I can't say whether Bitcoin is immortal or not, but it is certain that the demand for Bitcoin will increase in the future and people will start competing to buy Bitcoin. Since there is no rival coin close to Bitcoin, Bitcoin will remain an immortal coin as long as it remains the king coin. If in the future a coin more popular than Bitcoin comes to the market and Bitcoin's popularity decreases, then perhaps the value of Bitcoin will decrease, but this idea is purely personal.

Yes, pretty much that.

Basically more and more people will want to get Bitcoin.

It's basically a new form of savings. You can just save in Bitcoin instead of cash and you will probably have more money in say ten years.

More people, more demand for it, more price for it.

And it is because Bitcoin is a useful thing. You can pay orbreceive payment, anywhere, at any time.

If the internet shuts down, the losses would be too much to handle overall.
And after all - BTC is not on the radar for such a "shutdown", in my opinion.

The Entire finance system depends on Internet connectivity today. If a country decides to shut down its internet, their banking system will be destroyed. The ATMs won't work anymore, the banks won't be able to enter any transactions and they won't be able to give money to people. People won't be able to pay bills, and many more important things will be impossible to do.

Internation communication will be destroyed, and people will have to suffer. There is no way one country can afford this. We were in seven days internet blackout in our country, and we know how it was. No one wants to face this just to shut down Bitcoin.

In terms of demand, Bitcoin is the king, and it's a throne that it has been sitting on for a very long time and will retain that throne as there is no rival to compete with it at that level, but when they talk about the immortality of Bitcoin, it's on the line of if it could be shut down by the government or if the government can kill its existence, which is something they have tried in the past, and currently we might have passed that stage where we should be worried about a government attack on it aside from setting up policies that will make them benefit from it.

I will also answer the question from the hypothetical and probability point of view. If government shut down Bitcoin then it will affect other parts of it because bitcoin being the growing currency daily or weekly or monthly has the potential for the whole. And if one part is affected then the other will be useless. Once it is control by the government they will make sure that every user of bitcoin pay dearly for it. I could still remember the first time when I joined this forum and my transaction from my pay at that time. When Binance was still active in my country. I was not paying p2p fees as of then but when the new government came in and with it new economic policies, all the exchange in the country right now paying money in p2p transaction/trading. Even the GitHub is untouched, it will affect the whole system. Let's keep the way it is as it is immortal right now.

If we look at the history of bitcoin from the past, almost every year there is negative news about bitcoin, they want bitcoin to be destroyed or die. But look now bitcoin never dies, instead its price is increasing and maybe some people who were previously not interested in bitcoin are now investing in bitcoin. If we talk about Eternal we will not know, because in my opinion nothing is eternal in this world. but what is certain is that bitcoin with a limited amount, increasingly rapid growth and several countries are already interested in adopting bitcoin. I am very sure that bitcoin is not only eternal without bitcoin it will be a valuable asset in the future.

In the future everyone will definitely want to have Bitcoin. So for those of us who are still young, or who already have more money, we must have Bitcoin. Why? Because we still have a long time to achieve financial freedom, in the next 10 years the price to get Bitcoin will definitely be more expensive. So Bitcoin plus time equals Wealth.

Yes the demand is getting higher as long as the bitcoin is showing us its true potential as a global asset. I can say that bitcoin’s era can be immortalized but of course the technology itself is not permanent, the world is evolving and there’s something will come that will be the heart of that technology and will immortalized in the future. But right now it’s safe to say that there’s a lot can happen but bitcoin has proben us it’s worth and how great it is.

It already had show it's full potential, and that's why it's keep growing like every year as there are a lot of un-bank or even investors who are wealthy trying to hedge it to Bitcoin and making it store of value and maybe we can say that it is immortal although the government might not agree with it as they think that they can control it or stop their population by owning Bitcoin.

And then there is also the internet which is a major concern, or maybe quantum computing that his also a threat as we have been discussing that it can break Bitcoin's algorithm. So there are some factors that we can think of, but so far though, it's becoming more famous and demand increasing and those who are joining doesn't care about those issues.

That is the truth, Bitcoin will be affected but it's just going to be a partial effect, and not something that can totally destroy Bitcoin and wipe it off from existing again. Part of me still strongly believes that if anything happen to Bitcoin that it is no longer existing, the entire crypto space might not be able to survive for a long time, that's because Bitcoin builds a lot of faith in some people which is why they are still investing into cryptocurremcy.

The government also wants to take part in the development of digital finance today, one of which is the determination of taxes from exchanges operating in its jurisdiction. It's natural and that's not a problem. The problem is if all holders sell all their BTC without thinking twice, causing a huge panic, a total price drop so that all confidence in the performance of BTC which is considered the most resilient is lost. If the government tries to close it down, that's a very small problem.

I doubt that the government wants to take part in the development of digital finance, their function is completely different, it is control and management. So far they cannot control bitcoin, and because of this they are very cautious about it, even Trump who promised to create a bitcoin reserve cannot do this due to the lack of a corresponding law or laws. So governments can only try to use it for their own benefit, but not control it in any way.

So governments can only try to use it for their own benefit, but not control it in any way.
They want to do it because digitalization is so helpful for their control and regulation. That explains demand of governments to develop, test and launch their CBDCs that can help them to trace citizen financial activities better and more easily with less missing information.

They just dislike decentralized digital currrencies that they are unable to shut down, or at least control like Bitcoin. You can see that they are exaggerating their pressure and control on altcoins and stable coins because those projects, companies and blockchains are centralized. Only Bitcoin project is decentralized from development to its network, so that it's a biggest challenger against control of governments.

