Over the years US has been the one funding a major part of the world Health organization (WHO). These funds are majorly distributed to African countries for the control of major disease and pandemic outbreaks, the treatment of deadly disease/illnesses as well as major Vaccines given to children during immunization in African countries such as polio vaccine, malaria vaccines, OPV, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, measles vaccine etc. are all funded by US through the WHO

The Initial agreement from history was for the US to help fund theses health care systems until the African Countries are able to get enough funds and fund their own health care system in their individual country. But till now these African countries are yet to be able to fund them selves and are still depending on the US aid.
There has been news for a while that the US government will soon withdraw their support.

Will African countries look for other support or sponsors for this very Vital thing or are they willing and capable to fund health care systems that has been funded free for them over the years.

Imagine US withdraws their support and the government of these countries fails to provide these vaccines and drugs for their citizens,
Can the citizens afford the actual prices of these drugs?
Will the mortality rate not increase?
What will be the health care systems of citizens?

WHO is really helping African countries and the removal of the US hands from the organization is very big blow to the citizens of the continent and not to the government. What Trump would have done was to stop the politicians from Africa to use the hospital over there and that would also make them to develop theirs. Despite that he is doing it because of the BRIC movement in the world and South Africa and Nigeria are in the bloc.

For some of these support and grants that go to Africa from world health organization (WHO), is not only the American government that do give support, there are other organizations like Bill Gates foundation and the rest of other organizations that do give grands and support to African nation's, yes of course the withdrawal of American government on founding the world health organization will greatly affect the overall support base, but then it only gives room for either the African Nations to seek support from other countries of the world or it can also serve as a drive for them to be self-sufficient to help their healthcare system, because nobody will give you a helping hand forever, so this is more like a wake up call to African Nations.

Trump likes to court controversy and his tactic has always been to bully people, which is exactly what he is doing while President. It's showing up as a reoccurring theme that he will say an extreme thing, like massive tariffs are going to be imposed on friendly neighbors, try to extract some sort of concession and then back down. It *might* work when you're just representing your personal business, but just like at the geopolitical table it is more likely to annoy the hell out of everyone and show how much of a poor trading partner you are. He is singlehandedly undermining decades of careful work that positioned America as a firm, but reasonably fair country. His strategy is projecting the USA as floppy and unfair partner which will do much greater self harm in future.

The agreement seems like it was never going to end because of the corruption of most African leaders, that regardless of the resources, their country is still impoverished because they will rather spend public funds on personal needs than public funds on things like improving their healthcare and preparing for times like this.

Maybe this will be a wake-up call to them.

I support the US to withdraw their support. Because most of these African countries are getting some these stuffs free, they have failed to build and fund their own health care system and the citizens are not requesting for accountability from their leaders. The US cannot keep funding these things forever, look they have their own shit to take care of. African leaders have become so corrupt that they don't care about building infrastructures that will aid their citizens. If the US don't withdraw their support, these African countries won't rise to the occasion. Now if the cost of these drugs that were previously funded by the US, goes up and it becomes difficult for the people to buy, I think their leaders will do something about it. If they don't whatever becomes the reality, let them face it alone. The US cannot continue to be spoonfeeding African countries forever.

id question the emboldened part... lets take ethiopia for instance
if you look at their capital city you will see skyscapers and city suburbia..

its not the mud hut slum presented by media in the 20th century, demanding help and charity donations from the west.

however although Ethiopia can fund its own way, they have decided to put their public money elsewhere(into private hands) due to getting a unrestricted free handout. so now with these handouts at risk. ethiopia now have to put their money where it should go. and not into private pockets

also by african citizens getting free rice from aid services, there is no incentive for african farmers to grow rice and sell it to its citizens. so aid has become a hindrance of africa self serving its own population

we seen it also in haiti after the natural disasters. instead of haiti businesses getting back up and running to create and sell clothing, food, and even solar panels.. by getting aid killed off haiti business

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.

