According to announcement shared by Exodus

Exodus will discontinue Monero (XMR) support by August 10, 2025, and Monero Market will close operations by May 14, 2025.

It's highly frustrating to see another wallet (Exodus) discontinue support for XMR. Privacy coins such as Monero have long been a barrier for mainstream wallets, and it appears that the industry has yet to fully embrace the necessity of privacy.  Users who respect their financial privacy are left scrambling for dependable solutions, which is annoying.

I 've noticed this as well. I don't use Exodus, but I thought they supported most currencies and they fact they used to support XMR as well, was a plus for them.

They suggest migrating the wallet to Cake Wallet, which I 've never used.

They also allow users to export their raw private key. If you get the private key you can then import it on Feather Wallet, which is a wallet that I think is top-notch for Monero.

So, no big deal that Exodus won't support XMR any more. Users can do many things (including the 2 options I mentioned above), in order to keep their money perfectly safe.

I will not recommend anyone to migrate the wallet or import the private key, it will be better to transfer the monero instead to the new wallet. Also because Exodus is a close source wallet.

No a big deal but this could be an indication of how Exodus wallet developers can invade their users privacy by following regulations. The wallet is close source and I am not using it. Their bad reputation will continue to precede them.

In fact, this only applies for users who won't manage to send the coins on time. If a user wakes up one day after exodus has stopped their monero support, the only way they will (hopefully) have to save their coins should be to migrate their wallet. This is because the seed phrase that Exodus provides can't be used in other Monero software wallets.

Exodus wallet's decision to discontinue Monero coin support is part of their market strategy.

Many other wallets support Monero coins that you can still use. One of them is the wallet provided by the Monero developer itself: https://www.getmonero.org/downloads/ (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.0)
I have used it to try to run Monero nodes:

This wallet is sort of like what Bitcoin Core is for Bitcoin. It's a great wallet in my opinion, but I 've mainly used it as a node and not as a wallet. I prefer using Feather because it looks like Electrum and it's a great SPV wallet. But, if I had to start today without knowing anything, normally the wallet I 'd start with would be Monero Wallet, because it's user friendly, feature-rich and stable. Having the knowledge that I have, I prefer a simple, light-weight wallet like Feather.

I agree with you. Monero GUI Wallet is like Bitcoin Core for a Bitcoin wallet. They also provide a Monero CLI Wallet just as there is a Bitcoin Core RPC/REST (CLI) Wallet (https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-core/features/user-interface#cli).

But for users who want a light wallet, the Feather wallet is one of the wallets recommended by Monero developers, as can be seen here:

So even non-custodial wallets are not safe anymore? There are alternatives out there obviously, but I'm very curious to know why this decision. They could've just disabled the swap feature if trading it was an issue, but I doubt it was...since that was being done through third-party instant exchanges.

Good point, I was also thinking the same but according to them this will improve usability and reliability...

Well, it depends on the non-custodial wallet. Exodus was never a good option to consider in the first place. What's the point of using self-custody if they disclose your privacy through feature they provide? The swap feature is third-party, and the third party would have their own way of running things, like this complaint and  that compliant

So my guess will just be Exodus has something going on in the background, because I don't know how discontinuing that will improve usability.

I haven't used Exodus for a long time due to its closed-source nature, it's a mainstream wallet focused on altcoin enthusiasts. There are excellent wallets that support Monero, in addition to Monero GUI Wallet, Feather Wallet and Cake Wallet, there's also Stack Duo which supports Bitcoin and Monero.

The only wallet I've used for Monero was GUI Wallet, as far as I remember, we can connect it to other nodes via SPV as an alternative, right?

So, it's normal for mainstream wallets to drop support for Monero, due to fear of government regulations and sanctions. An established cryptocurrency wallet should resist this, but that's OK. I don't use Exodus and I don't recommend using it. Always prefer open-source wallets.

Who cares about closed source Exodus wallet when there is Cake wallet or Stack wallet as much better open source alternatives.
I even think that Stack wallet is working with Exodus team for seamless transition to Stack wallet.
You can also use native monero wallets like Feather (similar to Electrum design), or hardware wallets like Trezor and Keystone.

I think what Charles-Tim means is that you shouldn't use the same wallet on other wallet software; instead, once you import it to other wallet software, transfer it immediately to a newly created wallet.

Feather is a good option as you suggested above for the desktop lite version of the Monero wallet, but the problem it doesn't have a mobile version yet, so a much better alternative for mobile users is the Cake Wallet.

The good feature that I want in Cake Wallet is the advanced privacy option, where you can enable TOR.

Most of them have never been safe anyway, especially if the source code is closed, just like Exodus has been. From the time a hack happened on atomic wallet, another closed source noncustodial wallet, and they never gave details on how the hack happened and the extent of the damage. I deleted all such wallets from my devices

Exodus wallet has been losing popularity over the years anyway and just like Jaxx Liberty, they will eventually go down the drain.

According to Seth for Privacy, the removal wasn’t due to government pressure. The announcement came a few weeks after a user had lost thousands of dollars in XMR because their Trezor support was broken. Exodus was just not up to par when compared to a proper privacy focused wallet so they threw in the towel, rather than continue spending resources to develop an inferior product and dealing with constant complaints.

Nobody should be using XMR on a closed-source wallet anyway. Doesn't that kind of defeat the point of XMR's privacy if a wallet software can simply collect your transaction metadata and phone home? In fact, I would be more surprised if they were not doing that.

There are more reputable wallets to use anyway, such as Feather Wallet, Cake Wallet, and Monero's official wallet software.

And if we read https://www.exodus.com/privacy/, data they collect when we use their app may be shared to 3rd party.

So my guess will just be Exodus has something going on in the background, because I don't know how discontinuing that will improve usability.

It could be their way to tell us they don't want to spend money/resource to maintain Monero support.

The good feature that I want in Cake Wallet is the advanced privacy option, where you can enable TOR.
Does Cake have have that Tor feature or not?
