THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BUSINESSMAN AND ENTREPRENEUR

The terms "businessman" and "entrepreneur" often  get use in a circle as if they have same meaning, actually they represent different mindsets and ideas. Let’s break down the key differences between the two:

       1. Definition and Focus
*****Businessman:
A businessperson is usually someone involved in commercial activities, primarily focused on managing established businesses. Their main job revolves around handling resources, boosting profits, and sticking to tried-and-true business models.
*****Entrepreneur:
An entrepreneur, on the other hand, is someone who spots opportunities and takes the leap to create new ventures or improve existing ones. They are innovative, take risks, and turns ideas into successful businesses or products.

       2. Innovation vs. Management
*****Businessman:
While businessmen might make improvements, their main job is always about good management and efficiency within existing structures. Their focus is sustaining and growing the business through conventional methods.
*****Entrepreneur:
Entrepreneurs are often viewed as innovators, motivated by a desire to tackle problems or fulfill unmet needs in the market or even creat problems

          3. Risk Attitude
*****Businessman:
Businessmen generally are more cautious in their approach to risk. They prefers stable, established markets and tend to optimize existing processes rather than diving into uncharted territory.
*****Entrepreneur:
Entrepreneurs accepts and takes more risks as they aim to create something fresh or reform existing markets. They’re often willing to take calculated risks to chase innovative ideas.

           4. Motivation
*****Businessman:
Many businessmen are financial success oriented. Their main objectives often center around profit making, increasing market share, and maintaining a competitive edge.

*****Entrepreneur:
While entrepreneurs also aim for financial success, their motivations often run deeper. They might be fueled by a passion for their ideas, a desire to make a difference, or a commitment to social change. Their goals can include personal fulfillment or addressing societal challenges.

             5. Growth Orientation
*****Businessman:
Businessmen typically concentrate on steady growth within their established markets, optimizing operations to ensure ongoing success. Their strategies often involve gradual scaling and sticking to tried-and-true methods.
*****Entrepreneur:
Entrepreneurs usually set their sights on rapid growth and scalability, constantly on the lookout for ways to shake up industries and dive into new markets. They’re often quick to adjust their strategies based on what the market tells them.

       6. Vision vs. Execution
*****Businessman:
A businessman usually works within a set vision, then trying to execute that vision effectively. They might not be the originator of the business idea, but they play a crucial role in keeping things running smoothly and profitably.
*****Entrepreneur:
Entrepreneurs, on the other hand, often develop their own vision and take charge of making it a reality. They actively steer their businesses and make key decisions that can influence the entire industry.

In summary
Both businessmen and entrepreneurs are important to the economy, but there're lots of difference between them, like in their approaches, mindsets, and definitions. Businessmen definitely focus on managing established companies and targeting success, whereas entrepreneurs pay attention to innovation and taking risks to create new ventures or transform existing ones. Recognizing these differences can shed light on the various ways individuals contribute to economic growth and progress.

My thoughts about entrepreneur and business is that the both are the same even if we try to bring a differentiation between them through there definition but it doesn't change how the same they are, so if entrepreneur spot opportunities what then did a business person see before going into that business?, the word spot seem to have been the discrepancy over this matter but I wish to let you no that both of them spot opportunities and not only one because if you are someone who want to aspire on business of course you cannot go without spoting the kind of business you can do or the one that give you more profit.

I agree, both are important and they have their strengths that complement each other. Someone can be a businessman but not all businessman can become entrepreneurs.

An entrepreneur must have the knowledge of business he is venturing into after spotting what is missing in his environment. You can't just wake without having the idea of the business and jumpinto it. Entrepreneur and a businessman is almost similar in everything, but the difference is that the entrepreneur will make more money because he will be the only one setting up such business in his environment.

However, a businessman can also set his business in a good location and employ someone professional in that field to manage the business.

You have made sense to me and I have learned something new. Understanding the difference between the two can help an individual know the one they are so that they can function more efficiently. Some people see themselves as entrepreneurs when in fact they are business men because they are scared to take risk that can lead to their own growth, while they are entrepreneurs that do not actually understand the name they carry so they do not function properly to that capacity. Understanding and distinguishing the two will help anyone in either of the two positions perform better.

