Yes (as in he was right in doing so). And I have seen foreign language children's books in Africa sponsored by USAID. I even have one in my bookshelf somewhere. But I can't find it.

Donald Trump, is clear on his stance on focusing on America, and Americans so I'm not in surprised that he has ended USAID. Dependant on America, by other countries is much and it's probably weighing down on the country. Moreover it's making these countries that are receiving the aid not to be proactive and think outside the box to become more creative and stop depending so much on external supports. How are we even sure that these monies goes directly to what they're mapped out for, I wouldn't be surprised if the US aid will be channeling into private pockets by corrupt government officials. I hope that this will make aid receiving countries to become more productive and work towards being self sufficient as independent countries.

The keywords here is "to keep the USA influence around the world with soft power".

Ordinary US citizens will see the aid as non beneficial but to US government, it's very necessary to keep their influence on vulnerable countries and their citizens.

Apart from the influence, I don't see much benefit even to the receiving countries and it's just like a total waste of resources. Most of the project carried out by this aids are either substandard, abandoned or not necessary in the beneficiary areas. I blame the African countries and their government thou for their utmost corruption practices that prevents them from doing to their citizens what USAID is doing.

Maybe this is the right time for them to change the narrative.

The closing down of this organization is a wake-up call to most countries that depend on the US instead of seeking means to solve their problems. USAID has supported many projects in my country. But many of them have been handled by corrupt government officials who will end up misappropriating some of the funds or materials embarked for some projects.

The government of my country recently allocated some funds for HIV drugs because the US has stopped financing them. If Trump has said his government is for Americans, other countries should brace up for the hard time ahead.

If we consider much of that money was being sent to small and under-developed nations in both Africa and Central America, it would seems to me this only will prompt people to try to cross illegally into the United States or Europe in the future, as dependence of those countries of the United States is pretty much obvious...
Trump wants people of central America and south America to stay in their home countries, and at the same time he is cutting funding which is supposed to be used to help to improve quality of life in those underdeveloped countries.
It is a little contradiction, but still in the mind of the average MAGA follower it makes complete sense and is aligned with American interests.

If he was smart and wanted to continue to give an image of a powerful and caring United States, he would have filtered out those programs which aligned with the political left and allow those which had something to do with medicine and good to keep going. This just makes the country and the Republican party to look selfish and short-sighted in the eye of the rest of the international community .

I would agree with you, but in the other direction. Trump may not understand the good he is doing for other nation by making them responsible for themselves, and by weakening the Deep State that is sucking the money right out from under them.

 From the video I watched, Trump was cutting the USAID because he was focused on the amount of money that was given to this organization, little was being done by them.  he called  a large amount of money that was deployed for combating COVID, yet the COVID vaccine didn't reach a lot of people.

So, from what I picked up from the video, it's more of money laundering by the organization, yet no much impact has been felt. So, he's cutting it off, and other nations too should buckle up in supporting their citizens with health aids and other aids.

I believe that with time, everything will clear whether it's for good or bad. I mean, people pull out of organizations and join back in; people dissolve organizations, and they reinstate it back so time will tell.

An independent organization of the United States through which they provide financial assistance for the development of the least developed and developing countries of the world. Trump has given an excuse that this is a waste of money and has stopped funding. As a result, poor countries will be deprived of food supplies, the poor will live in a worse life and many people may die due to lack of food, which is an inhuman decision.
