There is no "the best possible way". There is only luck. If you are lucky enough to have an experienced trader among your relatives or friends, then this is the only way to get a mentor.

The mentor himself should tell you that he is ready to teach you. But I don't think that strangers will want to waste their time teaching a competitor for themselves. Even for a fee. I believe that only a close person can become a mentor, in some sense a trading partner, who will benefit from teaching you as an assistant, for example. But for this, "all the stars must align".

To be mentored is to receive help and support from an experienced person to aid yourself to grow and develop as an efficient and effective trader. For this to happen, you need to have a face-to-face conversation with your mentor so he can assess you and pinpoint the things that you need to enhance and develop so you will be a successful trader in the near future.

Mentorship without letting know the mentor itself is making him clueless. Yes, you can secretly follow him but you will never receive the right assistance that you need as a beginner trader.

Following a mentor anonymously without their knowledge will make it difficult for you to develop because you will always be in their shadow due to your high hopes for what they do. The best option is to tell them, you will get full guidance from him if he is willing.
You should not follow a mentor randomly because it will make things difficult for yourself due to the gap in knowledge about trading. You also need to be independent by learning the basics of trading, there are many members here who are knowledgeable about trading, in my opinion, making one of the leading forum members as a mentor would be better than choosing a mentor outside the forum.

Not all mentor teach all of their knowledge to those who want to learn with them. We still need to search for the other information that we need besides of learn from them. Our needs in trading will be different than what the mentor have so that is why we must search for the other resources and learn more.

You can learn the basic of trading for the first but you should learn from other sources to improve your skill. If you get more information that is useful for you, that will give you a chance to have a better skill.

You can telling that person that you use his lesson and follow that person. Trading will be personal decision and that will not related to the mentor because we make our decision to trade. The mentor is just teach the things related to trading while we need to learn many more about trading.

I feel either ways you tend to go about it it's fine but one need to know that choosing a mentor means a lot and you don't just take up decisions on your own in they regards, I would say one can choose a mentor without meeting or knowing them. That's to say they stay at their distance and follow their guidelines probably online but it's better of to walk up to such persons and open up your mind in making them your mentor. That way it gives you access to their mentorship and tutorship guidelines.

Trading need that you have someone to guide you as a mentor, not just that the person should mentor you, but he should follow you up in all your trading journey. Every trader should have someone he is accountable to especially when you have not mastered your emotions. In selecting you mentor, you would need to check his trading history if he is a profitable trader. He should also know how to communicate knowledge or impact knowledge to another person, he should be someone you can respect.
