Is there something we would not see on X? We have seen many accounts that were hacked but this one is different because the account was not hacked but created by the scammer in the name of Bermuda Premier, David Burt to promote a fake token. What that makes this surprising is because the scammers created a new X account and the account is checked (or marked) grey which means it it belongs to government official. Even David Burt X account is not checked in grey. Although government officials need to to have official account on X which I think the government official will need to request for it. A scammer posing as David Burt, the premier of Bermuda, created a fake profile on the X social media platform to promote a fraudulent token called "Bermuda National Coin" to users.
On Feb. 14, premier Burt became aware of the scam account, warned users of the malicious actor, and tagged both the platform and Elon Musk in a message bringing the impersonator to their attention.]A scammer posing as David Burt, the premier of Bermuda, created a fake profile on the X social media platform to promote a fraudulent token called "Bermuda National Coin" to users.

That scammer is something else, using the name of a head of state and even a "Bermuda National Coin," which we could think like an official coin of a country. But honestly, why do so many people still fall for these kinds of scams when we all know this has happened before; aren't people aware of it?
Thankfully, the account only has 51k followers, if it had millions, the chances of scooping up a lot of money from this scam would be much higher. It also didn't say how much was lost, but in most scam attempts, it's almost impossible for foolish investors not to get some money out of it.

Are you shocked now this became possible? Of course it is not to me, I have come across multiple accounts especially on the X platform being impersonated with the rate of about 99.99% resemblance in that the impersonator creates a similar account with just a single alphabetical, number or symbol different which turns convinceable for people to easily caption.
The scammers was fully dedicated in farming the fake account using Bermuda premie's name and he was using logs to attract audience to follow the account until X officials was notified of the accounts popular so they had to verify it as official account due to it highily influence on the X platform. So it is like the fake account was being faster to gain popularity than the Bermuda premie real account that was why the fake account was affirmed verify with the grey mark meaning it has become an official account.
This is main reason why official accounts are being marked grey so the public can always detect it official accounts and believe whatever similar accounts should be impersonation.
So drastic actions should be taken in other for the fake account to be taken down while the real Bermuda premie account be verified officially. This will only be the option to end the controversy otherwise, the impersonator will keep accumulating followers ought to be the real Bermuda premier followers

Everyday new tactics are being used by scammers to target people and collect money from them. This scam will not be easily detected unless the individual do more digging which is the right thing to do before putting money. Unfortunately, not everyone have the patience to do that, the reason some people will fall for this cheap scam. Care must always be taken to avoid being victim to these scams because it is looking like there are more scam projects than realm projects.

X has been prone to hijacking accounts or creating fake accounts to scam people into investing in crypto, and this leaves a bad image for crypto, even if it doesn't affect X too much, but X has to make sure they improve their system so that this won't become rampant in the future. Although many of us are already aware of this, there are still some who can easily be scammed because they don't have much knowledge yet are simply looking for an opportunity to earn. The revenue from scams last year was huge, including that scam on X. https://www.chainalysis.com/blog/2024-pig-butchering-scam-revenue-grows-yoy/In 2024, cryptocurrency scams received at least $9.9 billion on-chain, an estimate that will increase as we identify more illicit addresses associated with fraud and scams in the coming months.

From some time now I avoid social media and specially X. It's not the first time we see scammers impersonating celebrities or authority figures, and it seems that although the personal data rights of honest people are usually violated by these platforms, scammers aren't pursued as they should.
I don't know in other jurisdictions, but in mine, apart from a crime of fraud, impersonating public officials is an additional, specific type of crime itself.

Well don't really trust Elon Musk. And many would continue to fall for such because of their trust in celebrity figure Even if they don't even know what's wallet. There are some that are aware of a rugpull or a scam but are blinded by greed and false wisdom That they can get something before the rugpull. Maybe if the hacked account take some responsibilities people are going to take securing their account serious. Knowing full well their account influence the lives of millions.

Scammers work overtime. I would say they are hardworking but they aren't, because if they had, they would have done something better with their time and become multimilionaries. Famous people are usually the target of scams. During the time that Ross William Ulbricht was about to be released, some scammers did a similar thing. They created an account in his name (they made a small change in one of the letters so that it is not easily noticeable) on X and used that medium to create engagement and direct people to buy some Ross tokens. They did this until it was made known to the public and their account was reported. Everyone need to verify before engaging with accounts on the internet.