The only way he can stop the politicians is by denying them visa tagged medical trip to the US and if he takes such decisions, the politicians will chose other countries for their medical treatment.

Defunding the UN, WHO and other organizations by the US should not be seen as a target on Africa because these bodies does not serve only Africa but the entire world including the middle east. Rather than crying over it, Africans should put their houses in order and chat a new course for their health care sector. This actions might even have its positive side which we will all find out in the coming months.

I can't really recall the particular place again but I have seen an article that Trump said, Africans leaders sho go abuild their health centers to the standard way for them to use. America fought for their independent and come together to build the Nation to this standard so Africa can do the same. In that article he spoke many things. And I support Trump for everything he says. African leaders are so corrupt that they can't even produce bicycle or Needle. The National Assemblies in the continent are more corrupt than the presidents.
I don't know if you understand politics. In political economy, those who control the economy also control the State and if you look well, US dollar is generally used by all countries and for that the president of US has the power to say something in a particular country and the World Bank and IMF are also control by US if I am not mistaken.
He also announced to stopped supporting UN and WHO. And that is not the fault of Trump but the bad leadership in Africa. By now we would have gotten everything to the standard level to use and not depending on the World Aid.

There has been news for a while that the US government will soon withdraw their support.

Africa is over grown babies and they have been fed enough, so they should provide for themselves because the US we are even talking about also has there problems to proffered solution for, Africa is a  big continent and they have a lot of money, so they can actually work together in making sure there would be no difference from when the US was supporting them and when they would be doing it themselves. Actually the healthcare system will not be reduced because funding is just the case here, so if Africa is able to fund it then everything becomes normal but if nothing is done then only this alone will serve as a pandemic to all the Africans because there would not be much medical supplies and the little they would have will not be affordable by a common man.

The U.S. has indeed funded and paid for many programs for Africa for many decades.
This applies not only to medicine. In response, the U.S. received reproaches, accusations, hostility, a lot of negativity, African countries began to cooperate with pariah countries and countries openly opposing the U.S..... Now African countries are increasingly becoming colonies and hostages of “friendship” with China. Question - why should the US finance African countries if there is not the slightest benefit for the US ? Let China finance them now...
It sounds not very pleasant of course, but it is the truth and reality. And I am sure that very soon African countries that chose under the guise of “Chinese friendship”, the quiet colonization of their countries by China, will realize who is a real friend and who is an enemy who does not care about the health of the population of African countries, their education and development..... But the price of realization will be high.

Sometimes I think perhaps Trump could have some mentality that understands what is going on in Africa, that the leadership of Africa is corrupt and never concern itself with public good but just family based oriented government system.

Although, there is no smoke without fire. For US to sponsor the major health bills and other crucial services to Africa, they must have some benefit too and one of them is the trade alliance and affiliation that most African countries have with them. This also boost the American economy and also strength the dollar.

However, it a good thing that they are withdrawing some of those aids because most of them in government hijack those support and convert them into their personal outreach program where they make the public believe they are the one solely giving such aid to the locals. Sometimes you get to hear an individual is gifting people from his support program but not knowing it is a world bank project backed by UN and other international collaborators. It is appalling with the situation.

Part of the executive other too is to push out illegal migrants and child birth citizen right, that also affects African population more. So African government need to wake to their leadership responsibility and accountability. Trump is out for the clean up and he is not leaving any stone unturned.

Vanity upon Vanity, that's what it is. If you know.

They'd probably look for other supports. Highly doubt it'd help though since the WHO was only helping because they're, well, the WHO. And they could afford to help due to the US supporting them. Probably a wake up call to them but honestly even if it was, it'd probably just lessen the amount the ones at the top get themselves. The ones at the bottom would still suffer, maybe even more really but at this point, what's the difference?

I mean Trumps slogan is America first. Even if he did knew, highly doubt he'd give a crap at least in the foreseeable future.

