I've been following the journey of Eala as well, she was recently the Champion of the WTA 125 Lexus Birmingham Open and now she's going to the QF of this Berlin Open, stunning the World's No. 2. That's quite a feat, I would say! She's like Nadal in the making...

I just checked again to confirm. Truly, she's no longer a newcomer. I see she's ranked world number #35 which is high because I consider anybody within the top 50 to be decent players if not spectacular but winning Rybikna is no small feat amd she should take the win because it's truly deserved.

There's a WTA tourney I watched recently where 1 underdog (probably Switolina) eliminated around three top 10 players to win the tournament. Hopefully Eala gets to achieve similar feat in this current tournament as well.

Who else is watching the Berlin Open? Another upset win for Alex Eala.. Alex Eala has advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating World No. 2 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in straight sets, 2-0. What's even more impressive is that Alex entered the tournament as a wildcard.
I haven't watched it but only saw it on the news that she's able to beat the world no. 2. That's actually big and that's why emotions on her really satisfies the fans on how she's able to win against the number 2.

In quarterfinals Alex will face Ukraine's Elina Mykhailivna, who is currently ranked No. 6 in the world. Hopefully, Alex can keep her winning streak going. Winning this Berlin Open would be a huge achievement for her and could become one of the biggest milestones of her career so far..
Cheering for her and hopefully she'll end this one too and making her rankings go up. It's proudful moment to see her thrive and climb up in the rankings. That's real hard work for her.

Just take it one at the time, it's not by far that she may experienced the same fate as she's really showing her best, personally for sure she feel that something that she already achieved after beating the number 2, it'ssomething  that every players will cherish for the rest of their careers, though it's still too far to celebrate, quarterfinals is another game to win to move forward, let see if how far or let's pray that she may able to push forward and hopefully win the crown.

Another major upset happened, and she beat the number 2 player 2-0, that was intense man. Eala, even if she will not win this tournament, her ranking will certainly improve already.

Feels like she has a lot of stamina, she did not look tired in the game and her return was quite amazing, though we cannot see it on the face of Elena Rybakina, for sure she was frustrated with her performance and could not accept what happened to her in that game.

Next opponent is Elina Svitolina who is currently ranked 8, hope it is another win for her.

I just found out about the news while browsing my Facebook account.

My God! She is really awesome. Truly, it is better if she wins it all, but even if she doesn't, she now has a place with the tennis fans. She is still young, there's still a lot of room for improvement, and I agree that her stamina is truly phenomenal. I guess that's the perks of being young, I mean, we should know it, especially the athletes in their younger days.

Still, this is a big achievement, and maybe now they will show some respect and avoid underestimating her. Cheesy
She loves making big upsets. Maybe I should also look at the lines on how much the odds are.

I was surprised on this big upset since Rybakina is much tougher compared to Jovic that beaten Alex easily. I just noticed that Rybakina is not on perfect form ever since she won her recent major title. She is not even trying to save a ball although her serve and hit speed is still the same monster level. Alex improves a lot.

There’s still a lot of big players especially her next opponent Elina Svitolin which is a monster too and currently on momentum.

This tournament will give Alex a good experience fighting tough opponents.

Wait, is Aryna Sabalenka also in this tournament?

What if Eala wins tonight and she will face Aryna Sabalenka, that would be a big matchup for her, imagine beating the number 1 also, that would really make her popular in the world. I will be tuning in to this game for Eala tonight, even if it is already midnight in my timezone, I just want to see if she can pull another upset here.

She is really in the tournament, in fact she is already playing now against Bartunkova who is not really much of a challenge based on the ranking since she is only ranked 62.
But of course we never know, an upset could still happen just like what Eala did.

Not sure if that would be her next matchup, but let us take it one step at a time since her opponent now is currently ranked number 8. As per bookie offers, Eala remains the underdog, but not a heavy one, bookies probably gave respect to her after what she did last night to Elena.

Looks another major upset is happening, Bartunkova  is up 4-1 in the first set now.

By the looks of it, it is 90% happening tonight.

Bartunkova won the first set, and now in the 2nd set she is already up 3-0.

I can see the frustration on the face of the number 1 ranked player, this does not look good for her.
I think she will not be able to come back in this game. ( 4-0 now..)