Some people start up as entrepreneurs but they later become businessmen because they stop taking risk while they are some businessmen that become an entrepreneurs because they start craving more from the business they operate that they become willing to take extra risk to become extra successful.

*****Businessman:
A businessperson is usually someone involved in commercial activities, primarily focused on managing established businesses. Their main job revolves around handling resources, boosting profits, and sticking to tried-and-true business models.
*****Entrepreneur:

*****Entrepreneur:

       6. Vision vs. Execution

*****Entrepreneur:

In summary

Businessmen definitely focus on managing established companies and targeting success, whereas entrepreneurs pay attention to innovation and taking risks to create new ventures or transform existing ones. Recognizing these differences can shed light on the various ways individuals contribute to economic growth and progress.

Entrepreneurs light the fuse with bold ideas, rapid pivots and a thirst for innovation, but without solid processes, financial controls and operational discipline, that initial spark often fizzles out. Businesspeople excel at turning proven models into sustainable, scalable ventures by managing risk, optimizing resources and keeping a close eye on margins and KPIs.

To turn a startup flash into a long‑lasting enterprise, an entrepreneur must evolve into a businessman: putting in place forecasting and contingency plans, formalizing roles and reporting, standardizing pricing and margins, and building the systems that ensure consistent growth long after the initial breakthrough.

Agreed because this is a perfect summary of the difference between their two, a business man won't want to take on new risks because they already have a system that's working for them hence all they're concerned about is how they're going to improve their business through the same system that has been working for them for many years but an entrepreneur is willing to take on new risk despite how many times that he tries and fail because an entrepreneur is more about bringing solutions to problems in a newer way or improving drastically on the already existing solution and making it better.

An entrepreneur pushes boundaries and not allow himself to be contained with in a box but a businessman won't mind repeating the same thing over and over provided he's making money and not taking on too many risks. Without entrepreneur new technology won't be invented and new ways of solving our problems won't have been found. We need more entrepreneurs in the society than businessman.

I literally just wrote about risks in one of the previous threads and I referenced entrepreneurs as the biggest risk takers. I will just put the comment here again since it is not different from what I will write. But before I do that, I will say that all entrepreneurs are businessmen and businesswomen but it is not all businessmen and women that are entreprenuers. Okay, back to the write up on risks taking: I like this first type because they are usually the ones that bring generational wealth as a result of their hardwork, risk taking behaviour, persistence and consistency. They are the ones that that were bold enough to create an unfamiliar success route different from what the society and family expects of them. They are not necessarily ceos but they are mostly entreprenuers, business people, professors and folks found doing unusually things in the different walks of life. If you are around them, you cannot be average, you must deliver excellence at all times and be willing to take even bigger risks too.

An Entrepreneur can't be widely differentiated between a business man and that's because they share some distinctive features but then an entrepreneur plays a key role in creativity and innovations, he tends to make something new out of an existing conditions that would be profitable to the business but in the other hand the business man wants to gets all of his profits so he uses some strategies to execute that but not necessarily in a creative manner.
Also, an entrepreneur supports a higher level of risk than an entrepreneur, as he will venture into a new venture, whether the idea is new and they seek to realize it, or they lack any background knowledge in the field. An entrepreneur is a different term because they have proven their competence in business management, and any new venture represents a cumulative addition to their professional experience.

The main difference of these two is about entrepreneurs innovating the products and making it more interesting and productive and more profitable. The easiest way to understand is an image that I've seen somewhere and it goes like this;

Businessman sells one watermelon for $5.
An entrepreneur sells watermelon juice (one slice) for $5.
Since entrepreneurs are innovators, they always think of ways how to improve certain things. They take problems and find solutions for it. If it’s hot and it’s summer, they might want to just sell watermelon shakes. Or maybe something else that’s interesting and unique like watermelon ice candy.
Yes, that's how they think. They think of solutions and what might be needed at that time out of something. They always think outside the box and that's where the opportunities strike them because they can see it while the others don't. Others might think of them as funny with the ideas that comes out from them.

Quote
I agree, both are important and they have their strengths that complement each other. Someone can be a businessman but not all businessman can become entrepreneurs.
Yes some businessman will just buy other products or innovations from other entrepreneurs. Businessmen usually know how to handle money better thsn entrepreneurs. That’s one of the difference
The profit margin is always on them even if it's the little and that's how businessmen think. While the entrepreneurs, they know how to make the profit bigger and that's not just about sales but also solutions as you've said.

