The volatility of Bitcoin isn't really as high as other crypto currencies (altcoins) this makes them more stable compared to others. But you are right, investing in Bitcoin also puts you at risk of losing but the rate of the dip isn't going to exhaust your portfolio the way altcoins does.  To me this is one of the reason why Bitcoin is more invested in than any other crypto currencies in the market.