This action of US has two implications in the African countries. It will make the African governments to increase prices health facilities plus treatment and drugs. And lastly it will make to to work on their health sectors in the continent. I think US also stop funding UN too, I saw a flash news on social media concerning that.

Exactly on point. It is the poor citizens of the countries that will suffer for this greatly. Maybe they would have looked for a way to ensure these funds are properly supervised by special agencies to ensure these  funds are properly used to get to the citizens that are supposed to be of benefits and continue with the program. Also stopping politicians from using the US hospitals and enforcing them to use their local hospitals.
Is it so unfortunate how the poor masses will suffer from this and pay huge amount of money in paying for medical bills.

This will be a wake up call to African leaders but I don't know if they will still learn from this because all their mind and focus is to embezzle the public funds except that nothing they can do. US has been funding many organizations for Africans survival and every government that came pity the continent and continue the support but Trump because of his economic policies decided to withdraw from supporting the organization.

WHO was really a helping hand in Africa but I believed it was not only to the Africans but also to those foreign embassies with their ambassadors.

The WHO have lost its biggest donor and within a few months the negative effect will become visible in the heath sector of mainly developing nations. In my country, WHO sponsors lots of health programs that offer free or subsidized treatment for diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and others. To curb overpopulation they offer free birth control procedures.

I just hope Trump will reconsider his stance because many poor nations will suffer. If there is an outbreak of any global pandemic, I wonder how it can be handled without funds for the US.

The WHO is a shadow if its former mission.
That happens with many organizations which establish certain power, they loose track.

How did they loose track? The WHO spends more money in administration than in treating. 50 years ago they were good. Now they are not.

Yes, I've heard this news, and this happened just moments after Trump was inaugurated as US president. What I know is that Trump made this decision because he was disappointed with the WHO, which he considered failing to tackle the Covid pandemic. This withdrawal of support will probably have an impact on world health management because the US is the largest donor to WHO (hopefully not). Will African countries get other donors? maybe, but it won't be as big as the US.

....

Imagine US withdraws their support and the government of these countries fails to provide these vaccines and drugs for their citizens,
Can the citizens afford the actual prices of these drugs?
Will the mortality rate not increase?
What will be the health care systems of citizens?

what the american government is doing is like 'between a rock and a hard place', if they do not provide aid, then there will be many african citizens affected, but if they continue to persist in providing aid, then their budget efficiency will not be achieved. so this is like a dilemma for the american government.

but i think that the american government and WHO have helped countries in the african region quite a lot, but until now these countries have not been able to finance their own health systems, they are like lulled by the aid given. they are like dependent on this aid and it hinders their development.

so it is only right that african countries help themselves and build what they have to build, and improve themselves to reduce corruption and rebellion. but on the other hand the american government should not suddenly withdraw from this aid, they can reduce the amount of their aid if they feel that their aid is excessive.

The Initial agreement from history was for the US to help fund theses health care systems until the African Countries are able to get enough funds and fund their own health care system in their individual country. But till now these African countries are yet to be able to fund them selves and are still depending on the US aid.
The agreement seems like it was never going to end because of the corruption of most African leaders, that regardless of the resources, their country is still impoverished because they will rather spend public funds on personal needs than public funds on things like improving their healthcare and preparing for times like this.

Maybe this will be a wake-up call to them.

Exactly the reply I was looking forward to reading.
Of course, I can agree with others who feel that trump's action might affect so many, but looking at how most of these African countries has developed today, isn't it high time to start leaving their responsibilities to them. In terms of financing health care, many African countries has failed despite having what it takes to do so. These countries do generate good revenue, but don't allocate reasonable amount to health care. Besides, most of African government threat themselves overseas, so understanding the importance of these health improvement doesn't concerns them much.

This will only be a wake-up call to those countries whose leaders choose to give listening ears and not deaf ears, because it will definitely and certainly affect some of the citizens (especially those who can't afford or get access to good health services).