Businessmen are individuals who own a business. Entrepreneurs are individuals who have an idea and work towards putting it into practice, so this category encompass a large number of individuals than businessman.

As I see, businessman is an entrepreneur who was successful on his initial plans and ideas, managing to turn them into reality, although that is not everything. To own a business involves many responsabilities, including the need of having to adapt yourself to the current demands of the market in order to maintain your business relevant.

Many entrepreneurs manage becoming businessmen, but they fail reaching the break-even point, that is when the costs of the business equals to the profit being made.

Thank you for shedding light on the many important differences between an entrepreneur and a businessman. I knew there was a difference between the two, but I didn't expect all the small details and numerous differences..

What attracted me most to entrepreneurship was that entrepreneurs don't just seek financial success. Their motivations often run deeper than that. They may be driven by a passion for their ideas, a desire to make a difference, or a commitment to social change. Yes, this is a very important difference, and one that contributes to the development of societies, unlike businessmen, whose sole concern is making more money, regardless of whether they contribute to the development of society.

English isn't my main language, but I think that you are misinterpreting the term "businessman" with the term "manager".
I think that entrepreneur and businessman(business owner) means exactly the same thing. A businessman is guy, who owns and runs a business. An entrepreneur(the word is French) means a person, who starts and develops a business. There's no difference in the meaning.
The people, who are hired to run already established companies are managers, not businessmen/entrepreneurs. They don't own the company, they just manage the company.

all have their placement according to the goals between an entrepreneur and businessmen, the meaning and goals are certainly different but all of them have goals in the business that we need, entrepreneur need to take risky steps in their development because they need to have broad ideas to facilitate a new business that has just started or is just starting out, while businessmen only need to manage what already exists with ideas to continue developing the business, for progress in its achievements.

Overall, entrepreneur is a businessman too but I understand the point of dividing them in this case. Since I'm into UI/UX design and I've been in touch with lots of stakeholders, including real businessmen and entrepreneurs, I'd say that the difference between them is that Entrepreneurs are more innovative with wide knowledge, while businessmen are mostly people with lots of money but narrower knowledge. Businessmen know how to deal with rich people and they know how to work behind the scenes, in shadows. Many businessmen don't know the business they start but successful businessmen hire good talent who run the company well but entrepreneurs mostly run companies themselves and take part into every step of business development.

The way I see it is that an entrepreneur is someone that is more creative than a businessman in the sense of coming up with new ideas. A businessman it's more ruthless and will just look for existing businesses and try to make them profitable again. The difference is very negligible. You could even claim that both terms happen to be synonymous. But I think entrepreneur has a feeling to it as if someone that starts from scratch and tries to come up with something that works, while the businessman role is just buy what the entrepreneur had created and scale it into a bigger company or even a corporation. Entrepreneurs may sell their business once they reach financial freedom and they can live off investments because what was once something enjoyable may have become what is in fact a job and the original idea may not be there anymore displaced to maximize profits if you want to stay in business.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BUSINESSMAN AND ENTREPRENEUR

       1. Definition and Focus
*****Businessman:
A businessperson is usually someone involved in commercial activities, primarily focused on managing established businesses.
*****Entrepreneur:
An entrepreneur, on the other hand, is someone who spots opportunities and takes the leap to create new ventures or improve existing ones. They are innovative, take risks, and turns ideas into successful businesses or products.

I myself think that businessman and entrepreneur are almost the same. When a person does business with a product, he is called a businessman, but when someone does business with a new and unique product from his own thoughts, he is called an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs always try to produce new products with their own knowledge. They do not try to copy any product of others very much. However, both can be called businessmen, so I do not see much difference between these two. This difference may be based on personal opinion or personal thoughts. But logically both are same

One thing you may want to understand is that the era of strict businessmen ended in the 20th century, In this new age, creativity and innovation is very essential to the success of every business. This is because almost no business enjoys total monopoly and the presence of competition has driven businesses to seek key employees who can think outside the box, and use their creativity and innovation to propel the company forward.

Every rigid businessman is almost obsolete since critical thinking and problem solving skills are now very essential requirements for employment in various disciplines.
