I will start by telling a little story of what I saw and how it gave me motivation to work hard and also help me have a great thought for tomorrow.

Yesterday I went to visit my friend at his work place in a busy motor park filled with children, adults cars business men and women as well as itinerants a place filled with thousands of business people and passers by it was interesting sitting and watching the activities going on there. Shortly I needed to quench my thirst because the sun was much and I walked down from a long distance then he told me to call one of the hawkers cause there was no need stepping out when there are alot of them walking up and down.
Area of concentration: when I got up to call anyone of them passing bruh though it's not a new thing but I saw men of over 30,35,40,45-50 years of age men and women in this my story I'm not interested in the teens and children these people of these age were running with buckets, crates and so on on their head dragging who to reach first with the children and that time I lost the thirst I was weak in my spirit, I refused to call on them cause I didn't want those men and women to come and bow for me to take water and I discovered they weren't smiling like the younger ones do and they were more serious can you imagine at there age. I ended up not calling any I went to look for a shop where I can get the water. But I truly believe they're not happy doing that but they have to.

Now consider these facts maybe they have children and wife to care isn't that creating more poverty to the society we are humans we should think bible also warned work in the days of your youth imagine the stress and agony I saw in their faces it's a lifetime regret for them, you that have all these things I mentioned what do you want to be your excuse for tomorrow young ones zip up not tomorrow you blame government.

Nobody plan's to be a failure in life but life can bend you to any extend. It takes only the grace of God to achieve success in life. You made reference of some factors that can cause poverty or hardship in old age and that is true.

My advice to younger generations : just discover your purpose (dreams), pursue  your dreams, put in your best (hardwork), pray to your maker and you will tell a success story thank you.

it is the reason why it is necessary to start investing even at a young age and do so intentionally so by the time we start to age and get to our fourties, our investment would have grown to the extent we don't need to be do any serious work before getting ends meet. at a certain age, our investment should be enough to feed and sustain us till we meet our end, that is the best thing we can do so our future selves can be proud of our current decision. life can be very much unpredictable and so it is only best that once an opportunity presents itself to us, we make the very best out of it.

I made some mistakes in life that I have always regretted. I wasted so much time and resources on things that are not necessary. Spending on designers clothing, expensive phones and other gadget that you don't really need is a waste if resources. The youthful age is a time to invest in education, skills and assets.

In my country business owners don't know the importance of insurance. Many businesses are not insured against unforeseen circumstances. The insurance premium might be high, but it is very important.

A little wrong decision made in the past can catch up sooner and old man may not be able to stand the test when high inflation is making life difficult. I've talked to some old friends I have, what they should have done in the past one of them said I should have graduated Law.

Generally life is does not always answer to us for what we need at all times in some way life makes you think of it or see as though it's difficult or that you can not really achieve what you desire to achieve but you can always do
Whoever must succeed must beat in mind that your background is not a reason for you to not succeed or succeed
It's a conscious decision to succeed whatever you find yourself doing do it well and with all your heart it will definitely pay you off in the nearest future
Young people should engage in something and start small it pays to do something for yourself you might not get the scale you want it but if you can give time you will definitely not be at a place

Yes I understand your point, but you only talk about God's grace. But I think for future we have to arrange some money to invest. If 5 dollar are earned then 3 dollar from there.  Two dollar should be saved after spending.

This scenario for some of those who still work and struggling to make earns meet even at older age isn't due to them haven enjoyed their youthful time when they could have planned, invest and work hard for the future.

Some of these sets of persons do fall in the category of those as it's in the OP where they are as a result of "no helper, no support source" and as a result they could have much to start a family as early they would have on order that they don't get to still working that hard to start taking care of their children at their old age when it would have been the children taking care of their needs in return. I think situations ain't just same for everyone and shouldn't be quickly generalize.

My philosophy about life is that you get from life what you deserve, and that alone makes life very much fair in my view. You don't expect life to profoundly shower you with wealth at old age out of pity when you never worked or invested your time and energy towards making conditions get better for you while you were in your youthful time.

