Bitcoin was born in the ashes of the 2008 global financial crisis—a direct challenge to central banks, fiat money, and non-transparent systems of control. It was literally the money of misfits, visionaries and hackers who believed in freedom through code. Fast forward to today, financial institutions are offering Bitcoin ETFs, governments are buying and hodling Bitcoin, corporate treasuries are stacking sats, and regulators are cautiously stepping in.

So here is the tension, has Bitcoin’s revolutionary edge been delayed by its growing acceptance? Or is this just the next phase of the resistance, one where Bitcoin quietly penetrates the system from within and then bending it towards something better?

What do you all think please?

Does mainstream adoption compromise Bitcoin’s fundamental values and principles?

Is this integration necessary to bring about real change?

Can Bitcoin remain radical if it becomes the new financial standard?

Please drop your thoughts. Curious to see where the plebs, the OGs, and the new blood stand on this one.

It will be funny to think that bitcoin would just have been accepted. Sometimes to revolutionize and change something does not happen in a day; the delayed acceptance, which is slowly growing, is all part of the process.

Bitcoin is not yet mainstream; it will be mainstream when it becomes a household name.

Has big tech? Look at Amazon, Google, Apple etc. When bitcoin's stopped averaging more than 30% per year for a few years, there'll still be a goldmine of alts that haven't got an ETF that can either act as sandboxed testnets for what bitcoin is capable of or provide separate utility elsewhere.

When innovation happens, it keeps being iterated over, improved on and forked.

That being said, the first and most secure Blockchain (Bitcoin) will set the precedent for everything that follows.

Bitcoin didn’t sell out. It grew up. That does not mean its soul vanished. It means it has worked out how to remain competitive over a long time. Early Bitcoin was indeed raw, anonymous, untouchable. But fire alone burns out. What we are witnessing now is not the revolution, but rather the gradual incorporation of a new system within the old one. Like it or not, you have to first live with the old before you can destroy it. And this consists of ETFs, rules, and global reserves.

Adoption does not mean that values disappear. It stretches them, sometimes painfully. Right now, the test is resilience. Can Bitcoin embed itself deeply enough into institutions, while resisting being neutered by them? Can the protocol outlast every attempt to tame it? Because that’s what makes it radical now. Not because it cries "fight the Fed," but rather because it silently causes fiat obsolete.

Still, let’s not lie to ourselves. It is bad when Bitcoin starts to be just another asset class and we overlook the peer-to--peer ethos, or censorship resistance, or financial autonomy.

Bitcoin is now mainstream, and the volume of people involved in bitcoin is really huge... The fact that the market cap reach 3Trillions talks by it self, andby the market cap we can understand the amount of users that are involved nowadays. Even we see some countries like El Salvador involved in bitcoin, so, we reach the no way back point, now bitcoin is popular and each day more people get involved in cryptos. And this is because cryptos offer some kind of freedom where we can close deals and make business with anyone around the world without involving the governments, and that's the cool side about cryptos.

Its still a revolution. It has gone mainstream as well because the strategy is that if they can't beat Bitcoin, they will join Bitcoin. The resistance is still there although it has gone mainstream, the fiat system will keep on fighting for its the only system that government has control over the currency.

There is no delay, the adoption is just slow And I don't think the resistance will die because countries are already launching digital cash and CBDCs.

As long as its core values are upheld, no matter how much time would be gone, it would be stil worth it to wait rather than to expect something glorious in a day or even a year.

Bitcoin wasn't supposed to be the revolution. Blockchain technology had to be the innovation, that would change the world of finance(and other industries). Bitcoin is just a bunch of numbers on a blockchain. Did blockchain technology succeed at becoming a high tech revolution?
I think the answer is NO(unfortunately). It turns out that the world doesn't really need blockchain technology to solve various problems.
Bitcoin and the altcoins are yet another financial instrument for speculation(buying low, selling high or vice versa).

Why would the world need said blockchain if they want something to be in full control of? Wink

Bitcoin adoption by institutions and government has increased centralization which is against the founding principles of the currency.

Bitcoin adoption has increased without mainstream adoption. So it don't think it will bring the necessary change. Rather it will just bring an increase in the value of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin was not designed to replace fiat. Rather, it is an alternative to the fiat system. Bitcoin and fiat will be used side by side in the global economic system for a long time.

I don't think it will ever lose its edge due to mainstream acceptance. I think of it as a precursor to it. What it could do is to increase the demand and make it more valuable along the way. At least the reason why it's good to use BTC with the decentralization and stuff is still there. It's comparable to other financial systems, and I would rather have a ledger than not be transparent with any transaction.

The values of BTC => it's price and speculations around it.

If they are there, then everything is going to be fine in the long run, no matter what we would see in the short term.

Does mainstream adoption compromise Bitcoin’s fundamental values and principles?
Bitcoin is bitcoin. No amount of acceptance will change its core however how people view bitcoin might change as it gets more mainstream. How people use bitcoin might sway into something else quite different than what was thought to be in the first place.
Quote
Can Bitcoin remain radical if it becomes the new financial standard?
The question should be whether will it be the new financial standard? Yes it is being more accepted now but will it really get to a point where fiat will no longer be used? At the end of the day, it will still be an alternative to fiat and most importantly it is not controlled by the central bank nor the government.

It's still quite unpredictable to forecast exact timelines for this.
IMO, becoming a global household name could happen more quickly as more people begin to hear about and use it daily, especially with its increasing integration into everyday financial services.
However, keep in mind that Bitcoin serves only as an alternative to fiat or central banks.  Thus, even as it gains mainstream acceptance, its core principles continue to set it apart from centralized alternatives.

When it goes mainstream, there are still people who use it and others who don't use it, same with companies as in a normal world with freedom, people and companies are free to choose what they want to use among many abundant options.

Bitcoin goes mainstream is quite optimistic future that I believe it will come with us. I only think of it that it won't mean 100% people globally including entrepreneurs and business companies will use Bitcoin. With freedom, there are always people who make their choice oppositely and against Bitcoin, but it's just fine. Bitcoin, altcoins, fiat currency, central bank system are all here for use to make our choices. They serve us one way or another and if we see one is best or good enough for our demand, we can pick it for use.

Bitcoin is already a household name in some developed world, especially if they have a high literacy rate. A research showed that about 89% of American adults have heard of Bitcoin. Which shows that Bitcoin is already a household name in the US. In other developing countries a large portion of their populations don't have idea about Bitcoin. I don't think anybody can accurately predict when Bitcoin will become a household name. Bitcoin adoption is still growing and hopefully more people will become aware and adopt it.

no one knows exactly when or up to what extent Bitcoin will reach i don't think 10 years ago anyone would have thought that trump would be interested in adding Bitcoin to the national strategic reserve so who knows what 10 years later have in store for bitcoin and its community

That's not entirely the case why bitcoin is created although many people did think that bitcoin id created to replace bitcoin but it isn't true. You can say that it is an alternative to fiat where no third party or a government for example is behind it. In my opinion why many people are investing in bitcoin is because many people make it as an investment opportunity when it's uses isn't actually for investment but since bitcoin's volatility then people use that volatility for a chance to earn profit hence why many people invested in bitcoin.
