Adam Back suggested that the emergence of quantum computing could force Satoshi Nakamoto to move their Bitcoin to protect it, revealing whether they are alive.[...] During an interview after a Q&A session at the “Satoshi Spritz” event in Turin on April 18, Back suggested that quantum computing may force Nakamoto to move their Bitcoin. That’s because, according to Back, Bitcoin holders will be forced to move their assets to newer, quantum-resistant signature-based addresses.
Back said that current quantum computers do not pose a credible threat to Bitcoin’s cryptography but will likely threaten it in the future. Back estimated that quantum computers may evolve to that extent in “maybe 20 years.”[...] Consequently, he suggested that Bitcoin should be prepared to switch to quantum-resistant signatures but only do so when necessary. He suggested a Bitcoin taproot-based implementation allowing addresses to switch to quantum-resistant signatures when needed.https://cointelegraph.com/news/quantum-computers-likely-to-reveal-if-satoshi-is-alive-adam-back

Why is the obsession over Satoshi seems like a season film to others which may never come to an end, Satoshi identity or not, we are already seeing Satoshi as we uses bitcoin in serving us it's purpose, but some doesn't know this, instead they keep wandering about on what is not possible, as long as bitcoin remains and it's network, we are fine.

quantum computers wont force satoshi to move it... .. but adam backs own employees will change bitcoin to ultimately have a fake fear of quantum to set a deadline that any coin left on legacy addresses needs to move to cludgy SW or TR else have funds locked and unspendable
yep adam backs employees want to remove legacy spending ability from bitcoin. so lets not blame IBM or google. this is blockstream trying to push legacy bitcoin users to move funds

Would you please give me a break with Satoshi and quantum computers Some people are having wild fantasies about quantum computers like some kind of oracle that can discover hidden secrets. If quantum computers are able to do what they claim, than bitcoin keys are going to be the last thing to be concerned about. Maybe Back is trying to advertise his own product that is not Bitcoin.

honestly what will even be the point? satoshi would not give away his bitcoins to you if you find him he is also not gonna magically rise rhe price of bitcoin his existence wouldn’t convince governments to go for bitcoin so why are we so keen on finding him? i think this is obsession that is not healthy anymore you can still use bitcoin without satoshi so why find him?

This quantum computing thing is kind of crazy, right? But the cool thing is that Bitcoin is already preparing for when this becomes a problem. If necessary, it will switch to a more secure system and remain strong. So, even if this is not a threat now, it already has a plan for when the time comes.
But would they be able to switch to a more secure system or would it be the same thing? I have my doubts.

I do imagine at some point in the future Satoshi had to have hid some Easter egg or something like a message to be found but only time will tell

Everyone fuck off with your "enough of this" topic shit. I know this question annoys people, most I couldn't give a shit less about, quite a few I absolutely do care for quite a bit..but either way..so fucking what. It's fascinating stuff. I've read every satoshi post 10x over, all his emails that have been shared etc..I find myself wondering too. Now I also recognize that Satoshi without question, planned his anonymity from day one, as well as his inevitable departure. Also that he would have a known wallet of great size he would never touch...how do I know this? It's essential to bitcoins success ..so I hope we never find out who satoshi is (likely a few "elite" cypherpunks imo) but it's still fun to wonder and this is a legit question as one day quantum computing will be here and everything will change, some stuff hardly, some stuff big time (encryption killer, for example)..then maybe we will see AI (no, AI doesn't exist what so ever rn, not even remotely close..or sorry, AGI..is not close to fruition, maybe never will be in our lives,AGI will be far more advanced than quantum computing could ever be..so

If Satoshi is alive, quantum computers would be the least of his concerns.
Perhaps he hasn't moved his bitcoins because he doesn't need them, or maybe he wants to protect his privacy.
His only options would be to try using mixers, but that would lead to a pursuit to uncover his identity.
The most daring option would be to gather all his bitcoins and distribute them to a batch of thousands of active individuals/addresses on the internet, sending BTC Strategically to each active user's addrs, with some of them being his own wallets. In this way, he could have millions to use without risking revealing his identity. It would be a historic move, although it would certainly influence the price if he doesn't do it in periods of time to avoid drastically influencing the market.