And here goes the good news[1], Alex Eala won against ranked 8 Elina Svitolina. It's giving the proud and pride with her even by just watching and seeing her beat these top ranking players. Alex is now in the rank of 35 and it seems down as of the moment but, the last time I checked on her before these games was she's around 60+ rank I think.

I'm happy for Eala, it's always good to see a new star in the making, it gives excitement to the game, more people would love to watch her and see if she keeps the momentum which is not a small task especially as she's going against far more experienced players than her. She's still the underdog nonetheless and her opponents would still be considered as favorites until she truly proves herself that she's not a one time star that will shine for a season then diminish. I'm not much into tennis but I'll be sure to look into her games maybe risk some bets on her as I'm wishing her the best and I hope that she reaches the peak in tennis.

Yeah right, it's another opportunity after winning the quarter finals, now she's going to against the #13 world rank, Linda Noskova let see if that strong serve will continue as Alex really improves with his strong strokes, hopefully she's able to win it again and move forward to the title match, that would be another great addition to her awards, though it's too early for that but the experienced and the enjoyment that we are seeing in her, she's really out there to showcase everything that she has.

Next opponent is Elina Svitolina who is currently ranked 8, hope it is another win for her.

I agree, that she's exciting to watch and many non tennis fans are starting to follow her journey. That's because she's bringing a lot of things to our country aside from the pride and the victories that she's winning. She may not be a favorite for now in the actual tournament and remains as an underdog. But that's okay as this underdog is lovely and we're cheering for her while watching her beating top rank players.

Alex Eala does again the upset by defeating Elina Svitolina. She dominated both Rybakina and Svitolina without losing a set. This not an upset anymore if she already proven beating high rank player consecutively.

Clearly she is on the zone. I’m excited to see the finals with Sabalenka in case she will manage to beat her opponent on semis.

She choke before after defeating Iga to a much lower rank player.

We have seen that, she was stable in the 2 sets she won.

Now she is in the Finals, she will be facing the rank 13, there should be less pressure on her since she already beat the rank 2 and rank 8, we will be seeing this game at 8 PM PH time.

Meanwhile, the other semi is already live, currently Pegula is leading 1-0, and in the 2nd set she is also leading but it is close, but the game is on pause now due to rain.
I hope it will be able to resume soon so we will not have to wait until midnight just to watch Eala again.

It's sad that Alex has to end her journey in the Berlin Open. She lost[1] against Noskova.  Undecided
What are the next tournaments that Alex will be joining? I'm sure that many are going to follow her journey now and the tournaments that she's going to participate. I hope that she gives inspiration to the young aspiring tennis players in the country.

Immediately I saw that matchup, I knew it wouldn't be easy. Not saying the matches she eliminated 2 of the WTA top 10 was easy but if we judge from the tournament so far, it's easy to see that Noskova was in a terrific form heading into this game. Players like Rybakina whom Alex defeated haven't been in form for like the last 2-3 tournaments they have participated. Hope to see Eala soon competing in WTA tourneys. I hoped she would be the dark horse but unfortunately, she wasn't.

I agree, it's not her day and Noskova was in the better shape today. And that's okay, Alex did well and far from this Berlin Open and we'll get to see more of her for her upcoming tournaments and opens that she's going to join.

Hope to see Eala soon competing in WTA tourneys. I hoped she would be the dark horse but unfortunately, she wasn't.
We all had thought of but unfortunately, she has lost to a better player this time.

That game was pretty much dominated by Noskova, seems like she knows how Alex plays very well and she had a good return to beat her almost every time Alex served.

Now we are in the Finals, Noskova will be tested against the number 4 ranked Pegula.
I think it is possible we can see an upset here, but I trust Pegula in this match since she has the better ranking.
We all had thought of but unfortunately, she has lost to a better player this time.

She needs to improve, that's all.

Still as a Filipino, this is a huge accomplishment for Alex beating the world number 2 and it will give her move confidence now to at least win WTA. Remember that our country hasn't produce a athlete in tennis that can compete in world standard but Alex change it now.

So let's just hope that in every tournament she's in, at least she can win one of those trophy's to really put the country in the map. We have seen that she has gain a lot fans not just Filipinos for her fighting spirit.
