I have being giving this question a thought for days now, if other altcoins can be a threat to bitcoin especially ethereum which some folks are saying is a threat to bitcoin, and I came to understand that, the reason why other altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin is that, bitcoin being the first and largest cryptocurrency has survived external attacks and attempted ban from government, which no altcoin has face such attack, because bitcoin has already paved way for them.

bitcoin has also overcome many social and political trials, which those trials almost led to the shut down of bitcoin, yet bitcoin  gain more attention and adoption, which no altcoin has gained such attention and adoption, not even ethereum which some folks out there are saying is a threat to bitcoin.

Bitcoin has already dominated the crypto space, because it has always remained active and accessible without interruption, and to my own best of knowledge I don't think if companies like Facebook, Microsoft and Google have achieved this level of reliability which bitcoin has achieved so far, talk more of altcoins.

And I we also like to see more contributions from members of this forum, let prove to some folks out there that altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin, because alot of folks out there are saying that ethereum will be the end and the down fall of bitcoin, which I doubt.

Out of all the shitcoins you unfortunately picked the shittiest of them all. Ethereum.
Ethereum lost any hope when it switched to POS
Bitcoin strength isn't just been the first
But it's decentralized system and resilience like an honey badger.

Well first and foremost to answer your question,(NO). Basically for any coin to become a threat to Bitcoin it means it has to beat the Bitcoin network which is going to be near impossible to happen. The strength of the bitcoin network is unmatched by any other ranging from value, to Blockchain security to even supply and circulation.

To put it into perspective the Bitcoin network is unique. In addition to all these it actually has more enthusiastic investors and more adopters than every other cryptocurrency.
I think it's even safer to say bitcoin is the only coin with a creator without a core drive of profit

No one can replace Bitcoin as it's the king of crypto.

If we look at the numbers, Bitcoin currently holds over 60% dominance in the entire altcoin market. That alone shows the massive gap and which coin is leading and controlling the space. If the whole crypto market were to collapse, it would mean Bitcoin collapsed first because as long as Bitcoin stands strong, the rest of the market follows.

The future is unpredictable and the crypto industry is still growing and will only get stronger, so whether bitcoin will dominate the crypto market forever remains a question mark. But for now and in the near future, bitcoin will still be king and certainly no one can threaten it. Because when you look at the altcoin market, they seem like a mess, a place for gambling, speculation...instead of focusing on building products with use cases, real applications...like bitcoin. The purpose of creating bitcoin and altcoins is very different and that may be why bitcoin is the most trusted and secure coin on the market.

Threat - nope!

Some altcoins may give some competition to Bitcoin and that's about it. Because if we talk about technically advanced cryptos, we have multiple options in the market. Why you still can't see a competition? Bitcoin has the first mover advantage and a huge base of supporters.

However, if many governments start adding Bitcoin to their reserve, then I foresee Bitcoin becoming too centralized. That may drive out some people from Bitcoin. But that has nothing to do with other cryptos.

Personally I'd not count on Bitcoin falling against anything else, unless a problem with Bitcoin itself causes it. Though that's not to say that anything can't help. Just like in all free markets, anything can happen...A new Bitcoin contender may already rising in the ranks though has not yet matured enough to be alongside or near it (one comes to mind), or, Bitcoin becomes insecure and another takes the crown...or maybe there will never be anything as economically sound, innovative or secure as Bitcoin (I share this with a big shift in the top 10 in the coming 5 years). The way that it grew and evolved is irreplaceable I would say.

I don't think there is any altcoins that can be a threat to bitcoin. We all know that bitcoin already faced a lot of challenges like governments bans or attacks but it is still the first and top cryptocurrency in the market.

The biggest threat to Bitcoin is Trump Coin… just kidding!

But seriously, do you really think there’s any real threat to Bitcoin in the entire crypto market? Take a look at Bitcoin’s price history and how the entire market has grown because of it. Honestly, without Bitcoin, these altcoins would be nothing. We have plenty of altcoins out there, and a huge percentage of them are scams.

In fact, it’s not Bitcoin that’s the problem, it’s the altcoins that are dragging Bitcoin through the mud with their bad reputation. Most of them, at least.

If that is what you are think then you are wrong. No altcoin is a threat to Bitcoin not even altcoins that are under the Bitcoin blockchain network. It will be a crime to compare Bitcoin to other altcoin talk more of saying an altcoin is a threat to Bitcoin. Did you see how altcoins were shaking when Bitcoin price dropped these few days. Every single movement Bitcoin made has been affecting altcoins in general. So you see Bitcoin controls the market that means it is a threat to other altcoins because it can displace any altcoin anytime any day.

An attack on Bitcoin is an attack on the entire crypto industry. Being the first cryptocurrency, it faced so many challenges that others didn't go through. The government might not be very interested in centralized coins because they can easily be controlled.

Bitcoin has no competition. Others can try to be like it but it has always been unfruitful. Bitcoin cannot be shut down by the government of any country, it is decentralized.

