This is the best thing a potential leader can do to give hope for his followers, which is what Trump did to paused the tariff policy, because the policy is affecting many companies and citizens negatively already. I guess the U.S president pay attention to many channels about the complain of the citizens and their living concerning the tariff, because if the tariff continue, it will cause so many hardship in the country that will make people to rate the past administration as a savour to them if this tariff continue.
If Trump was as capable and talented a leader as you think he is, he should have realized from the beginning that his indiscriminate imposition and tax increases would affect people's lives. He should have been aware of that before making any decisions, not just imposing a bunch of tariffs and then suddenly stopping and saying it's because he cares about people's lives. That is not the thinking and actions of a great leader. I know that China government will not worry too much about the tariff, because they have many policies that will make their economic not to be reduce by U.S tariff. I believe that China will not give in because they also have their own trump cards to deal with Trump's bullying, but they are worried because the tariff war is not beneficial to both sides. Trade wars only slow down their economies and no government wants that.

This is looking more funny as China choose not to back down increasing their own tariff. This is looking more serious and we never expected this much. China does not import more of Americans goods but the Americans depends more on China which is why this is going to hit more for the US. The price of groceries are going to be more expensive soon with the 84% in tariff. Probably the prices of gadgets, raw material, clothes, groceries, and accessories will shoot up high if the two countries do not come to negotiation.

What is the best thing about the tariff policy of the US? That it is as inconsistent as anything else produced by the current administration. Trump is in a hurry to impress everybody with his America First policy—first the migrant, now the tariff wars. Tariffs had been in place for decades until Trump made a disruption. He is doing an experiment with these policies and in return also harming the American. And all of this happens in his four months in office. I think we need to brace for the worst. Trump is indecisive and unpredictable. I wonder what's next.

What happened Navarro, Lutnick, et al bleating "this is not a negotiation" for the last week or so?
Rhetorical question of course. Morons crashed the market, got reprimanded by fellow billionaires, and quickly "fixed" what didn't need breaking to begin with. Fart of the deal.
I am pretty sure that there was some serious insider trading going on. Meanwhile, this was the attitude of maga-hats just moment ago: And franky1, trump is talking, media is reporting about it. If trump is incoherent, or wants to be cryptic about it, don't blame media for reporting what he says. Only who never wanted to negotiate in the first place was Donald Trump, and who knows how dumb his terms are going to be and why would people accept them? Why would you think he would make any better deals then he has done in the past? Or maybe he don't remember what deals were made by him?

media is not reporting everything.. ever heard of clickbait, provocative journalism? if you want to just take media's clipped short quotes as gospel then you are not understanding the full context of most quotes.. thats where you have to do your own research as media are crap at investigative journalism, they just want the quick quote and use it to create click bait emotionally provocative stories using their own bias opinions of interpretation even months ago trump has been saying most of the time that tariffs are a good tool for negotiations of other things that can benefit america remember how he wanted to implement tariffs on mexico to help negotiate terms to get them to secure the US southern border to prevent migrants. remember how he wanted to use tariffs on canada to help negotiate how canada can further secure the US northern border to prevent drugs trafficking of fentanyl compounds did you forget so soon? tariffs were always aimed at being a negotiation tool of political partnership deals of things unrelated to just goods transfer fees also if you foolishly think its just trump waking up and shouting a random number for a tariff and tweeting it. you really are sounding silly.. trump is (and its public information) talking daily to his cabinet and they are the ones at the negotiation table, taking calls from countries much like how media want to present that all doge stuff is elon.. even the email asking fed employees what 5 things they did for work last week. reality is that it was the office of personnel management that sent the emails and were working in partnership with each departments heads which is whom the employees had to reply to.. not elon and no thy were not fired on the spot, they were given severance should they choose to take it, giving them a wage until september hope that clarifies points you didnt pick up on from whatever media source you use.. .. still think media are the source of gospel truth, just look at the numerous times they got details of bitcoin completely wrong over the years

I wonder if Trade Tariff's was/is Trump's only strategy to MAGA?
I recon the continual fall. and sell off of the markets particularly the bond markets really put the frighteners on him because traditionally he tracked his great progress by the progress of the markets.
I also recon that someone possibly Musk pleaded with him to stop because of the damage he was doing?
Countries "kissing his ass" to negotiate, maybe/maybe not.