From what I understand, to get a grey badge on your account, you need to submit a personal document. So it seems the scammer must have gotten his hands on David Burt's personal document, probably from the darkweb or he submitted a fake document with the help of an AI generated tool which was accepted by X. Sadly, this is not the first time a high profile personality is getting impersonated on X, and they really need to do more with their security checks to avoid future occurrences.

X should have been more careful with this. Scammers penetrating their platform and innocent account were vicitimized and use as a scammers account. Posting memecoins on official account, I wonder those Peoppe got used due to their status. Trump started this and some are probably copying it problem is these follow up dumb are scammers and the innocent one are the victim.

this reminded me of the article I read(even created a thread out of it) a couple of weeks back where a couple of Filipino scammers impersonated the US treasury and tried to issue fake JP Morgan, BlackRock and Bank of America, tokens on the XRPL. these scammers were balsy for doing what they did. here's the article if you are interested to read it https://bitpinas.com/cryptocurrency/filipino-scammers-xrp/

If you are not careful on social media X then you will become a victim of scams because there are so many fake accounts disguised as the real thing, even in terms of hacking they can convince other users.
The scammer created a new X account with a gray tick means they spent a lot of money to get this tick? It's crazy now that scammers dare to make capital to scam on X.
The point is not to trust too much in X, more research in the FOMO hit.

What that makes this surprising is because the scammers created a new X account and the account is checked (or marked) grey which means it it belongs to government official. Even David Burt X account is not checked in grey. Although government officials need to to have official account on X which I think the government official will need to request for it.
I wouldn't be surprised if such a thing happens on twitter (x) because as we know the check mark or tag is something that could lead many people to believe that profile is real. To me I understand from the very right time Elon decided to start accepting payment for check mark has now created more room for scammers to easily impersonate someone and request for easy checkmark, because this checkmark can now be bought and quite easy for scammers to use someone else real name to make account and scam the general public.

Another case of impersonation, but how the hell did that account got that badge. I want to believe that X(Twitter) makes demand for personal info while verifying ones account, or am I missing something here. I can remember another case of Peter Dinklage(Game of thrones actor), who said that he found out that someone created a fake Instagram account with his name, with over 4.5 million followers. I wonder how some people manage to pull this trick off for a long period of time, without these social platforms noticing them. And sadly, the launch of fake crypto project has been the perfect scamming strategy. These scammers know how large some celebrities' fan base can be, and so, many of these fans don't even bother verifying things properly, as they completely trust the supposed celebrities. Social platforms has alot to do, and the suppose fan base also have alot to do.

I haven't check the profile on X so I didn't know if it's verified or not. We should always think not to be too easily get fooled or to easily trust other without checking them first.

I mostly fear this kind of scam attempts because you won't know you're relating to another person who have taken charge through impersonation, that is why we have to be very careful on those we follow and receiving offers from them, sometimes they got their account being compromised and the hackers take charge of posting offers on their behalf, hackers know how they can make fake things looks real, because they know if they don't do so, you may suspect on them for such attempt to scam, they are now perfect in using tricks like this.

That is to say that there are professional scammers that are far reasoning beyond unbelievable. So anyone standing out with any potential values that is liable to attract scammers is just best safe to always be concious at be watchful at anytime of being in the watchlist of scammers without waiting for them to strike first, we don't even need to know their strategies because most at times they strikes at where we don't believe they would. Who would imaginably believe the possibility of this scammer with highily level of impersonation? See, the 51K followers of this scammer is huge enough of him making a lot money from them and I think it is such a huge number of followers that is feasible enough to believe the fake account was an official one.

This is the same as the Saudi prince launching a memecoin where the Saudi pricne twitter account shill the memecoin while the real Saudi prince claimed his account in twitter was hacked.
Seem like they are already promoting celebrity memecoin ike Hawk Tua and then its a fake memecoin. Quite timely while Elon also own twitter. It could either be Elon not making the accounts secure or it him behind all these. Of course this is very crazy accusation from me.

According to the whole story, the scammers went as far as getting the X account verified not just with the normal blue ticker but with the ticker, which is meant to represent government officials, aside from the number of followers that the account has. That alone could have made the scam scheme very believable and less suspicious, but the original identity owner noticed it and raised an alarm about it, which has jeopardised the plan of that scammer.

These island scams are getting lazy hackers took over official accounts to pump fake "national coins" in Bermuda and Cayman. At least with Milei's token it was a real launch only that it was a massive rug pull but these are just straight up hacks pushing scams.
