BitcoinTalk Banned Users Identifier

Following this recent Topic, I decided to create an Extension and a UserScript for the same purpose of identifying banned users.

The script utilizes the list from https://loyce.club/bans/usernames.txt to identify banned users and works on both profiles and threads.

The Extension also includes a popup.html to toggle the active status on and off.

Installation

Userscript:

• Use Tampermonkey, which works for both Chrome and Firefox.
• Add the script from bitcointalk-ban-checker-userscript, GreasyFork
    
• FOR MOBILE :
        
  • Download kiwi browser for Android
  • Install Tamper Monkey Extension on the Kiwi browser [screenshot]
            
  • Open the Tampermonkey Extension > create new script...[screenshot] and paste the UserScript code [screenshot]
            
  • Save File [screenshot] , the UserScript should be available [screenshot]
            
          

Extension:

• Only available for manual installation.
• Download the Source code to your local machine from Assets.
      
• Load the unpacked extension on chrome://extensions (Chrome) or about:debugging (Firefox) > Load Temporary Add-on.
      
• Unzip the source code and select the "Extension/" folder for Chrome, or select the "Extension/manifest.json" file for Firefox.
    

** Both the UserScript and the Extension only works for identifying Banned Users, if you want a comprehensive  feature Extension , consider BPIP Extension provided by ibminer & suchmoon

I am not trying to rain on your parade, but doesn't the BPIP extension already do this(including other features others might find useful)? I am currently using it and it is basically the same as this when it comes to identifying banned users.

BPIP isn't working on some browsers since Google added their manifest v3, and I think suchmoon hasn't been able to release the new version on the extension store.

The extension failed review when I tried to release the updated version from test to "live". Still trying to figure out what exactly the didn't like about it. Said something about collecting "user status" data, which I don't think we do.

Good privacy practices will certainly make extension users safer in the short and long term. So I am really curious about what kind of user data can be collected and what agreements can convince users to use this extension?

I take an example from the BPIP extension:

• Not sold to third parties, outside of approved use cases
• Not being used or transferred for purposes that are unrelated to the item's core functionality
• Not being used or transferred to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes

well my aim was just to create a UserScript that  works for only banned users but i just felt like adding the extension, it's a very light one , just some few lines of codes in two to three files..

Yes the the popup is only available for the Extension i didn't make it that big, just a little popup beside the extension it self. To see it, click on the extension icon and for the UserScript, you can  just disable the script  directly from Tamper monkey, you should be familiar with that..

Not collecting ANY DATA, i didn't publish the Extension  either so it has to be done manually..

Does this work on mobile version only or it comprises with both web, for instance I am using my PC and I have the Bpip extension installed on my system and I can easily locate those who are banned or inactive on their status for some while now.

Yes you can use it on mobile and web but to use it on mobile, you need to intalll kiwibrowser for Android, install tamper monkey extension, then use the userscript..
Here’s how it will look after installation..

I will add the installation guide for android on the thread shortly..

Not sure about IOS but there's a standalone Tampermonkey extension for sefari that can be used to run the userscript i think.

Something tells me this can be more efficient. Does it download this 6 MB for each view, or is it cached? Do you need the usernames, or can I get you a list with only userIDs?

No, i cached the resource for the extension to 1 day , it can be changed manually...

Not really(ids can also identify), but since the file provides both the username and ids , i just scraped both.. for now i'm only using the username though, but stored the ids too...

Noticed the UserScript only cached the resource once, until the script was deleted and re-added. This is now fixed. I made a change to cache it manually, and it uses the same time interval just like the Extension(24 hours).

However, @suchmoon's BPIP Extension also shows the same result as like as your extension shows.
Your one has some extra features. I really liked it, in BPIP Extension by suchmoon, there is no pop-up data, and no strikethrough mark though...

In my opinion banned users should be visible by default in bitcointalk forum profiles when you log in forum.
Maybe PowerGlove can make something like this in future.

I agree, but I'll rather limit it to only when you want to interact with that profile by sending a personal message or reporting their posts. In these cases, a small pop up indicating the user is banned can appear.

But I wouldn't want it to be on the profile. Bans are not always permanent nor for wrong doing; accounts like Satoshi and Lauda were banned to protect them.

I think a good solution to this could be to create some categories of bans. For example, permanent banned profiles, temporary banned profiles (banned for a certain period of time) or honorable banned profiles.

Permanent banned profiles can also be briefly mentioned with the reason for the ban or a negative ban symbol can be used so that a user can easily understand that the forum has banned this user for his negative actions.

In the case of temporary banned users, a time limit can be set on their profile. So that a user of the forum can easily understand how long the forum has banned this profile holder. In this case, the reason for the ban may not be that important.

I would not call honorable banned profiles banned. Rather, I would call them protected profiles. For security reasons, we may use different symbols on these profiles so that all forum users can understand that the profile holder was a respected person and that the profile holder has permanently departed from the forum.

The link to the UserScript  on the thread should be up to date, it points directly to the file itself . Although if you had  used the Assets specified under the extension earlier , you're going  to get the old scripts as it contains only the first release assets . I will fix that soon so it can point to the releases, I will also upload it to greasyfork for easy lookup.

Time to explore and advance in some usability access on the forum. To be honest I have not been of that interest of identifying banned users in the forum because all I felt more concerned about was a just "fair interactions" with the community users.
Though I have come across the Bpip extension thread but have not thought of using it due to it grade of technicality but I will be considering to use this one of yours Op because I find it more friendly in connectivity of keeping banned users on tracks to be used even as it is limited to perform the highily intelligent AI factors as that of the Bpip.

Apart from the kiwi browser, is there no other browser that can be used to integrate the extension on mobile? That browser doesn't go well on my phone, it either cause the phone to slow in speed or causes overheating. Can it not be possible on chrome or Phoenix browser?

The over heating and lagging could be as a result of your device . It could happen if you have high memory usage as well ( not storage!) , major cause could be too much apps installed or your device comes with a low  RAM.

Nevertheless, I tried searching another compatible browser,
"FireFox Better " browser or "FireFox Nightly" browser, here
Almost same procedure in kiwi for  installing Tampermonkey, just locate the Extension space and install it, create new script and enable afterwards.

The script seems unable to deal with usernames that contain an extra ":" like "OptimusPrime:)".
