Cardware Hardware Wallet? [unofficial]

There is interesting new hardware wallet released in the market named Cardware, and it can be purchased for $77.
Cardware is AirGapped only, it is using QR code scanning, and it has CC EAL6+ certification secure element.
There is web app used for connecting with Cardware, but I would prefer to have support for other software wallets.
They claim source code is available but I can't find github page.

 I can't find such page on github, either. All I found is here but there is no relevant source code there.

I think it still early to be delighted at this product. Smells fishy for me. We already encountered similar announcements that later turned into scams.

Is this the BTC/EVM version? Because I can add the BTC version to the chart and check out just fine. I didn't progress further since I'd have to put my card details but I don't think it's a presale. I guess you can count this as a pre-order if the product needs to be assembled first before it gets shipped.

Btw, buying an extra 2 years of warranty is quite expensive. You need to pay $175 (shipment fee not included) for that. CMIIW.

Yeah, your wording is more correct, this might be device  is definitely on a pre-order stage.

Regarding your question. They made two contradictory statements . One of them describes product as that one which is suitable for "BTC & EVM user', while other - as "BTC Only device" which makes me more suspicious.

Their website seems to be outdated. Today is "February 21, 2025,", but footer on their website still says "© 2024 Cardware Wallet (Pty) Ltd. All rights reserved.".

I'm quite surprised they managed to stay under the radar for the past 5 months or so ^{[based on their activities on X]} and I'm a bit impressed with its features ^{[first-time seeing the integration of "video streams" for the generation of entropy (not sure if it already exists on other HWs)]}. In addition to paper backups, their packages also come with steel backups ^{[another plus point]}.

Despite being air-gapped, I have mixed feelings about the fact that there won't be any firmware updates ^{[e.g. bad for future vulnerabilities (if there'd be any)]}.

I'm still not sure if users can completely eliminate using their Web app, but according to this "Linkedin post", it's "fully compatible with Electrum, Sparrow, and Specter".

Bitcoin only Cardware can be purchased now, and warranty can be added for one or two years.
This is the crazy part, for 1 year warranty we have to pay $49 extra, or for 2 years price is $98 extra, that is more than the price of device...

That is for two purchased devices, warranty of two years for one device is showing $98 extra to me.
Anyway, it's crazy to pay so much for this.

I think Cardware does not have any type of connection with other devices, except with camera with QR codes.

Ops, my bad, they offer  devices with different firmware and one of them, dedicated solely to BTC, can be purchased already, but I’m not going to believe this until I hear it from users  who bought this product.

Regarding  their hardwired firmware, I have found that they  intend to make it open on their github but still they did not do this. I would wait a couple of years to see what happen next with this wallet.

I can't find anything about Cardware on YouTube (the name is very reminiscent of coldcard, sometimes even confusing me), but on X (https://x.com/cardwarewallet) there are some very short videos demonstrating the device in action.

The device itself looks fragile, but that might just be my impression.

The BTC-only model is available for purchase, is that it? According to the site, they allow to buy it.

Cardware has a docs, I wonder what it's like to type the passphrase on this device (apparently 4 buttons), anyway, searching through their docs, I didn't see anything related to passphrase...

It didn't convince me much, despite being a cheap device compared to its competitors coldcard, passport etc. I believe it should at least come with some difference that makes it easier to enter the PIN or passphrase like an alphanumeric keyboard.

I am not a fan of the transparent case or the devices' incompatibility with other software wallets. The Jade has it as well and so does Coldcard but the colors are darker which doesn't make it so revealing.
The shipping costs are as expensive as the device. I like that they use BTCPay for crypto payments.

Their comparison table shows that the Coldcard isn't a 100% offline wallet. I wonder what they mean by that and would love to hear their reasoning.

Yeah, this decision have pros and cons.

One of the pros is that this wallet is not vulnerable to $5 wrench attack on the leading developers who could  be captured  by gangsters to force them develop the  relevant firmware  with the remote access to wallet. All wallets with updatable  firmware is under such kind of risk. This is one of the reasons  why I  take my time before updating firmware for those hardware wallets I have.