Some altcoins have received attacks from the government and some of them rightfully so. But regardless of that point, the reason why some altcoins receive attacks far more from the government than bitcoin is because a lot of them are centralized and is owned and created by a single entity that can be a point of attack unlike bitcoin that is completely decentralized.

When has bitcoin ever been subjected to the threat of shutting down? No one can really shut bitcoin down. Any government can only restrict use of bitcoin in their country but they can't shut the entire network down.

I have being giving this question a thought for days now, if other altcoins can be a threat to bitcoin especially ethereum

ethereum has not had its own independent community. just look at how much ethereum mirrored bitcoin 2021-2024

this was because bitcoin is the main coin and due to arbitrage opportunity of [USD:BTC][BTC:ETH][ETH:USD]..repeat
it allowed people to use ethereum just as a circuit/circular path back to bitcoin
meaning most of ethereums price action was due to bitcoins actions, ethereum doesnt really have its own economics to have its own major events to be different to bitcoin

you can see from 2021-2025 on the BTC:ETH chart that ethereum pegged its best rate at 1btc:12eth in 2022..

but then has been slipping and losing its quality of pairing and now sits at 1btc:40eth

so ethereum is slipping away and becoming less important

in short ethereum doesnt have:
its own community to give it its own speculative market
a strong peg-pair to bitcoin.
a worthy minting cost.. it went to PoS which meant underlying value support dropped by 95% so now has alot of room to fall.
any reason but bitcoin to explain why ethereum remains at a bubble high.

bitcoins underlying mining cost is strong giving it a strong value support so not far for bitcoin to really fall but alot of potential to rise

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both researched opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Bitcoin is never calling itself as a threat to altcoins, but oppositely and hilariously altcoins call themselves as threats to Bitcoin, like Bitcoin killers. More ironically, those altcoins killed themselves and died with time without any threat from Bitcoin.

The market is a fair referee and can help you to assess this fact very transparently and correctly. Altcoins died, even top altcoins and they did not die because of any pressure or competitiveness from Bitcoin. Main reasons are altcoin projects are zero or low quality, and their founders mostly abandoned their projects after months or years.

Ethereum lost its value in ETH/BTC pair, and it's not a threat to Bitcoin.
Don't buy altcoins because they are top altcoins.

Bitcoin's resilience and dominance in the crypto space are obvious. There's no doubt that despite skepticism from major institutions it continues to thrive. Its decentralisation and security make it unique.

Altcoins are not really a threat as they serve different purposes. Some altcoins aim to solve specific issues such as scalability or privacy which Bitcoin wasn't designed for.

Instead of seeing them as competitors I think both can coexist each serving different roles in the evolving crypto ecosystem. Bitcoin remains the ultimate store of value but altcoins bring innovation that pushes the entire space forward.

And I we also like to see more contributions from members of this forum, let prove to some folks out there that altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin, because alot of folks out there are saying that ethereum will be the end and the down fall of bitcoin, which I doubt.
For now I don't see any altcoin posing a threat to Bitcoin, at least for now, but we should not close doors for innovation. We can't determine what the future will look like entirely, and if cryptocurrency is still to be a thing, then the generation to come might/can come up with something with more problem-solving ideas that is out there, and technology is also advancing.

Not even a little bit of it is a threat to bitcoin. just look at how the market is moving now, when the price of bitcoin is positive, then the majority of altcoins will also move up. but when the price of bitcoin goes down, the majority of altcoins will also go down. that indicates that the majority of altcoins are influenced by bitcoin.

Bitcoin is very trusted. even when there are thousands of altcoins, none of them are a threat to bitcoin, because bitcoin already dominates the market and its value is much greater than altcoins.

I don't think other altcoins will be a threat to bitcoin but bitcoin is the greatest threat to altcoins. Bitcoin is moving on it own without any interference and the issue in bitcoin is demand and supply. Bitcoin has not follow any altcoins to go up and come down bit they do. Bitcoin is the only legit cryptocurrency that one can invest without fear and tremble.

If you are asking an investor that is not actually knowledgeable about bitcoin, the answer would definitely yes. He would prefer to allocate more funds into altcoins rather than sticking to bitcoin, because that’s what most of the crypto influencers have been trying to imply.

However, if you are asking an experienced investor that has been buying and hodling bitcoin for quite long years, he would tell that altcoins do not matter to bitcoin. Altcoins are just an option, and would never be a threat to bitcoin. Except if you want to diversify your bitcoin investment and want to invest a little into selected altcoins.

No altcoin had never been a threat to Bitcoin, not even one. I'm not just preaching Bitcoin because others do, but I'm saying it from my experience in the space, no other altcoin can survive the the criticism Bitcoin faced from it's inception and still dominate till this moment. Can't count the time the government placed many ban on the usage of Bitcoin in their countries, tagging Bitcoin to be scam on medium and many other allegations towards it, but Bitcoin passed through all these to be nominated to be used as national reserve service in many countries.

Altcoin cannot passed through all these and still stand, no altcoin can do that.
