Keeping a journal like that with the aim of knowing how much money you have lost and how much money you have earned in a certain period of time can be useful and it can also not be at all, I mean in the end it depends on whether after seeing the data from the journal you are willing or able to evaluate and make changes or not, if for example there are no changes that you make after you have recorded everything then it is clear that it will never be useful.

It's a difficult thing to do and yet it must be done. Sharing the problem with others can somehow lessen the regrets that we had and it will probably help take out the frustration too. It's a big first step and it will be worth it as we go to recovery.
I think this is why I don't have any trouble with my gambling habit. I always share everything with my wife especially when I win and that makes her happy, sometimes she also asks me if I already won or not. If someday I make $2,000 per month, it doesn't mean I have to be disciplined for only stick with $10 for gambling, it could increase to $40 because I've make 4x. This is about percentage from your income, instead of certain amount.
