According to police, this happened in November of last year. They were three teens which kidnapped someone who just finished hosting a crypto-related event in downtown Las Vegas. They told the person that they have also kidnapped his father as they want him to give them his account password.
There are enough greed and stupid people so they can afford to take enough risk and potential consequence for doing very stupid things which they will regret later. It's about their actions and consequences from their sides but if you are a victim, you have your own problems that can be like only once in your life time like you will be killed, or it can give you second chance with some sorts of consequences on your finance and physical fitness.

Losing your money is bad, unfortunate and unwanted but if your body is harmed at any level, it would be worse consequence. Therefore if you know about many possible risks, and are fearful about them, let's practice better in privacy and anonymity as prevention is always better than cure. There is no cure can help you restoring your body parts, limbs or your life.

This is becoming very terrifying because there is no way to remain completely hidden as a bitcoiner. I know that the bull run will draw so much attention of people to those who have been pushing the course of bitcoin and base on the world we are now, it is now turning into security threat for them. Assuming we can know how the teenagers were able to know that their victim have such money in cryptocurrency, that would have helped us to learn more from the incidence.

One important lesson I learnt from this incidence is never to store our assets in a form that they can entire be accessed from anywhere or from a single device. Assuming the man use hardware wallet or wallets that are not connected to the internet, perhaps he wouldn't have lost that much but just some cryptocurrency he might be using or trading with.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/florida-teens-kidnap-crypto-entrepreneur-at-gunpoint-steal-4-m-in-crypto

It's been a long time coming, I know this day will come, where crypto holders will become a heavy target for criminals, it will get to a point where not a single seminar attending will be safe.

We all want to create awareness I get it but now that the world knows what crypto is all about it will be very ugly soon, I am not surprised, I've tried to confuse many people about Bitcoin and now I regret it, because when we meet again these set of people will be looking at me as if I have all the money in the world in my pocket.

Don't ever think it can't happen to you, I am taken more precaution measures and I turned into my defensive mode when I smell something fishy, I don't even want to be around people when they talk about crypto anymore unless it's in my private space or same set of people that are into crypto just like myself.

The part that these criminals now get fished out is what gladdens my heart anytime I read about these crypto hacks and kidnap cases. It's not easy this day for these criminals to escape uncovered, except in countries where citizens can't take up such a matter with law enforcement agents. Once a case like that is reported, onchain experts will do the needful to trace movements of such funds. Cryptos isn't as anonymous as they used to be in the past. Transactions can be traced this day.

I am glad they were caught, and i hope they hadn't squandered the stolen funds before they were caught, so that the victim can get his money back. I am sure these teens have been monitoring this man for sometime now, until they found a perfect time to strike, i am sure seeing he was host of a crypto event was all the criminals needed to conclude that he was loaded with crypto, and they were right.

That said, it is hard to avoid a $5 wrench attack once people know or are made to believe that you have crypto, sometimes it is inevitable if you run or own a crypto related brand or service, but if you do not, better to stay discreet for your own safety.

One more reason why I don't longer support teaching crypto especially in public unless the intended learners willingly come for you. I had a similar discussion with a colleague some days back when they were about starting a crypto class to teach people but I kicked against it because of things like this. Once you volunteered to teach people about crypto, they normally assume you have a large portfolio that worth a lot and the bad minds among them will start targeting you. We assume organising public gathering will bring positive result to crypto space but it seems it's bringing more harm than expected good and exposure.

I noticed how some people intentionally brought unnecessary attention upon themselves by hosting space online or gather in a public hall claiming whale. This is the result! Even to attend online space now, one will need to be anonymous and off their location on their device.

Should we now stop teaching teens about crypto? They should be treated as adults and get appropriate punishment.

I don’t think it’s bad hosting crypto related events, but when hosting events like this, then make sure you consider the security condition of the place where you are hosting the event. Also if you are organizing events like this, you are not suppose to use your main wallet as example to people, the amount of coin you are holding should be known to only you, and if you are teaching about crypto, just create a new account, and deposit just little amount of money, and use that account to teach them about trading.

The person’s intention is to increase crypto awareness, and to teach people about crypto, but at the end the person planning to help people is being kidnapped, seriously that’s really bad, and that’s really going to discourage other people planning to organize things like this from doing it. We just have to be smart and careful, no matter the amount which the coin you are holding worth, always stay low.

So, why can't those being aware of this risks and haven a hold of assets on it they to just keep mouth shut and maintain an anonymous profile to the public?
the majority are keep their mouth shut IRL, but you can't stay anonymous when your job or work is public facing in crypto like the victime in this case.

I don't know if their parents are to blame, but one thing is clear: I want them to be punished quite harshly so that all others who want to feast on someone else's property would learn a lesson and a warning.
But of course, I would like to wish all crypto owners modesty in talking about their assets and safety.
the parents do hold some responsibility, but i can't really blame them, some kids are just a lost cause.
and with how stupid some of them are, even if they make an example out of those 3 teens, i doubt they would learn a lesson from it.
give it a few months and some retard gonna do the same shit again.

Should we now stop teaching teens about crypto? They should be treated as adults and get appropriate punishment.

Just because of what happened, we're already jumping to conclusions? That’s not right. This isn’t the only crime linked to crypto, there are tons of different scams and illegal activities out there.

