Hello Bitcointalk,

To read first - original post about the Munich Project is here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=524025.40

In order to make people involved into our project from the beginning, we decided to let you choose a good coin name for our great project.

The contest is now open to anyone who have a good name in relation with what our coin & associated ecosystem will do.

You can suggest as many names as you want. You also can endorse a coin name you like; the endorsments will definitely counts with our final choice. Domain names availability will also guide our final choice.

The contest will be closed the Sunday 13th April at midnight GMT, and we will disclose the chosen name before the 15th April (in case the final choice is obvious to us).

If the final choice is difficult to make, we'll organize a poll to let you the final choice. Please give us your sentiment about the way you prefer.

After this, we will launch the contest for the logo creation.

The reward for the winner of this contest will be a investment value of 0.5 BTC in our first IPO : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=553312.0

As always, we are open to any suggestions you will have.

We are very impatient to read your ideas,

Donn

How about "TrunkCoin"? The domain name is available as I write. Other candidates I looked at, such as Hubcoin, didn't have the domains.

If you're planning to sell your coin's ecosystem to the bigwigs, "TrunkCoin" will resonate. They're old enough to remember what a phone-system "trunk line" was/is.

A more modern variant would be "BackboneCoin" or "FibreCoin". Both of those have the .com domain available too.

Interesting work,
I thought long about a name for your currency and finally decided. I tried to combine both computer terminology and also "money".
Then suddenly got my idea.

DOSHCOIN
D.O.S.H
(Disk Operating System Hash)
Dosh is also a slang word for money.

Catchy, original, meaningful, clever, and cool.  Cool

When picking the name, don't forget that it should sound appealing. Bitcoin was genius in its choice of name, as it represented its nature in a simple way. On the other hand, it wasn't cheap at the same time: The name for a currency, that is. I suggest picking a name that hints at the nature of the coin, without sounding cheap or misleading, a plain and simple choice, a name that people would actually speak out and not feel weird about, especially when they are not really involved in crypto at all and just want to use it as a matter of payment.

This is why I would suggest names such as E-Fiat, E-Money, Bitfiat, Cryptofiat or similar. You should get the idea. You don't need an ending like "-coin". You don't want a name that you have to explain in more than one sentence.

Let me suggest EvoCoin (EVO) - because I think the most defining characteristic is the "evolutive n-factor depending on the power of the network". But when explaining the meaning, I'd use 'evolving' rather than 'evolutive', which is a rather difficult word.

Edit: EVO will be easy to recognize because the abbreviation is almost the same as the name.

Your reasoning is excellent, but your examples are awful. Cryptocurrencies are not fiat money at all, 'fiat' is not a word used by the general public, and 'E-Money' sounds too much like emunie and existing fiat money services such as eMoney in Georgia.

Nice project. A light in the dark  Cheesy
Me, I think too, there is no need to use the word coin.
For this will be something new, this claims to be one step further in evolution,  the name should clearly distinguish this new project from bitcoin and other altcoins. Do we want to be classified as the next alt-/scam-/shitcoin or do we want to be recognized as somthing new and different?

My proposal: a combination of the words "virtual" and "currency"!

VINCY - the VIrtual curreNCY

It has some kind of seriousness. It declares that this project is not a joke  - ...and: perhaps the sound of "VINCY" reminds of "victory", "veni, vidi, vici" or good old Leonardo. - I think "VINCY" transports positive images and feelings. One first step to trust in this new thing.

The smallest divisible unit ( 0,01 ) could be one Vincy-Cent.
That would bei pronounceable und sounds even quit cute to me.

Vincy, an businesslike unemotional name awakening positive emotional associations.

How about MunichCoin - doesn't that say everything you want it to say?

Sounds good to me, and i'd guess it sounds good to others.

Anyway, food for thought...

Cute, but not distinctive enough. Maybe it should be the Non-Standard Difficulty Adjusting Pfennig (NSDAP).

Just kidding, that would be another kind of Munich Project Wink
