Maybe providing some information like "how, why, when, and what" would help us share the right answer based on what you are looking for.

Because in general, the most popular I know is https://www.chainalysis.com/. (not sure if that is the legit site).

WalletExplorer could be one good tool too for individual investigation.

Blockchain explorer. Like https://www.blockchain.com/explorer can help trace the movement of Bitcoin since its a public ledger
It gets harder if it goes through a mixer or a service that can perform similar function.

But the simplest is blockchain explorers. This is assuming you know the address of the coin you are tracing.

Regarding this, you will be given a lot of advice here and such tools will be told that will give you and such people a lot of benefit. I have a lot of thoughts about it, but till now I have not found any good tool about it, nor have I found any solved thing about it, but I will give a lot of advice about it, but I will not find any specific reason.

WalletExplorer, ArkhamIntelligence are some tools that might be able to help you but as mentioned above, if you're trying to trace someone who doesn't want to be found... it's not going to be an easy task, at all, not with public free tools anyway.

If you go to the groceries, you give $50 and get $23 dollars change, and the clerk gives you two $10 bills and three $1 coins, will you try to check if they were stolen? Or will you simply get them and spend them in another shop?

Depends on what target you have, to track somebody, and whether you would like to spend some funds or not.

I want to track funds that were stolen from a MetaMask wallet on the POL blockchain, where USDT was stolen.
Yes, I can pay for some tools.

-snip-

What did you end up with when tracing using PolygonScan? Etherscan or its EVM clones usually tag addresses of exchanges, scammers, etc. did it ever go through an exchange (CEX or DEX)?

How it would be defined as "stolen" or not?

just mentioning your a victim leads you to being promoted with more scams, such as someone in this topic linking you to a phishing site chain'alysis'
that is not the same as most popular legit site chainanalysis
the most popular I know is [chainalysiscom]. (not sure if that is the legit site).
'alysis' is not even a word in english, so big red flag

so be cautious of those offering you paid services now that you admit to being a easy target already

check the sites out for legitimacy
there are genuine sites that can help speed up/visualise the funds movements and many people are linking them to be helpful
but dont pay for anything/download anything before checking

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both researched opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Any advice on Investigation tools for tracing stolen funds?

Scammers could really be as smart with the tricks of stealing crypto funds but can be traced with diligent analysis comprising of networks which the scammers uses to steal the funds.
Some outsmarting kind may use the decentralized hosts such as non custodial wallets but then, noting that the wallet address would in time interact with the centralized exchanges networks would be a point to hold trace the scammers regarded that if blockchain revealing users IDs can be pseudonymous, they Kyc captions will realistically expose those incline.

And when followed bit by bit will get to the root of identifying the scammers but you must follow through the security agencies because they're the authorities that can only demand for the exchange to hand them over specific users documents after providing evidence that the user is involved or linked to scam.

Here are a few other platforms that could help with tracking those funds, but some of them might not offer their services to individuals and I prefer not to vouch [DYOR]:
