[Waiting List] Merit source applications

So only different board such as gambling got a new merit source and all accepted ones are from local boards. Good to see that some have multiple accepted merit sources on their local. I assumed those boards that got accepted might have none present MS, its interesting to see which local board dont have assigned source yet.

I just realized xzone was named merit source as well, so you can add to those who have made it and remove from those on the OP's waiting list, Catenaccio.

Although I don't know if it's going to make much sense to have this thread active because theymos usually won't make changes for a long time.

From the list of the approved sources from their respective boards, some already have their existing MS, but base on what i sense, they have been having increasing activities form the local board and taking Nigeria for instance, they already have two existing MS, but still yet, this couldn't serve round as the local board is one of the fast growing boards in the localized section.

Except a non active board with lesser activities and those not approved local board status already, but the most active ones have been considered already, you can as well see the order of their increasing activities quoted below.

Here comes the brief monthly overview of the local boards activity for April 2025. All charts and table are made using data from @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space.

Communities marked with * (Pakistan, Bangladesh) unfortunately still don't have their own local boards.

Sincerely, even if it is a thread that is rarely updated, having a reference overview of the merit source application list can be a good idea.
The applications sits idle for a long time, but we understand that Theymos doesn't forget those. But we do, or at least I do, so it’s a good starting point when something happens.

fwiw I was made into a merit source recently. Albeit the amount of merit I receive is small I try to hand it out in the Greek community as much as possible.

I would like to include your merit source application to the list, if you at least collect ten posts like theymos' guide on merit source application. Your merit source application does not include any post that deserves merit in your view.

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

Theymos you need to actually consider some of this guys that applied especially those that applied for boards lacking merit, merit distribution is not balanced in all boards and it's not suppose to be so, since discussions are actively going on in those boards merit should be distributed there, no active board should be lift out.

Most of them have even given up. Some made applications way back in 2020 and haven't been granted, so after years of waiting, they just withdrew their applications. I think there should be a time limit to keep someone waiting; after that time limit, they can consider themselves as not eligible or very unlikely to be selected as merit sources.

I believe there are merit source who are not active anymore in this forum, some are active but not active in merit distribution while some have been removed from being a merit source so there's need for new merit source especially those that applied for boards that are actually lacking merit.

I don't blame those that gave up.

You know he wouldn't do that right. Your suggestion is not bad, but it would mean we would have a lot of merit source applications in meta all at the same time and it could also make the process look like an application for a paid position, when it actually isn't, but a duty users offer to the forum.

The current method works well, we already know Theymos doesn't like to make too many changes all at once. So people who fit the requirements can simply drop their applications whenever they want to and bump it regularly.

By the way, I just checked your shared links, and I want to tell you that one of them is banned now, and the others may have withdrawn their Merit Source application.

And about this, you are surely correct here. OP needs to make some changes accordingly in the original post for up-to-date and accurate data. That, as a result, may be helpful for the administration while checking the status of those applications that are still pending. What do you say?

Yeah, and a number of members who had tried to apply 5-6 years back are now inactive.

I don't know about the local boards, but lately in the English boards that I am familiar with, merit distribution seems to be sparse compared to the volume of posts. It's so hard to get merited if you don't post in Meta, Reputation and a couple of other boards. We might need more merit sources soon.

It is interesting that a veteran member of this forum discovered this. Merit distribution in the general board is low.

I have expected that when someone is very close to their next rank, a merit source could just add a little merit to their profile in order to complete their joy of a new rank. But it feels sometimes like one is just invisible to others.