Adam Back suggested that the emergence of quantum computing could force Satoshi Nakamoto to move their Bitcoin to protect it, revealing whether they are alive.
I don't believe it will be reason. If a new technical solution enforced to keep Bitcoin blockchain and bitcoins safely against quantum computers and their attacks, what's needed is Bitcoin private keys to claim new Bitcoin private keys and new bitcoins in new technical generation. The current Bitcoin blockchain and corresponding bitcoins exist on this blockchain. I think it's misleading to say moving bitcoins from current Bitcoin blockchain to a new quantum-resistant blockchain. It's not like that.

More ridiculous crap. Quantum computing is still in its infancy and we have no idea how much it will evolve in the foreseeable future which is why BTC doesn't need such signatures based on such baseless statements.
Also, connecting all of this to Satoshi in this manner is just silly and dumb. We should focus on current issues rather than worry about this sort of nonsensical stuff if you ask me.

I think we need to see if quantum computer really work first. Big companies keep talking about quantum computing but they still have high error rates.
We need to see if this thing truly work then we'd worry later. Jensen huang said himself that quantum computing is still 15-30 years away, I'd trust the CEO of semiconductor company that has access to cutting edge technology. that's like really long time for crypto.

Do you think Satoshi are not aware of that? I am sure they (Satoshi) already know what they must do if everything start to change. That is not our business because we even don't know who Satoshi are?
The Bitcoin team will handle that if quantum computers come in the near (now). Satoshi still watching Bitcoin from out there without we know. So they know what is happen today and make many preparations.
So we don't have to worry and just secure our wallets with anything we can.

It's never going to happen.
If quantum computer exists many big giant companies will not make money again, Intel computer for example are building 12 core cpus every year with different clock speed and power consumption, this is a logic to keep themselves in business and make massive gains as possible.
If quantum computer comes these CPU companies will suffer, and since Nvidia and AMD are big giants they won't let this happen even if it can, people will abandon their Cpus and builds for quantum computers.
Dream again OP, it's never going to happen.

There is also a possibility that if Satoshi is alive, he has a separate Bitcoin holdings that warrant him of a luxurious life while not touching the one known by the public. Satoshi is a smart person we all see that, if he planned all this disappearance and not touching his millions of Bitcoin sitting in an address known by the public, he probably have made another Bitcoin address that is not linked with the one known by the publice and holds a good amount of BTC for personal use. Btw, I believe quantum computer is overhyped, I do not think it would be that destructive to securities when it is implemented. Remember as technology develop, digital security also develop. There is a huge chance that anti-quantum computer encryption will be created or developed even before quantum computer starts breaking digital securities.

Satoshi isn't going to be back, if he's going to be back and moves his funds it will be a big break for the entire community. Also, I have been hearing these quantum computers theories about how it'll change a thing about Bitcoin and now with Satoshi, let the man/gal/guys deserve their peace because it's already decided that he/she/they will never come back.

If there will be a time that Satoshi could have moved or even cash out his Bitcoin stash, it should be along the bull run. But we have seen a lot of bull runs already and no one is touching his Bitcoin. So I doubt that even if there is Quantum Computers to go after his Bitcoin or whatever exposes him, I doubt that he will resurface.
But it's good to hear that people are still obsessed with him. It really makes Bitcoin really turning into those kind of mysterious magic money in the internet. Nevertheless, for Bitcoin enthusiast, it's over now, we are all aware that Satoshi will not be known to the public and we already accept that fact.

I believe that if Satoshi is alive, he does not care about those bitcoin in his legacy address any more because he knows moving them will lead to traces which he never wanted that to happen. Therefore, it will be useless for anyone to think that would bother Satoshi. Satoshi is hundred step ahead of those concerned about his identity.
I have heard enough of the reveal of Satoshi Identity, and Quantum computer being a threat to bitcoin in future, and that gets me pissed off. Before Quantum computer will do any harm to bitcoin network, the devs would have strengthen the network security to avoid such attack.

While there's good analysis about which Bitcoin presumably mined by Bitcoin, there's no guarantee it's 100% true/accurate.