Stuff like this is hard to avoid, especially when people know we have holdings in a wallet that we control. There’s a reason why Satoshi stayed anonymous, becauseif he ever went public, his life would be in serious danger.

I agree with you. It's not about lessons or any organized events designed to popularize cryptocurrencies. It's about people. These teenagers have proven their ignorance by not understanding that many of their actions with cryptocurrency can be tracked.. It is necessary to talk and develop literacy about crypto, but it is better to know the standard of living and the contingent of students, to understand the places and people where you bring knowledge. There are many disadvantaged areas and families for whom stealing and going to prison is nothing; they visit prisons as places for their rest regularly.

Then we should stop teaching children about money, because they might perform same $5 wrench attack on anyone with money? Absolutely not. I think story teaches us always be prepared for a situation when someone tries to mug us, if we have a lot of money. Money require big responsibility in security questions. We better teach children about responsibility, consequences and money safety. Teach children how to tell where it is appropriate to show and talk about money they have, and were it is better not to do it, or do after all safety measures have been taken.

These kind of gathering event most likely happen for those who want to get a network of new friends and knowledge so its hard to blame them that if they want to go with there to connect with others but yes there's a chance of exposure right there because people now identified you guys as one of the people who are into a crypto space and they knew that you have a lot of money which is the cons with this such as what happened on OP story they get attempted. So better you make yourself low key as possible so you don't get much risk with your life its more valuable than your asset.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June, with both teens set to be tried as adults.
I am shocked to see that the news is something involving teens and, in this case, not them being the victims but being the doers of such a crime. Whenever I hear news about teenagers involved in crime, I always wonder who is to blame if it is the society, or their parents because a lot of these children are interested in making quick money but not actually putting their back to hard work because of the pressure from maybe friends and people they don't know online.
This should also serve as a warning to say that even Teens and people you consider harmless can be even more dangerous than the people you are scared of that actually look like the criminals.

It is no secret that every public figure associated with the cryptoindustry is a potential victim of such crimes. Therefore, such people need to be extremely careful and take measures to ensure their safety (as well as that of their relatives).

They stole $4 million worth of coins and NFTs from him. Two of the teens has been arrested while one was said to have been out of the country. One of the two arrested was bailed with $4 million while the second person was given house arrest. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June, with both teens set to be tried as adults.
This teenager gave up those same stolen $4 million as bail? Smiley It would be funny if it was also in NFTs. Smiley

Jokes aside.

Where did the teenager get so much money? Or did he manage to rob someone else?

But if I should asked? How did the teens knew he had over $4m of crypto in his wallet? Because this question raises a big concern in this case, and a big lesson we also should learn from, in other not to be victim of such scenario later in the future. Because for me, I think there are two scenarios that could have resulted to this theft. Such as;
1. I think maybe that man could have while trying to brag to the audience he was hosting in the crypto-related event in downtown Las Vegas, could have told them that he is not an average crypto investor, but rather owns millions of crypto in his wallets, which must have prompted those teens plot for his kidnap. Or

2. Maybe he could have mistaken publish online his Bitcoin wallet address on any of his social media platforms, of which I'm pretty sure those guys could have checked his wallet address and knew how much he had in his wallet and plotted to kidnap him.

And as such, the only solution that can remedy such incident not to have happened or ever happen in the future to any of us here on this forum will be to avoid letting people know how much Bitcoin you own in your wallet, and giving access to anybody to know the wallet address where you own majority of your Bitcoin. And strive to hire a personal security if you are going to a crowded event.

These physical attacks are becoming a big problem. Every now and then we keep hearing of these attacks on people who own crypto. My problem now is that this can hinder crypto awareness and adoption in some areas. The victim became a target because he was part of a crypto event. Some people would never have heard or be part of the crypto industry if not for some of these physical events. These attacks would make people not to publicize anything about cryptocurrencies because they would become targets.

I have stopped discussing anything about cryptocurrencies with anybody except some few people I trust. And in this discussions I would never tell them how much I own. I have also tried as much as possible not to disclose my location to people.

If someone is kidnapped for any reason, then the government should be blamed because they are the ones collecting tax to ensure the safety and security of citizens. And to be honest, if you become rich, you have to go through this. It can be less exposed in the crypto space compared to other professions, where you might have to present yourself more.

It is sad to know that someone has to go through this, but these government need to do something especially for high worthy individuals.

Crypto thefts are increasing which should make know the reason privacy is very important. According to police, this happened in November of last year. They were three teens which kidnapped someone who just finished hosting a crypto-related event in downtown Las Vegas. They told the person that they have also kidnapped his father as they want him to give them his account password.

They stole $4 million worth of coins and NFTs from him. Two of the teens has been arrested while one was said to have been out of the country. Those are some rich theifs men, the one that got caught get bailed with same amount they stole from their victims, anyways this are still baby theifs and the victims was too vulnerable to the point that he was helpless before kids and got robbed.

Good they got caught and money recovered, but the victim should go learn more tawado styles at least to defend himself next time and be more private.

This is getting too frequent yo ignore. Earlier this week it was in France, now it is happening in America. This isn't about privacy anymore because some individuals cannot remain discreet. I mean their whole activities relates round about crypto just like this person who hosted a crypto event. I'll say we just have to become less predictable. Arrived in one route and leave via another route. Create the impression that you are heavily guarded and not an easy target to Pict on.