If the internet shuts down, the losses would be too much to handle overall.
And after all - BTC is not on the radar for such a "shutdown", in my opinion.

I agree that a complete internet shutdown would cause massive disruption globally, far beyond Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. However, it's worth noting that Bitcoin is designed to be resilient even in such scenarios. Technologies like mesh networks, satellite nodes (like Blockstream), and even offline transactions could help keep Bitcoin operational on a basic level. While it's unlikely the entire internet would shut down, contingency measures for Bitcoin show the network's adaptability in extreme situations. Smiley

Bitcoin became popular mainly because of the internet and all the technological advancements online, so if the internet were to be shut down, it's like we would be going back to the old days and everything that was introduced on the internet would no longer be widely used. It is possible to transact without the internet, but if we're talking about adoption, the result wouldn't be good.

So, everything that we are enjoying online now relies on the internet; without it, they will slowly die.

Just the other day I read the news that in the near future Bitcoin will become so expensive that ordinary people with a fairly modest income and earnings will not be able to buy it. Is this true? Well, I don’t know. As for me, this is too loud a statement. Will no one be able to afford to buy a couple of hundred satoshi? Such a scenario will become a reality when the coin actually reaches a price of a couple of tens of millions of dollars. How soon will this happen? Only questions and nothing more.

At this point, I'd say Bitcoin is immortal. Wouldn't you agree? If not, may I ask why?

Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley

Bitcoin is a piece of code, it has no life essence and can kickstart anytime someone wants to boost it.  Even if it stopped for some time as long as there is someone or some group that is willing to support the network, Bitcoin will never cease to exist.  It can be hard for the government to totally shutdown the Bitcoin network but as the early reply said, Bitcoin is not a stand-alone application to run, it still needs a device, connection, and power to move the network in solving blocks.  Unless all is fully automated Bitcoin's existence is tied to human activity.

So instead of saying Bitcoin is immortal, I believe it is more appropriate to say that Bitcoin is quasi-immortal.

It's just the fact that they would be able to buy even less of it with the money they've got on hands.
News usually portray it in this light, however - who, even now, can buy even 1 BTC?
The numbers and prices would change, but the main thing that would change is value and adoption of BTC.

How can you call Bitcoin immortal when you just need to turn off the electricity. How will it exist then? This is a rhetorical question. There are still many places on the planet where there is no electricity. How will people use it there? They most likely do not even know about its existence. civilization has not yet reached them. And these are not some tribes in the Amazon River. For example, in Nepal there are many villages where there is no electricity, but people live there.

No, the time has not yet come when you can calmly talk about the immortality of Bitcoin. This is more like a utopia.

Did I not say quasi-immortal?  I did not say Bitcoin is immortal,  I even make the word quasi-immortal bold and underlined it to emphasize.

So instead of saying Bitcoin is immortal, I believe it is more appropriate to say that Bitcoin is quasi-immortal.

I even state the reason why I said so which align to what you are saying to me in your reply.. (see the bolded part)

Did not my post that you quoted answer this already?

Unless all is fully automated Bitcoin's existence is tied to human activity

This statement does not mean other part of the world cannot use Bitcoin, or can say Bitcoin does not exist because other part of the world has no electricity.  We are talking about the activity of Bitcoin, is it operating or not even if those part your stated has no electricity.  This does not prove that Bitcoin is dead or not operational because there are part of the world that has no electricity or internet.

Does not affect the uptime of Bitcoin.  The only thing that affect the uptime of Bitcoin is power interference, the internet connection and the hashing power that solves the block continously.  As long as these factor is present, regardless whether the electriciy covers only a small part of the world, the Bitcoin uptime will continue.

That said I believe you are talking about the accessibility and not the uptime/operation of Bitcoin network.

Let's say (hypothetically) governments find a way to shut down Bitcoin or centralize the whole thing. Even if they succeed, Bitcoin will survive because of its open source nature. Meaning, anyone with the code can just re-launch BTC and restore its decentralized capabilities. Not even purging or banning GitHub (or similar) repositories will be able to destroy Bitcoin. And don't get me started on Quantum computing.

At this point, I'd say Bitcoin is immortal. Wouldn't you agree? If not, may I ask why?

Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Smiley
Bitcoin’s resilience is undeniable, but calling it "immortal" assumes no existential threats. Its open-source nature ensures it can be replicated, but true survival depends on network security, adoption, and economic incentives.

Governments can’t shut it down, but they can regulate on/off ramps, restrict mining, or push CBDCs as an alternative, affecting liquidity and adoption. Quantum computing is a future challenge, though BTC can adapt with post-quantum cryptography.

Bitcoin is incredibly robust, but survival isn’t just about code—it’s about maintaining decentralization, economic relevance, and user trust. Immortal? Maybe not. Unstoppable? Most likely.

Don't think about quantums too much.
They wouldn't be used on BTC mainly even if there would be developments in that department. And it won't be as accessible as it should have been to break some cogs everywhere.

You make a great point. While Bitcoin's price could rise significantly in the long term, even at very high valuations, smaller fractions like satoshis will remain accessible due to Bitcoin's divisibility. Predicting when or if it’ll reach tens of millions is highly speculative, so for now, it’s all just speculation and unknowns. Smiley

Yes, it is highly likely that he wrote about accessibility. It still doesn't work out very well when the majority of the planet's population does not have access to such technologies. It is impossible to say that Bitcoin is free if others have no way to it, so to speak. First, everyone must learn about it, and only then make an independent decision about using it. This opportunity was deprived, and therefore I cannot fully agree with the statement that Bitcoin provides freedom. We judge from our own point of view, which is wrong. This world is much more diverse.
