A scammer pmed me on telegram claiming that his client likes my username and would want to purchase it and is offering me 1800 TON for my username. I knowing fully well their intentions decided to play along to see to the end of it all, so I told the scammer that my username was worth more than what he was offering and I told him 10btc if he was not willing to deal he should get lost then the scammer told me it is too much that he would talk with his client and get back to me. It was not up to 3 minutes, the scammer sent me a link to a telegram bot and said I should click it and agree to the terms of our agreement which I asked what he meant by that. He insisted I click the bot and it was clear his intentions then I called him a scammer and began screenshotting his profile before I could begin to screenshot our conversation, he immediately deleted our conversation. What baffled me was that while that was going on, another scammer pmed me with the same format just as the first scammer did, and since they already knew I got wind of their tactics the second did not continue again and refused to reply to me till this moment. I am uploading a screenshot of the scammer's telegram profile so that members can see it and be careful not to fall victim if they encounter this scammer in the name of a telegram username purchase. Here are the profiles of the scammers; This is the profile to the first scammer Screenshot conversation with the second scammer. Newbies should take caution and if these telegram users pm them, they should immediately report and block them and should not click any link sent to them claiming that it is agreement bot authorization or whatever name the scammer calls it, do not click any link. If this is not the right board for this topic, moderators can move it to the appropriate board.

What are they even doing with someone's Telegram username in the first place, if I may ask, unless it's just a means to attract someone to give them access to their Telegram and they will take the Telegram entirely and not just some username buy, or could it be another scam where the buyer convinces the seller of being real just to end up scamming them of money that they don't plan for by either sending them a phishing link or any malware that can steal crypto from their victims?
In between, you should also check the group or channel you recently joined, as you might have joined a group filled with scammers that made them start writing to you in the same format like that.

I think the reason they want to get a username is to perpetrate their illegal activities with one's user name as it is now that Telegram is beginning to implement KYC and if that is done, all phone numbers registered with Telegram can be easily tracked to get the owners of the account. Another thing is that they look for every means to get access to people's information as the first scammer did, he sent a telegram bot link insisting I click to agree with the terms and conditions which I do not even give consent to if one clicks that link, the possibility of account phishing is high which would put one's device at risk giving access to scammers or hackers to steal information which would be used to undo their victim. I think they disabled that aspect from their profile settings because that was the first thing I checked and could not see any group in common or maybe they used a different account to chat so that their victim do not expose their real account they use in infiltrating telegram chat platforms looking for who to scam.

HOw is telegram enforcing any KYC? They have some crypto i'm unaware of? I don't get it. I've used telegram: @owlcatz for many years and have had no issues. it's all about your security settings basically. I've been accused in the past of some bullshit, but nothing I ever did, and not sure how anyone would impersonate me as I don't share my phone number or much info for that matter.

There was a time last year were I was updating my telegram or so but It was related to me doing something that had to do with my telegram wallet if I could recall and I was requested to input my name DOB and some sensitive information about my identity. This could be a kyc because what was demanded was a bit sensitive about me revealing my identity although not facial but with details that I think can be used to track account holders if anything goes wrong.

Telegram-linked services may actually require KYC, not just Telegram itself, and all personal information, such as phone number or date of birth on Telegram, can already be hidden from the public on Telegram. I see that if you own a unique username on Telegram consisting of 4 or 5 letters, it can be sold at good prices on the fragment platform, which is a market linked to the Telegram platform and requires KYC. This may be what attracted scammers to send you fraudulent bot links. You should know that even if you change or sell your username, any sensitive information on your account, such as your phone number, will be with you and not with the new owner of the username. In any case, you can activate 2FA for your account and you should not link your Telegram account to any bots or platforms and you will be safe.

Yes those information can be hidden from the public as the set function is there on personal profile to set up by the account holder but however those information are still sensitive and as such would be categorised as KYC and telegram already have it in their database. I see my username attracted them to my DM to start bidding for it but they are Scammers and can not afford to meet up with my demand. Funny enough, after I told the first that pmed me that he is a scammer after sending me the bot link and insisting I click it, he deleted our chat and blocked me. My telegram 2fa security feature is already activated and I would never make such mistake of linking my account to any bot for such deal. I can not make such a silly mistake allowing Scammers and hackers get their way into my device.

This is not the first time I heard of this. They are also offering their own escrow which to one victim says they are going to send you fake USDT on telegram wallet and if you won't try trading it first on the exchange before handing over the username, you will lose your username or the chance to make money out of it.
Next time just try to let them bid for you username on fragment.com This is the marketplace for the telegram usernames. See if they are really that serious in buying your account.

At first, no one should ever accept an escrow from anyone who claims to be a buyer on the telegram platform because they are all of the same syndicate and they make you feel they are real and they organize and arrange everything so that you do not think they are fake but however, if any of such happens, you should be quick to tell them that you will provide the escrow because you do not trust them as you do not know them and have not done anything with them so what is the possibility that they would not do away with your money putting you at loss. I just discovered that fragment.com as you have suggested, thanks to your information. I think anyone who pms me again for the purchase of my telegram name would be directed to that website to do their bidding if they are for real and I am not ready to sell my telegram name for no reason.

That's so funny. I mean even without knowing what they are trying to do, if someone offers me almost 7000$ for a fking username I 100000% already know this is some shady business aka scam attempt. Wonder if people actually fall for nonsense like this these days. Normally nobody should but since these scammers are still at it I suppose this "business" must somehow work for whatever reason.

Ahh here we go again, Telegram & scammers. It's a nonstop comedy tragedy drama. Man, that was actually hilarious! Asking for 10 BTC for a mere username?, big Lol. The scammer should have realized that you were trolling with him. Stupid braindead scammers... I'm used to getting unsolicited PMs from strangers on telegram. That's why I use a backup account where all my important verified contacts are. One thing I realized is that if you keep your account fresh and do not join any groups, you won't get a single DM from anyone. As for my 1st account, it's already filled with crypto related groups, so either I need to delete it (which I don't want to) or ignore/delete/block DM's from strangers. That's the only solution so far. There was a time last year were I was updating my telegram or so but It was related to me doing something that had to do with my telegram wallet if I could recall and I was requested to input my name DOB and some sensitive information about my identity. KYC? Not the app itself but the 3rd party services we use through Telegram, right? I wonder why they would need that! Btw, I do use telegram's 3rd party services but never was asked to give any kind of sensitive information. This is the first time I am hearing something like this. It's actually quite funny, there was this one time a scammer tried to lure me into a preplanned honey pot scam attempt by giving me his own seed phrase, private keys, login info and everything. Lol…

Doesn't a premium account in Telegram prohibit writing private messages to unknown users? I don't know for sure, since I get by with a regular account that no one touches; I don't waste time on strangers, and they immediately go into ignore, but for those who conduct some kind of business activity, buying a premium account would be a good way out from annoying clients. The subscription price there doesn't seem too high to take advantage of the opportunity to not communicate with idiots.
