Why Is Ethereum So Slow This Cycle?

I have been  wondering why Ethereum has been so slow this cycle.

Compare to 2020/2021 when BTC made a new high, Ethereum pumped massively doing over 3X.

But this time it’s just so different, Ethereum keeps stalling despite ETFs approvals and launch.

Even when BTC broke a new all time high in the past  months, Ethereum didn’t still break it  all time high.

I wonder what could be holding Ethereum back. Let me know your  thoughts.

People fudding about ethereum foundation dumping their bags and people aren't really sure what direction of development ethereum is gonna be taking.

Compare it with other L1 coins that currently crushing ETH, they all have solid plans and always doing rapid development.
So because of that there's no other outcome but for ETH to just keep dumping, not to mention the blockchain is slow as heck.

To be specific, slow in its price progress? Probably it is and it's not only you that have noticed it. That is because of the meme coins money that flown into other chains like SOL, SUI and other L1 projects. Soon, the time and money will flow to Ethereum again, it's only a matter of time when but if you're an ETH holder and you've got a bunch of it. Just remain optimistic because IMO, it's still one of the good altcoins that you can hold there. Don't lose hope if you are bagholding Ethereum as of this moment, for me it makes no sense to sell at a cheaper price, I'll wait.

So many more altcoins now compared to 2021.

I started in crypto 2022 and never been interested in Ethereum, found it too high both in price and gas fees.

I still think it will hit new highs past $5k later this year, but it has lost its dominance now.

Have you forgotten that ether is an altcoin? People will prefer to go for what is the best. And not just people but those institutions and people that have huge amount of money. They will order bitcoin because altcoins are very volatile. They will prefer the coin that is less volatile and a coin that is a store of value. What that happened to ether is not surprising because what that made it to become the number one altcoin is innovation and ether developers do not have the new innovation this season.

As it was stated - uncertainty from the dev team and statements like that don't help the situation with the overall look for the main layer of ETH.

And it may go even lower if things continue that way.

Indeed in the end Ethereum experienced the toughest challenge, especially since it did not have a clear supply. So it is natural when investors slowly began to lose confidence, moreover Ethereum is not a solution for long-term investment. We must realize that supply is important as a long-term asset, and Ethereum itself is taking the wrong step.

When someone gets in over their head and feel too powerful and use that power to keep control or at least keep showing off their power, they never do any good. Like Elon Musk, look at him, he had the greatest companies in the world, and he could have just stayed a rich man who did whatever he wanted, but he wanted to prove how strong he is, and went with politics, now look at how much money he has lost, and that is just the start, he will keep on losing money, specially if democrats ever take power.

Vitalik isn't realizing how much he is hurting ETH, and he will never realize it, because he feels he is the one that took ETH there not realizing it is us that took ETH there, the people. If he decides to go on, then we the people will take ETH down too.

Well now Ethereum is up more then 4 percent in only the last 7 days. And it is up more then Bitcoin is in that time. I do think we are now starting a 'bull market' so I do think we will make some profit.
And there is alot of reasons why we will see next price of it of 2000. So just hodl and do not worry we will see gains.

I have a sneaky suspicion it might perform much better than Bitcoin for the rest of 2025. $5,000 is possible this year, maybe even higher.

Agreed. Surely it can't stay down at these lows much longer  $5k minimum should be the target over the next 3-6 months.

Well, people use altcoins to gamble on the newest trends and everything else including POW-POS talk is cope. Last cycle we had a NFT frenzy and it was all on ETH, this cycle was SOL cassino and people doing stupid shit live for coins, so it lagged behind.

With sol cassino slowing down and people going back to developing new stuff on ETH then it will eventually go up.

Back then when BTC was 60k ETH is sitting around 3.5k. Something wrong is definitely going on here.
Why ETH just keep dumping but always make a small recovery, maybe people aren't interested in ETH anymore and distracted by SUI and SOLANA.

It's the competition that is also a big factor as to why Ethereum fall or at least lose some of the support of the community. And when Vitalik opted out of the leadership there could be some power struggle and the SOL find the perfect time to become Ethereum biggest competitor.

Still different that time as they still have the trust, but when they change their model and then it become decentralized, maybe many investors left for other altcoins to invest their money and now it's in SOL and SUI.

It's not impossible to happen, but unlikely to happen. Ethereum is losing its hype due to the inconsistency of its development. Things worsen when it has very big inflation.

It proves how ethereum burn mechanism did nothing because the more ethereum is being printed.

I'd rather put my money on Solana and Sui instead of ethereum. More scalable, fixed supply, a lot of whales and many more.

Ethereum has come to the end of its era. There will be no new ATH for eth.

I think fragmentation of capital in altcoin market is also a real thing besides the tough competition where every L1 just make ETH tech seems obsolete with its low TPS.

People are locking money in other chains by billions, the money was initially locked in ETH and supporting the ecosystem but now other L1 just keep grabbing more and more shares of the TVL because they offered better profitability.
It's a tough thing for ETH.

Ethereum is the mother that wants to carry it all. these days you can have a bit of all but you should be champion in at least 1.
they are losing out on every new trend. No memes on eth, No porting of new solid projects.
these are being stollen by alternative decisive main chains.

Yes. ETH's slow movement has been concerning. I think it has to do with the fact that other platforms are doing better in terms of scalability and marketing/promotion. Solana is ETH's biggest contender, as the "meme" coins craze has propelled it to new heights. If ETH developers don't innovate, the platform will be nothing but doomed. They have focused on L2 scaling solutions instead of the main Blockchain network itself. There are too many L2 networks, which means lower liquidity and TVL on Ethereum.

I believe that lowering on-chain gas fees and reducing wait times will make ETH popular again. The market is already showing signs of disappointment on ETH. It will never reach a new ATH this way. Hopefully, things will improve in the future. I'm not giving up on ETH yet.