I know Donald Trump promised to make America great again, but will it be achieved by stampeding other countries and project them to suffer at their own fate? This whole tariff drama is a total mess, and i hope Donald Trump will learn after this tariff wars. Pausing tariffs for 90 days? isn't this whole thing becoming ridiculous, why also trying to punish China or is the US trying to fight war against China? I don't even know if Donald Trump has personal advisers because he really needs to calm down and know that he just his government is still young to start making decisions that will affect the other countries.

trump has to do negotiations with (currently 75 willing countries), which takes time.. however he wants an answer from china now
so knowing its going to take upto 90 days to get through the current 75 countries negotiations he has done them a favour by not forcing them into the new deal before they can negotiate..
however again trump wants china to come to the negotiation table now, not in upto 90 days
You are the king of childish responses. "He" is not going to be in 75 negotiations, there will be a few teams in each region that will do something that they could and should have done anyway without having to cause a market caos, scare investment and create a problem for everyone. This is what happens when you get a text-book narcissist in a government. you missed many things AS USUAL its about countries COMING TO THE US's NEGOTIATING TABLE and meet with the US cabinet and other departments, which trump also wants to be in the room for south korea was already on a plane yesterday, as was japan. italy will visit next week and a schedule being set up for the rest its not about both side just agreeing on a number. its about the other countries coming up with unique deals of things that might interest trump. "tailored tariff deals" their message to foreign counterparts seems simple: If they have a unique card to play, they should. Ideas being discussed run the gamut, and include possible action on securing the freedom of Americans wrongfully detained abroad, committing to working with US artificial intelligence companies, buying more US energy or combatting global drug trafficking, according to five people familiar with the brainstorming sessions. if you think a bunch of US guys(as YOU childishly do) are going to travel to 75 countries at the foreign table.. you missed the whole point, not just many.. you missed them all trumps negotiation table is seats for Trump, Vance, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of Homeland Security, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, U.S. Trade Representative, Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, and the Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing heck if countries have a playing card for Defense contracts then the DoD will be at the table too Again, childish untought responses... what a surprise. Again, you do not need a "Ruin-nation" day to bring partners to a negotiating table, you just pick-up the phone and ring them. You do not need to permanently damage the credibility of the US - which costs years to build - nor create disruptions in the supply chains, nor flah-crash the market (I am guessing Trump and other may have perfectly taken the ocasion to flash-short x 100 leverage and make millions in some hidden fiscal haven). There is no need to send a "mafia" message in public with a stupid board and put 100% tariffs on Leshoto (a minimal country with no access to the sea in the middle of Africa ) to negotiate. All this has been a miserable PR excercise paid at the expense of the reputation of the US and the funds of many pensioners, savers and taxpayers. The most expensive stunt to date.

what the child above doesnt realise is other countries had tariffs on america first.. and even in last trade war other countries tariffs were higher than america. so its not america waging war as a first strike.. its actually america trying to get to a mutual benefit scenario ceasefire just crap media are mis informing people to pretend that america pulled the first trigger
anyways 75 countries already been making the calls to the US with offers, and now they are coming to america to do in-person deals to shake hands and sign agreements which cant be done over the phone
i can tell your relationships have only been remote/long distance.. but the real world wants and needs to meet up to make things official.. as thats how real grown up relationships are formed
i truly hope, and take this sincerely. that one day in the future you actually do finally meet face to face with a woman and go on a planned date and make the relationship official, and experience a real relationship whereby you can then compare it to the current online situations you have experienced/paid for
you may actually realise that real world relations offer cheaper, easier mutual benefits that are better then you have had so far long distance EG. relationships that last longer, are strong and dont status change swiftly/harshly with just a tweet but instead require actual real world face to face discussion and communication
then i truly hope.. you have someone that inspires you to escape your local situation. escape your only experience of the world being whatever media tells you. and instead go explore the world. learn different cultures, learn what the world looks like from your own view, not that of an opinion media told you.
you will learn alot from real world experiences instead of relying on media to tell you their opinion of the world

It's quite lovely how you rant about media misinformation and then parrot white house and right wing media talking points with no thought whatsoever, all on the same page here. By no means ever try to ask yourself, which countries are coming and what they're signing and why would they sign anything, let alone anything beneficial to the US when they can clearly see Trump caving as soon as someone tells him that bond selloff is a bad thing... a much better option is to talk to China or Japan, the countries holding the US by the proverbial balls, who also happen to not have a tantrum-prone toddler in charge. OTOH, if they can negotiate some sort of deal by promising to hang paintings of Trump (shirtless on a horse for extra discount) in their streets, more power to them. Paid for by american taxpayers either way.

