This. Definitely agree: BTC is no fiat killer.

It's an option for those willing to invest their time and effort for it.
That's not entirely the case why bitcoin is created although many people did think that bitcoin id created to replace bitcoin but it isn't true. You can say that it is an alternative to fiat where no third party or a government for example is behind it. In my opinion why many people are investing in bitcoin is because many people make it as an investment opportunity when it's uses isn't actually for investment but since bitcoin's volatility then people use that volatility for a chance to earn profit hence why many people invested in bitcoin.

That's not the target BTC put ahead of itself, but the one it accomplishes still because people see it as the one to fit BTC, currently.

Maybe, in the future, it would change, we may never know how crypto space would look in a year, let alone a decade or so.

Bitcoin was born in the ashes of the 2008 global financial crisis—a direct challenge to central banks, fiat money, and non-transparent systems of control. It was literally the money of misfits, visionaries and hackers who believed in freedom through code. Fast forward to today, financial institutions are offering Bitcoin ETFs, governments are buying and hodling Bitcoin, corporate treasuries are stacking sats, and regulators are cautiously stepping in.

So here is the tension, has Bitcoin’s revolutionary edge been delayed by its growing acceptance? Or is this just the next phase of the resistance, one where Bitcoin quietly penetrates the system from within and then bending it towards something better?

What do you all think please?

Does mainstream adoption compromise Bitcoin’s fundamental values and principles?

Is this integration necessary to bring about real change?

Can Bitcoin remain radical if it becomes the new financial standard?

Please drop your thoughts. Curious to see where the plebs, the OGs, and the new blood stand on this one.

Well, I think Bitcoin is far from being mainstream. Even though it reached popularity over time, a large portion of the world's population still haven't heard about BTC or even used it before. Of course, ETFs, governments getting involved in Bitcoin, and whatnot, brings the old economic system into Bitcoin (something Satoshi meant to avoid in the first place). It raises centralization risks in the long run. But what if this marks the beginning of Bitcoin replacing Fiat as the standard unit of account? Then, BTC would've already won its battle against banks.

In a "hyperbitcoinized world", Bitcoin would be the sole currency (global currency) used for the payments of goods and/or services. At least, that's how I envision it. Wouldn't it be great to participate in such "decentralized economy"? No more governments or central banks manipulating the supply for their own benefit. They will hold BTC, but they won't be able to control it (separation of money from the State). If BTC doesn't replace Fiat, then it would've failed. Am I right?

They will hold BTC, but they won't be able to control it (separation of money from the State).

What would a decentralized world without governments and banks look like? It will be a world of inequality, chaos, fraud and rampant social evils...and I call it herd life and our world will return to the primitive era instead of the modern world. On the contrary, I never expected that to happen and I considered it the end of the world.

If BTC doesn't replace Fiat, then it would've failed. Am I right?

I disagree, Satoshi did not create Bitcoin to replace fiat, it was just an alternative because he also knew well that replacing or eliminating fiat and banks is impossible.

By the way, I'm quite confused that none of us use bitcoin as a currency, we just use it as a speculative asset to get rich. At the end of the day when we reach our profit target we will convert to fiat, why do we expect it to replace fiat?

I think the first second you bought bitcoin you're already in for the decentralization world because you converted your fiat to a crypto.

I don't think bitcoin become mainstream will make it less relevant, instead it means there's alternative in this world that people can choose.

Even though big financial institutions and governments are holding BTC, the blockchain is still as decentralized as ever.

And with enough mainstream going for it, people would know it's a good alternative, not some ponzi scheme by any chance.

Bitcoin was born in the ashes of the 2008 global financial crisis—a direct challenge to central banks, fiat money, and non-transparent systems of control.
But since then people for some reason forgot about all this and are waiting for bitcoin to be accepted by the government and financial organizations. That is, all those regulatory bodies against whom bitcoin was created. How quickly values change, don't it

It was literally the money of misfits, visionaries and hackers who believed in freedom through code.
This was the money of those who believed in freedom and independence.

Fast forward to today, financial institutions are offering Bitcoin ETFs, governments are buying and hodling Bitcoin, corporate treasuries are stacking sats, and regulators are cautiously stepping in.
Bitcoin is increasingly ceasing to be what it was created to be.

So here is the tension, has Bitcoin’s revolutionary edge been delayed by its growing acceptance?
Because of money. Any ideals and values are sold. It's only a question of price. Unfortunately. It becomes sad to look at a world where they deviate from the original principles.

Or is this just the next phase of the resistance, one where Bitcoin quietly penetrates the system from within and then bending it towards something better?
If only that were so. I doubt it.

What do you all think please?

Does mainstream adoption compromise Bitcoin’s fundamental values and principles?
I think yes.

Is this integration necessary to bring about real change?
I expect changes not for the better.

Can Bitcoin remain radical if it becomes the new financial standard?
Bitcoin is becoming more and more refined.

True. Holding Bitcoin allows you to participate in the decentralized world of crypto. As a word of advice, try to acquire Bitcoin outside of centralized exchanges (non-KYC P2P trading platforms, decentralized exchanges, etc). That way, you won't let governments know you own BTC. Despite Bitcoin's rising popularity, I believe it's still far from becoming fully mainstream.

Like I've said before, there are many countries with limited or no Internet access. Most people haven't either heard about or even used Bitcoin before. In other words, a large percentage of the world's population hasn't "owned" or bought Bitcoin yet. I'd say we're still in the "revolution phase". Even if centralized institutions are dominating the market. It won't be long before full decentralization will be realized. Who knows what surprises we'll find in the future?
