We have been playing with Ethereum private testnets ever since the merge. The protocol has an inactivity leak mode, something like a "safe mode" where when the chain fails to finalize after 4 epochs, those who are inactive will progressively get penalized. At some point, they will reach the ejection balance where they are forced to be ejected as active validators. We have been doing a lot of simulations and we realized that with 100,000 to 2M validators and with a lot of them go offline, at some point, there will be mass ejections. So far, after so many simulations and trying to recover all our private testnets, we can't somehow recover from this. We have modified the protocol so far it looks good even after 2 million validators and 99% of them suddenly go offline, the chain can still survive.

Ethereum 2 protocol is amazing. Except the design of the ejection balance and inactivity leak mode. It was supposed to survive world war 3 type events, but somehow, we can't recover from it based on our simulations. Unless we are missing something.