A lot of those people in OP's story failed to make plans for the future, some thought they still had time to spend on short-lived enjoyments and they couldn't help but procrastinate in the face of opportunity to build for their future. Life isn't partial, if you dare to be different you'll reap the prize.

The story is very inspiring but we have to try to do something good in our youth then it will definitely bring us good results in the future. Maybe he failed in his plan that is why he fell victim to such a situation. If we move forward according to the right plan, it will be easy to build a good life. Youth is the only tool for a person to rise up. If we work hard in our youth according to our strength and ability, we will not have to think of doing such a thing in our old age.

Learn how to make a decision that will favour you in the future, many people are suffering today based on the wrong decision they took in the past because they believed helping others people is a wast of time to them, not knowing that things will turn around for position to change in the society for them to experience what other people went through.

A person must have a picture of what kind of future they want to get in old age, then projected in several stages and achievements in each year for development targets in achieving the final goal, for example in the next 10 years then you must project what stages must be taken or obtained to achieve the highest goal so that it is well structured in a life goal plan, most people only have the desire to achieve something in their lives without having a detailed plan from upstream to downstream so that they do not achieve anything in their lives because the plans made are unclear or not directed at the desired life goal.

That is the difference between doing it then and doing it now. Doing at young age is better because you will have so much opportunity to get things done, make mistakes and correct them so you dont have to do them when you are old. While doing it at old age it will only be for survival sake just like you have said and the reward is nothing. Funny enough it cant even put food comfortable on the table when doing it at that time. And there will be a certain limit to which your strength can take you to.

It's quite unfortunate of people realizing their lapses lately at their old ages and then it becomes a point of competition between fathers (adults) and sons (younger children) in the streets of survival based on the fittest particularly manpower and skillful application.
Whenever I encounters such category of old people like that, I began to imagine what they may have been doing during their youthful ages that they now engages on street hustling that barely put a square on their family table. How they get to pay their bills and take well care of their responsibilities is also worth baffling because seeing the hawkers in the streets most times they looses and the profits from their petty business is rarely to surpass 5% incomes daily.
I also feel for kids who're lost of going to schools and no proper healthcares and accomodations rather as the economy has seem too difficult for the poor to survive, means to eat has been the most problem why the streets is flooded with people regardless of their ages just to be able to find food to eat and stay alive while hope for a better future lies in the mind and some are totally hopeless to what the future holds.

All the causes of set back at old age you mentioned are correct but I'll like to add that some persons actually put in the work at their young age, did everything followed the rules and eventually made wealth themselves. I'm sure we've heard of stories of people that lost their wealth due to  some unforseen circumstances. Circumstances can cause someone to lose wealth. Things like wrong investments, mismanagement of the business they've built, going through fraud from someone they trust etc. I know the factors you mentioned can cause someone to go through unnecessary struggle at old age but sometimes it's just beyond what the eyes can see.

In general, you need to work hard in your youth to have a career growth and then everything will be fine. We need to try harder.

Aside from circumstances beyond one's control or spiritual circumstances for people who believe in spiritual causes, if you indeed build wealth in your youth, invest, have more than one stream of income, and practice financial management - because it's not just about making money, but also about how to manage your money, how to multiply your money. Also, take care of your health so that in your old age, you won't spend your money on taking care of your health.

Then, if you make up your mind to have a family, train your children very well so you won't give your wealth to children who will cause you nothing but pain.  Because some people neglect family and later the children end up being their nemesis. They use their parents hard-earned money to live a lavish lifestyle.

If possible, have a trust account for yourself, aside from your children so when you retire, you can just be making use of it. Or, if health permits, you can even keep yourself busy with a personal small business. Because it's very pathetic as we see this in our society. 60's is not the age to work but to retire and relax but if you don't plan very well, it might be tougher.

As humans, we're obliged to make mistakes, it's normal in the system, everyone have a burden they carried.
