Gambling is an addiction where one enters into it thinking that gambling can change one's destiny. This topic just remind me of something that happened back then during our (SSCE) exam, a friend of my was broke to the extent that he couldn't afford to pay any of his tuition fees, meanwhile this guy have been struggling all alone without depending from his Love ones/relatives as his parents is not well to do. However when the (SSCE) was fast approach things became very tough for him because he never had the space to go for side hustling as he used to, a day before the starting date the guy became worried as he was roaming from one angle to the other looking for who will lend him some money to enable him clear his outstanding bills, but all his efforts was in vain. And he came up with the idea of gambling with the little money that is Left with him, as God may have it the guy won the sum of 15k back then things was still very cheap as 15k is such a huge amount of money back then.

At this point most people will consider it as smartness, that's those set of people that doesn't know the disadvantage. reason been that he hit a bit multiplayer who knows what would have become of him if the outcome turns out the other way round, I think he was so lucky to win, moreover I think the issue is somehow complicated. I like how you compare luck as a woman, even though I don't completely agree on the accuracy of such comparison. There have been people who have been optimistic, had a big bankroll and "strong mind" and yet, their bankroll and there optimist was not enough to defeat the house edge, which is mathematically set in place to make the casino to be profitable in the long term.

It is hard for me to believe that a hungry person would decide to give away the money they borrowed from someone to play instead of going to get some food. I understand what you are talking about but it seems to me that such cases are really very rare these are isolated situations. A person will always first think about getting something to eat and where to spend the night these are basic needs that will always come first.

Yes there are players who lose a lot and maybe even take things from their parents' homes to sell them pawn them and keep playing. But in that case again their basic needs like having food and a place to sleep are covered if they can do it at their parents' house but this is definitely a problem that should be addressed. Personally I have never seen such players in my life and have never had such acquaintances so in my view there are actually very few of them.
