I'm a novice in Bitcoin. My friend gave me a set of 12-word mnemonic phrase and she also noted down the Bitcoin address after it.I tried to look up the address he noted down but found it was not there. I imported it into the Bitget wallet using a mnemonic phrase consisting of 12 words. The address format for Native SegWit (m/84'/0'/0'/0/0) is bc1q9mgqm6v476rxjmtsn2c66mgm0e35xj0wtap6sy And the note she gave me was indeed bcrt1q9mgqm6v476rxjmtsn2c66mgm0e35xj0wrjryu7 Dear all experts, does anyone know what's going on here? Please help me figure it out. Thank you very much.

It is not your key, it's not your coin if you fund that wallet with bitcoin. Don't trust your friend who created that wallet and give 12-word mnemonic seed to you, because at least your friend and you know and own the wallet seed. You or your friend have same access to that wallet and can move bitcoin in it anytime. I tried to look up the address he noted down but found it was not there. I imported it into the Bitget wallet using a mnemonic phrase consisting of 12 words.
You know how to import it to a wallet, and this is a wallet recovery practice, so I ask you why you are not able to create a wallet by yourself and have to rely to your friend? The address format for Native SegWit (m/84'/0'/0'/0/0) is bc1q9mgqm6v476rxjmtsn2c66mgm0e35xj0wtap6sy And the note she gave me was indeed bcrt1q9mgqm6v476rxjmtsn2c66mgm0e35xj0wrjryu7 Dear all experts, does anyone know what's going on here? In a same wallet, there are many addresses. Bitget is not a good wallet, it's close source. You can see it is noted as "No source!" there https://walletscrutiny.com/?platform=allPlatforms&page=0&query-string=bitgetChoose open source wallet to use in future. https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallethttps://learnmeabitcoin.com/beginners/wallets/https://www.lopp.net/bitcoin-information/recommended-wallets.html

To understand what bitcoin wallets is very simple.
Seed phrase is used for wallet recovery and to generate your private key needed in spending. Bitcoin is stored on blockchain. The seed phrase can generate the private key needed to spend your coins. So if you have it, you have access to your coin.
The address is what you will give to people. That is only what people can know and not your seed phrase. Anyone that knows your seed phrase can steal your coin. You suppose to be the one that knows it and not not your friend. The best is to generate a new seed phrase and addresses.

The one in the note is a Bitcoin " RegTest" Native SegWit Address, it's meant for testing purposes only specifically used on a closed local network. Why did she gave you a RegTest address and a mnemonic in the first place? Is she convincing you of something like a high displayed balance? Anyways, whatever you do, do not send anything to the wallet that you've just restored using that seed ( mnemonic) phrase. If you want to create your own Bitcoin wallet, make sure that no one else knows your seed phrase, so create a wallet and keep the mnemonic phrase safely written on paper/physical media. If it's created by others, keep it but don't use it ever.

The address format is different you have the first one as "bc1q" and the second one as "bcrt", I had to look closely to identify it so you won't probably see it if you search it , not sure I have seen any address with "bcrt" ... Then why would you have your friend generating your seed for you , what if he betrays you, you can't do anything as it was meant to be a secret only for you no third party. Generating a wallet isn't that hard , just make sure you keep the seed phrase safe and cold [you will be fine ]. [Edit]Just seeing nc50lc probably "RegTest" as he mentioned, it's actually my first time coming across it.. After some search I found this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5268794.0 It should tell alot about it ..

If the wallet was created by your friend and she gave you the seed phrase, I don't support you to trust her because if you make any deposit and continue to accumulate Bitcoin on the wallet address, it might get compromised by her. However, do not trust anyone in the crypto space because some are scammers and they already know that Bitcoin is a digital asset. If you are ready to start up Bitcoin investment and your accumulation of Bitcoin, create an electrum wallet and keep the seed phrase carefully then select any of the address and use.

What you need is knowledge about wallets and how to protect your funds, this being a basic knowledge that you need before you purchase your first Bitcoin. Someone already shared important resources below and in addition to that, Youtube is also a great place to learn about Bitcoin, wallets and security. To make the process short, I think you can start learning about how to install and use Electrum wallet which is an open source wallet. With time you will learn about other wallets but to get you started with buying Bitcoin already, Electrum is perfect for you.

You got convincing reply that someone is trying to rip you off so better stay away from the scammers. You can create your own wallet, it doesn't need technical knowledge, just download Electrum from the official site https://electrum.org/ for your OS, for Android you can find it in the Play Store itself. Once you downloaded, backup the Seed words given to you once you done the installation you can find your addresses in the address tab. Here's the guide as well: [GUIDE] How to Safely Download and Verify Electrum [Guide]

If your friend created a Bitcoin wallet and send you the seed phrase you should know that it's not your wallet and you could likely get scammed in the future, though she wouldn't have to show her interest now about the wallet but she may keeps monitoring address when a huge amount is sent to that wallet, she wouldn't mind withdrawing it from you without your knowledge. As we know a close friend can emptied your wallet without you knowing who did that, except you would track to the final destination and if you are lucky that happens to be exchange address you could write to them about your scam then exchange might keep monitoring same address and if there are any further funds sent to it they wouldn't mind freezing the account for scam association.

OP, it is good you brought up this topic because I believe you have learnt from the comments and replies from members here. One thing you should know is that in crypto space, a wallet which could be accessed by more than one person is never safe and that should tell you the danger involved in storing asset in that wallet because not only have the keys so it is no more a private wallet and anything can happen. Do not trust your friend to create a wallet and give you the seed phrase to the wallet to use. It is not wise and would put you at risk.
Well you can use this as a case study to learn because if you did not have brought this up, you might have used the wallet and wake up one morning to find your asset missing from your wallet and you will have nobody to blame for your carelessness. Create another wallet and use in place of the one created by your friend for you, maybe you could use the one created by your friend to learn more about wallets so you know how it works, what to do, and how to go about it.

If the wallet had been handed over to you successfully, then the amount stipulated would have been there, there is no trust on any third party when it comes to bitcoin and your wallet, but I may not argue much on this since you were given, but am sure your friend has an intention towards that wallet, ensure that you don't later send bitcoin into that same wallet in the future because that same friend have access to the wallet too indirectly, why creating you the wallet when the coins can be sent only to your own personal wallet, just be careful.

In this screenshot those are segwit native address, have you already found the address you're looking for? I suggest that don't use it as the passphrase is not safe anymore. It should be available only for one person and avoid sharing it to anyone for safety and security reasons reasons.

It's not just the last few characters of the address, the main difference is: The first few characters " bcrt1" in your example in OP indicates that the addresses in your friend's notes aren't for Bitcoin mainnet. The last few characters are just part of the checksum which definitely will not match if the " network bytes" that determine the first characters is different ( different in MainNet and Regtest). The rest of the characters are the same because both are encoded using the same public key hash since both set of addresses ( left and right) are derived from the same seed.

Did your friend create that wallet for you or did you buy some bitcoin from her and instead of sending you the coins to your own wallet via an on-chain transaction, she gave you that seed? I'm asking this because based on the image you shared, it looks like the wallet is funded and if I have to guess then I would say it’s the testnet one. I hope this is not what happened, but if it did then I'm sorry to tell you that you have been scammed as those coins are worthless.
In any case, you should always create your wallet by yourself as you are not supposed to share the seed with anyone else.