china dumping US bonds bad? ha.. you do know that now china dont have as many hands on the US now and as said japan is coming to the negotiation tableand i have not nor ever have just repeated a media puff piece like a zombie puppet im not the one that is misunderstanding things based on a bias.. im not even american. so my mind isnt about supporting dem or rep.. my mind is about looking behind the clickbait, looking beyond the headlines and looking at the detail beneath YOU seem to have pre-chosen a side. and now only looking for things that suport the side you chose. you are not interested in finding the fact/detail. you just want to find media pieces that support the side you pre-chosen you are the one that takes one media story as gospel.. someone corrects you, so you find another media story zombie-sheep repeating the same story. so you think that means it must be true if 2 media outlets say the same thing you prefer.. never realising they are both just copy and pasting stupidity without doing their own investigative journalism.. you need to learn how to do proper research and not just take media's word as gospel echo chambers are not proof of original story. they are just a circle jerk of each other copying each other learn how to look beyond the circle jerk, dont just join it

LOL that's exactly what I was talking about, the irony of copy-pasta from CNN aside, the "offers" are basically the equivalent of a shirtless Trump on a horse. Like the one where Canada said yeah we'll help with fentanyl, which there is barely any coming from Canada, and Mexico send yeah we'll do something-or-other-that-we-were-doing-anyway-but-will-make-it-sound-like-Trump's-wish. you need to learn how to do proper research and not just take media's word as gospel
Good point. Have you concluded the research of the tariff formula's divisor yet?

Losing money is good when it happens by losing corruption. And that is what Trump is doing to the US government and the world. He is stamping out corruption. Help him. Don't hinder him, or you just might go down with the corruption. I don't see how a well known corrupt individual will fight corruption. A president who surrounds himself with businessmen cannot genuinely tackle corruption. It is suspected that Trump and his followers are using the tariff spat to profit from market manipulation.

media is not reporting everything.. ever heard of clickbait, provocative journalism?
if you want to just take media's clipped short quotes as gospel then you are not understanding the full context of most quotes.. thats where you have to do your own research as media are crap at investigative journalism, they just want the quick quote and use it to create click bait emotionally provocative stories using their own bias opinions of interpretation
You know that everyone can see what he posts and says? Full quotes exist and you can always post them as counter argument. But this magical hidden context argument is hilarious. During his last term i actually watched unedited speeches original tweets. That was worst waste of my time. Because if you have stomach to watch his ramblings on an on, you know it just gets surreal how crazy he is, and media definitely tunes the craziness down. And turned out that all those people shouting "mainstream media lies" never even listened him, or read his tweets any more then media reported. They all just thought media was lying, because he is just too crazy to be true. And yeah, media lies. Like biggest and most mainstream media out there called Fox. It's almost as blatant as north-korea state media. Just don't drag all the media on the same trump conformist lying category. That's just dishonest and lazy -cut- remember how he wanted to use tariffs on canada to help negotiate how canada can further secure the US northern border to prevent drugs trafficking of fentanyl compounds
did you forget so soon?
tariffs were always aimed at being a negotiation tool of political partnership deals of things unrelated to just goods transfer fees
How many percent of that fentanyl comes from Canada? Negotiation brilliance right there. And he literally said that this wasn't a negotiation, and every maga-hat believed him. And turns out it wasn't, it's just market manipulation and insider trading. Every other theory does make zero sense, but then again so does his statements.

