Pope Francis passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. His funeral was held on April 26, 2025, in St. Peter's Square, Vatican City, attended by approximately 250,000 mourners and numerous global dignitaries. But that is not what i want to discuss here.
Over 250,000 people and more than 100 Presidents and Heads of State gathered at the Vatican, yet not a single offertory was collected. No envelopes to package your "quality offering," no tithes, no seeds of faith. Nothing of such manner

This is exactly why I love our Nigerian happy-clappy churches. Just imagine the billions we could have made from offertory alone!

By now, 50,000 ushers, dressed in black and gold will be recruited from universities, they will be compelled to distribute envelopes to Trump and other big names plus everybody else in under five minutes.

I have no animosity towards Christianity in Nigeria. I'm only stating how differently things are done here.

It is no longer news that Churches has now been turned into Businesses. Individuals just wake up one morning and be like “Hey, I wanna have my own church, so I can generate huge revenues from the offerings, tithes and others” there are hundreds of pastors and religious leaders who are into this business (I’d be damned to call any names).

But this has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity in Nigeria because there are several other pastors who are really not that interested in the revenues generated from the members through offerings, tithes and others (don’t ask me give any examples).

I understand all this, and the angle you are coming from  and this entails how we Nigerians try to take advantage of any situation or opportunity that presents itself, without minding wether it's good or not, so am not surprised about this, but this op post has nothing to do with Bitcoin or cryptocurrency, it's more of politics and society or possibly off topic, it's just a matter of time before it will be moved to where it's best fit by our moderator igebotz.

Fact remains that there's a Nigerian factor over everything that happens in Nigeria. I was speaking with a friend earlier today who stays in the western world and I was shocked to hear that even offerings are not announced in church and that there's a box where you can go if you wish to give offering, nothing like persuasive preaching and persuasive tithing. All these are in existence in this part of the world because of poverty and bad leadership. If pope's burial should be conducted in Africa, many private jets would be donated and big envelopes would follow. Your prayer points here is provided by the government in the western world.

All these being said, it is obvious that this Thread is political and should be placed approximately though.

The bible said it "in the later days there will be fake prophets preaching in my name". I am not afraid of calling names if I have a valid proof to back up my claim, since people are not scared of using the name of God in vain. Many persons in our country today are toxics, people use the scriptures in the bible to do comedy, different pastors use the name of God to extort money from believer.

Don't say it has nothing to do with Christianity, it sure has. Other religions like Muslim have you seen a fake mosque before or someone extorting money using their religion why should it be Christianity too. Many people no longer see Christianity as a religion, but rather as a means of identifying with a particular group when completing personal documents.

The number of churches we have on this country will definitely not going to be the same with other countries that's even more populated than Nigeria because one thing that will make churches increase in numbers is the money tastes because if it wasn't money why will someone leave the church you were worshipping with maybe a higher pastor that oversees everything, so actually what op got from the whole funeral of the late pop is something we cannot see here especially after they have seen the people that came, I no say plenty churches they way they do well for the mission of God but we are only against those who are abusing it.

One lesson I’ve learned in life is, never try to do for God what He can do for Himself. The same scripture says “touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm”. Harm may not really mean physical harm, tongue lashing could also be a form of harm. A pastor may be really called by God but still indulge in a few “not so cool” activities and it’s only left for God to recompense their actions, not for us to be all Judgmental, God is capable of dealing with such situations by Himself and if we get involve, we may likely attract His wrath too. This is the reason why, no matter how many times I see a pastor misbehave, I always try my best not to say any ill words about them but rather I allow God to take care of them however He deems fit.

You don't have to judge because it won't make any difference. What you need to do is create awareness against anything false. I doubt you would allow your friend or family member to fall victim to a fake prophet's scam. The country is tough; people are willing to say things they don't believe in just to make a living. You wouldn't want to be the type of person to be generous to those people. Since you don't want to speak out against them, avoid them and encourage people you know to avoid them as well, if you feel like.

Let not jump into conclusions, even though we know how highly monetize religion centers have become lately here in Nigeria, but that doesn't mean that we can use the none collection of offering at a funeral as a bases for comparison of what Christianity is like in Rome and Nigeria, because even in this Nigeria, we still have some pastors who chooses not to collect offering in some large growded gathering despite have thousands of people in the said gathering. I still remember how my pastor use to say clearly that all his Nigeria and international crusade he never call for offering or any form of seed collection, so this is one argument that counter this assumption.

Yeah you’re 100% right.
There’s absolutely nothing with creating awareness to your loved ones about such people, but while dog so, it’s important to mind the words we use or things we say on the process so as not to end up sounding judgmental. I go on social media and when I see some post about these kind of topics and people’s reactions and responses to them, I just can’t e help but to weep for them because some people speak a though they themselves are perfect and have no single sin or blemish in them. The Bible instructed us to always observe ourselves first and be sure we are on a clear standing before move further to judge others.

I have no animosity towards Christianity in Nigeria. I'm only stating how differently things are done here.
The mode of administration of churches in different denomination and nations varies and though we can't justify some of the excess of our African churches, we can also relate to some of the reason why they tend to take collection of money seriously. In most foreign countries, most church systems and structures are fully functional making it hard for for the church to be self sustainable on her own.

The way most American institutions including the church operate is such that,  in gathering like that, big dignitaries aren't compelled to do things by force. If they so desire to help, it's going to come out of there own discretion

I understand your opinion but there's no doubt that several so called Christian leaders in Nigeria weren't called by God or had the intention of being are Christian leader some where lead to become what they're cause of their greed and hunger for money, that's why you'll see more churches than schools in our neighbourhood.

I bet that if such event was held in Nigeria and maybe in a church with a pastor or man of God with such mentality, he would've looked for different means to milk the elites that attended the program by requesting for different set of offering with names like project, welfare, congregation offering or seeing fake vision and prophesies that would force the elites to donate funds, a huge percentage of the church is so corrupt currently what most pastors care about is making money through God's name.

Honestly, this is a thought provoking issue... People making business out of people in the name of churches...  The teachings in those churches one just need common sense not spiritual sense to unravel the manuplation behind it.... You'll see different methods and medium used to raise money.. Which are not far from trickery..
This is not about Christianity in any way but about wickedness, trickiness and even ignorance on the part of these CEOs and ignorance on the part of this members

By now, 50,000 ushers, dressed in black and gold will be recruited from universities, they will be compelled to distribute envelopes to Trump and other big names plus everybody else in under five minutes.

I have no animosity towards Christianity in Nigeria. I'm only stating how differently things are done here.
Some churches for we country na business centre them be na, that's why them get branches in every five NEPA pole, operating like Bank branches with each of the them given target on a monthly basis. Trust me, if we stop tithes and offering today for church, a lot of churches go close down. The version of Christianity we operate in Nigeria is really mind disturbing, they are so money oriented that they in most cases forget the core functionality of Christendom. That was how one senior pastor was saying the other day that Chris didn't associate Abi hate poor people.

Just imagine this congregation and no offering for Thanksgiving was shared, no first fruit, no tithes, no offering for first Sunday of the month Omo e get the kind offering way we never see for this country.
