliefs are not correct because I know responsible people who use marijuana responsibly.

However, I am not a fan of chemical drugs produced in laboratories. They are expensive, addictive and more harmful to health.

First of all, the question is why do people smoke? Different people have different reasons why they choose to smoke as well as what they choose to smoke some are into cigarettes, some cannabis and some other things I can’t start to mention. Again, there are societies that view people who smoke cigarettes as normal but then condemn people who smoke cannabis. Meanwhile it’s just literally almost the same thing. Sometimes, you can’t really blame those who condemn smokers or see them as bad people, it could also be due to their previous experiences. I know someone who is into cannabis, and whenever he takes it, it’s as if he’s no longer completely himself, as he could end up doing something that he may eventually not remember doing when the effects of the cannabis has subsided. There are people who can’t really control themselves when they are under the influence of these substances, and in that state, some people could end up doing something irrational. This could also contribute to why some people feel skeptical about people who smoke.

People see smokers same way they see gamblers. They are both stubborn and they act without considering the long term effect of their smoking or gambling habits on their general wellbeing. Some people who eventually get addicted to smoking often look unkept and make some impulsive decisions which often doesn't end well for. Not all smokers are bad, but where I come from, mothers aren't proud seeing their children smoke, they eventually get used to the fact that their children smoke as they grow older.

Here where I live nobody gives a f*ck whethere you smoke or not. Maybe 20-30 years ago some people had negative opinion about women who smoke, but now nobody cares about it.

I don't think there is relation between climate and smoking. It's not that people who live in cold climate smoke to get warm.

That is why a way of life will never be on the same direction with every other countries because what could be normal may not be normal in another tribe and is funny that when we see other countries or tribe how they do things people see them as unexposed people because of their belief and traditional activities but the truth is that they are not funny because that's how they were raised and the things they are doing was already there before they came on a existence so they would have the same belief, so actually that's how those that see cigarettes that way was made to belief that gang stars and bad people are the ones who do that.

Let me reference this to gambling because some people have almost the same behaviour and define them with those who smoke the same way. One of the reasons why some people react the way they do over things is because of the people who are around them and the type of behaviour they have doing that thing, either smoking or gambling.

If they stay close to those who are not responsible because of their gambling behaviour, they will also treat every other gambler to either not be responsible or on their way heading there; the majority of the bad behaviour guys who are seen around the community are always found smoking, which could also leave the negative view on all other smokers. People don't run their own personal research before they conclude on things; they just decide based on what others say or what they observe from a few.

People that smokes in movies are tough people, gangsters, criminals and detectives, these characters makes people to see real life smokers as hardened people. But these is a misconception because I know smokers that are cool headed, some of them smokes to relieve stress. The category of smokers that are really feared are the ones that smokes indian hemp and other substances that makes people to become very high, they can behave irrationally at anytime. In my country, smoking in a public places is prohibited because it is dangerous to health and it has put a stigma on smoking.

I’m not really sure how smoking is perceived. It doesn’t bother me if people smoke but I’d rather it wasn’t done in my close, personal space. I don’t smoke, I occasionally vape when I’m drunk, on a night out but that’s like less than 10 times a year. I think the younger generation are moving away from smoking cigarettes to using vapes. Our government is taking measures to discourage smoking too.

It is all because of religious and culture, so whenever they sees someone smoking they feels the person is sinfully going against their beliefs which they believe it is a curse or taboos to do so.

Their legionary cultures forbids it so they becomes unnecessarily sentimental to anyone haven to smoke like humans are not supposed to smoke at all in the first place and their emphasis on smokers are feel like smoking is one worse commitment someone can ever do in the society.

Quite annoying of this saboteur displays because they wish if they have the regulatory power to get smoking to an end they wou do it and implement it into laws which I know some religions has already implemented it including the intake of alcohol.

It so because of the happenings in the society, what has been displayed by people who have been smoking in the past. The attitudes portrayed by most smokers has made it seem like all smoker's are like that. And judging  from all in general it is absolutely correct.

The substances inside what they smoke or inhale are mostly hard drugs and and always have an after effects on them, so smokers tend to misbehave as their hormones are stimulated by these substances. It is these behaviors that make people refer to them in such manner.

but still smoking some hard substance has a way of affecting the users sense of reasoning so that he goes to commit what he would never do without the influence of the substance he has taken. if you can smoke and act in a responsible manner, no one will percieve that you are a bad person that is capable of an act of harm, it is because the majority of smoker act in a frequency that is above normal that makes it a norm that smokers are looked at as bad individual.

Smokers generally have attitude that usually appear selfish, nihilistic or less concerning about others and in alot of cases their health conditions. It's like a people under the influence of alcohol. They behave in similar unpleasant manner that people associate with drunkenness.

This is more noticeable in cigarette smokers. I think people wouldn't care much that they smoke something if they are more caring, loving, gentle, civil, humble, successful, healthier etc during/after smoking.