Seems that China is placing tariffs on the US to the tune of 125%. Personally, I think both the US and China are playing this game too weakly. They both should go all the way... like a billion percent. This might stop trade between the countries. A bunch of corruption will get cleaned up. And both countries will have to start producing things that they are trading for, now, with in-country manufacturing. The question is, which country would be stronger, then? The US can free up the regulations on things. Free people are stronger than slaves, generally. It might take a little to get going in this direction, but the US will be stronger in their peoples' freedom. China Escalates With 125% Tariff On US Imports, Signals Will "Ignore" Future Retaliation https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/china-escalates-125-tariff-us-imports-signals-will-ignore-future-retaliationIn a notable shift, the Chinese Communist Party announced it would "no longer respond" to any further tariff increases from Washington. As the week concludes, the U.S. and China are locked in a heated, once-in-a-century trade war. Earlier, President Trump announced a 90-day suspension of additional country-specific tariffs for countries that have refrained from taking retaliatory measures—an apparent attempt to isolate China and use tariffs to get Beijing to strike a trade deal. The State Council Tariff Commission announced that China will raise tariffs on U.S. goods from 84% to 125% effective Saturday. The move comes in direct response to President Trump's effective tariff rate on Chinese imports, which now totals a whopping 145%. "Given that at the current tariff level, there is no market acceptance for U.S. goods exported to China. If the U.S. continues to impose tariffs on Chinese goods exported to the U.S., China will ignore it," the council said. In a separate statement, the Commerce Ministry expressed, "Even if the U.S. continues to impose higher tariffs, it will no longer make economic sense and will become a joke in the history of the world economy." In what appears to mark a pause in the escalation of the bilateral tariff war, Beijing has shifted toward non-tariff retaliation—limiting Hollywood film imports, slowing rare earth export shipments, and allowing the yuan to weaken. "This is the end of the escalation in terms of bilateral tariff rates. Both China and the U.S. have sent clear messages, there is no point of raising tariffs further," said Zhiwei Zhang, president and chief economist at Pinpoint Asset Management, quoted by CNBC. Wall Street analysts have already trimmed sales estimates for Apple and Tesla in China, the world's second-largest economy. Meanwhile, speculation mounts that Beijing may have quietly reduced its holdings of U.S. Treasury bonds as part of its broader counteroffensive. Zhang noted that assessing the U.S. and China's economic fallout will be next. He emphasized there are no indications that either government is preparing to reenter negotiations. Meanwhile, early signs of supply chain disruptions have been reported: Amazon Cancels Orders, Walmart Pulls Forecast As Tariffs Take Hold Chinese Sellers On Amazon Panic After Trump's Tariff Bazooka Goldman analysts Andrew Tilton, Hui Shan, and others lowered their China GDP forecasts because of the trade war: "We are revising our real GDP growth forecasts for 2025 and 2026 downward to 4.0% and 3.5%, respectively, from our previous projections of 4.5% and 4.0%." ...
Desperate China Pleads with E.U. to 'Jointly Resist Unilateral Bullying' of Trump Tariffs https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2025/04/11/desperate-china-pleads-with-e-u-to-jointly-resist-unilateral-bullying-of-trump-tariffs/Chinese President Xi Jinping made the call as he met Spanish Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. State news agency Xinhua said Xi had stressed the need for cooperation between the bloc and China in weathering Beijing's mounting trade war with Washington. It came 24-hours after Australia rejected the same plea from Beijing, as Breitbart London reported. "China and Europe should fulfil their international responsibilities… and jointly resist unilateral bullying practices," Xi said, AFP reports. This, he stressed, would not only "safeguard their own legitimate rights and interests, but also… safeguard international fairness and justice." The AFP report notes Sanchez, in turn, told a press conference following his meeting with Xi that tensions over trade should not impede cooperation between the European Union and China. Spain buys about 45 billion euros ($49.1 billion) of goods every year from China, its fourth-largest trading partner, but sells around 7.4 billion euros' worth. "Both Spain and Europe have a significant trade deficit with China that we must work to rectify," he admitted. But, he said, "we must not let trade tensions stand in the way of the potential growth of the relationship between China and Spain and between China and the EU". ...

Trump does not really know the consequences of this tariff hike for the American citizens since they export almost everything. This is looking more funny as China choose not to back down increasing their own tariff. This is looking more serious and we never expected this much.
I guess he somewhat anticipated the outcome of the war but perhaps what surprised him was that China did not surrender and that made things worse than he thought. Trump underestimated Xi Jinping.
The current tariff Trump is imposing on Chinese goods is 145% and this will hurt both US consumers and Chinese businesses. People keep saying that China will be the loser because they export more but that also means that the US is also very dependent on Chinese goods. So with such high tariffs, if the government does not provide alternatives, American consumers will be the ones who suffer the most in this war. This would also negatively impact US GDP, not just China.

Depending on how bad it is, for some time after it is fixed there is pain. Same with correcting the corruption and inequities of foreign nations against the USA, and, of course, the USA against those other nations. Once the corruption is corrected, things will work better than ever, even though the correcting process hurts a little.
