Why bitcointalk.org is not as popular as it was in 2019

After 6 years I came back to the forum. frankly I didn't intend to enter this thread. but I wanted to talk after a hero member commented on my previous post. this site is not as popular as it used to be. 6 years ago not many people knew about bitcoin and everyone who knew was also visiting this site. many people have discovered bitcoin and alt coins but this site is not as attractive as it used to be. what do you think the reason is. i may be wrong but this is my opinion

In the past, people's knowledge about Bitcoin was very low and not many platforms offered Bitcoin services and the few that offered such services were not widely known, this made the quest for information to be on high demand and Forums related to Bitcoin and the entire cryptocurrency becomes the most sort after source of information as regards to cryptocurrency, another thing is that in 2018-2019 was the years of the first altcoins boom and at that many new projects were widely promoted here and there to create awareness, but now things have changed and investors now have more options as far as Information gathering is concerned.

Let me share my own ideas. It started after the merit system came. Frankly, I left it at that time. This platform never made an effort to attract new users. Those who roamed the forum like watchmen started to do more harm than good. Too many platforms were formed and Bitcointalk system administrators started to deal with users instead of improving themselves. I wouldn't be upset if they banned me from this site right now. Because this place doesn't add anything to people anymore. And the so-called administrators of this place are still trying to protect its antique values.

these social media platforms mentioned are not any better than bitcointalk though

many people have also discussions in these platforms but i would say that there is nothing as detailed and technical and accurate than here in bitcointalk so i would still say that this is the most superior one albeit now with social media, many people might not even go here in the first place

Additionally Bitcointalk has struggled with issues like spam, scams, and low-quality posts while the forum still has valuable content the presence of excessive advertising and bot-generated messages has driven many serious users away

you are right many newbies have come into the forum but do not bother to learn how to engage in the forum in a productive manner mainly because they are just hoping to make profit and get merits and they think about any kinds of posts will give them such

I cannot totally say that it isn’t popular right now because when I google last time about a certain post, bitcointalk was the first thing I saw. So it’s still popular until now, but maybe when this merit system came, a lot of newbies were discouraged and ended up leaving the forum. But that doesn’t lose the fact that there are still million users in the forum all over the world, and there’ll be a lot coming if this forum will be more attractive and impressive in the next years ahead.

Not google search that will let you know about this. You will need to compare this forum traffic now with the traffic it had in the past. I was unable to get the past traffic data but with what I have seen it the past, it declined. But we still have high amount of traffic monthly as a forum.

One of the reasons for the reduced traffic will be because of reduce in altcoins campaigns. Unlike that time that ICO was what crypto people are taking in the world.

You might be right about your observation, but you can't deny that Bitcointalk.org is still the most popular crypto forum in the world. It remains one of the best places to find reliable information, learn how to avoid scams, and discover good opportunities.

Maybe the activity has decreased because altcoins aren't as hyped anymore. Back in 2017 to 2018, altcoins had their own bull season, and a lot of people got scammed, which led to a decline in interest and fewer visitors to the forum.

If you're talking about the number of ppl visiting bitcointalk.org I'd like to see the stats you're looking at. The forum's full of traffic there's ppl posting in each board. Take a look at the local board section there's activity all over in the forum. You haven't given stats so I don't know which data you're extracting. I can't believe it's less popular unless you're sharing the data you've got.

I don't think you're wrong.TBH, bitcointalk is not that user-friendly especially for small screens which are more used. The forum also is unlike the popular social platforms with algorithms set to hook you more on their platform and decrease your attention span lol.

Bounties have also moved to other platforms. I reckon bounties have garnered huge chunk of popularity as well. Though, some folks may argue it could be for the best for less clutter.

Forum is still holding up well though seeing how companies are still here establishing their presence + plenty of discussions are still rolling.

There's a lot of possible reasons for this. Not least of which is that social media is already replete with Bitcoin or crypto-related contents. Twitter, for example, is a very handy and convenient source of crypto updates. Pretty much everybody is there-- from developers to news and magazines to influencers and so on.

Furthermore, messaging apps like Discord, Telegram, and the like have also grown to become a great place to talk about Bitcoin and crypto stuff.

As to more or less lengthy discussions, are people still interested with them or does it suffice that they're updated as to the latest news and developments? If discussions are still a thing, considering that people are mostly on their mobile phones and not on their laptops and desktops, perhaps those that have mobile apps are more attractive. Reddit, Quora, and other discussion platforms have mobile versions. As with Bitcointalk, you can't use it with one hand alone on mobile.

Nevertheless, Bitcointalk remains to be the most popular.

It's still popular as it is. But with the growing number of places where people can gather information, they're going to the other ones that they have found instead of the forum.

Guess what? The information that is found on the social platforms just came to Bitcointalk, and they're scattered all over the place.

And influencers making their own communities outside the forum, they are going there and anyone can do that as long as they have the knowledge about Bitcoin and crypto in general.

The forum was popular because bounty was still profitable, after it's not profitable, the traffic back to default.

Most people use their device are mainly for entertainment.

Facebook, Reddit, X, Tiktok and Instagram are full of entertainment, hence it drag people to stay there and make them addicted.

You can still make fun or jokes around in this forum, but the forum aren't mainly for entertainment, you can create topics about funny thing in Off topic board. But, the interaction in Off topic board is really low, do you want to spend effort without getting many feedback? usually people playing social medias because they want to get validation/interaction.

I've noticed how much the crypto world's changed, folks are chatting about it all over social media and new sites now. With Bitcoin and other coins going big, it's easier to find info everywhere. Places like this forum are great for deep talks, but they're not as busy as they used to be. I guess people are just vibing with crypto stuff differently these days.

Even though the landscape has changed this forum is still the go to place for everything crypto. I think the biggest reason for the shift is how the internet itself has evolved. People now prefer faster more interactive platforms over traditional forums. The merit system might have discouraged new users from engaging but it helped reduce spam. This forum still holds historical significance and remains a place for in-depth discussions that are harder to find elsewhere.

It was better for you to had made this post now rather than waiting until you rank up to hero because you would keep waiting. Or you can not imagine when you could rank to hero since you have stil been a junior member with just 1 merit in the past 6 years?
However, welcome back to the forum and then, I will say I don't think if this site is declining from gaining more popular because as you can see, there are more users being registered here now compared to the numbers in the past 6 years.
Interestingly, many late adoptors of bitcoin that are in this platform got inspired to accept it through their staying and visits of this platform. That is literally to say the bitcointalk is doing wonderfully well in spreading the awareness of bitcoin.
Watch very clearly too on daily basis new users are registered in the platform. That is just to say the platform is spreading and accommodating more users.
