Does this record take into account online casinos? I have the feeling that the data used are based on casinos with physical shops because some of the countries there have strict laws when it comes to gambling. They also ensure they keep records of their citizens that gamble for tax purposes. I know of Australia as a country with serious laws about gambling. Unlike my country where our government does not even care whatever you do with your money or where you gamble in, no taxes in gambling and no limitations, so I am wondering how Japan happens to have more gamblers than my country.

I'm not surprised that the US and China occupy the top two spots, respectively. The US has numerous cities where revenues are generated from casinos.
China has been a major investor in many online and offline casinos. Here in our country alone, casino clients are mostly Chinese; it's part of their culture to gamble and be part of gambling platforms.
Many of their citizens are wealthy or belong to the middle class, who can afford to engage in gambling.

US and China I was expecting, but Italy really surprise me. They have lottery history, yes, but nobody talk much about Italy as gambling country.
Australia also shock me small, but I hear pokies and sports betting very popular there, so maybe not so surprising now. They losing most money per person, that say a lot.

For me, Macau is my dream gambling place. Not only casino—whole vibe is different.
Chinese and Portuguese culture mix, big resorts, serious high-stake games.
It’s not like Vegas shining and party everywhere, but more focused, more serious.

It doesn't surprise me as it fits with my own predictions. US has a huge gambling culture or at least how its seen on the movies. People going to Las Vegas to have bachelors party or people hoping to visit that place at least once in their life to try gambling or people not missing to gamble as the pass Nevada.
I know Chinese are crazy in gambling. Gambling has been a part of chinese culture but straightforward gambling is discouraged in mainland china so the flock to Macau and nearby countries just to gamble. Their are gambling cities in Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar that I know of which are intended just for Chinese.
Japanese shows also promotes the concept of youths drinking and gambling every evening for fun. That should be a part of Japanese culture.

Honestly, I was expecting to see some African country here in this list you are sharing with us, specially Nigeria. Lately Nigeria had been in the spotlight because of the millions of people who dedicate much of their time to their gambling and betting.
As a matter of fact, there are hundreds or even thousands of people here in this forum who are from Nigeria and they actively gamble.

When comes to Italy and any other European country, to me it would strike me as a surprise, because I dont think of Europe when people talk about gambling.
It is rather ironic, how both rich and poor countries have significantly volume of gambling, when poor countries are the least suitable to engage in such activities.

Of course the US dominates the industry, it is the home to Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world. There are many movies that happen in Vegas and have a casino theme. The entertainment industry would take a huge hit without Las Vegas.

Japan also isn’t surprising because many Japanese people find peace in gambling since they mostly can’t find anything else to have fun. (Hentai gets boring after some time I imagine)

Italy surprised me the most. It is a European country, people are mostly happy and yet gambling is still dominating. I need to study the reason probably.

To be honest, I'm not surprised because this is information that I already knew a few months ago, but I confess that when I found out about this a few months ago I was wondering how China has so many gamblers? Because the Chinese government is so strict that I thought they banned gambling, at least that's what I've read in the news, for example I know that in China the government does not consider lotteries legal, but I was shocked to learn that China has lotteries.

If you think of the EU as comparable in size to China and the USA - instead of all the countries individually within it, I wonder where they would sit in this table - maybe in one of the top three because it is a fairly rich region and most countries have fairly liberal/loose laws around gambling. I'm really surprised about that Super Bowl number, but the NFL is the number one national sport, I just thought that up until recently a lot of online gambling was restricted in America so maybe they are playing catch up now. China probably fluctuates on this list a bit because gambling is often targeted in anti-corruption drives and crackdowns can scare people off from playing if you consider how the Chinese internet is tracked.

Am not surprised seeing United States as the top of them all, because they have lots of gambling activities there as well as casinos very common and easy to locate, though I don't know maybe the ranking was the lastest or from previous statistics made as Australia making it there looks abnormal despite the ban, but we cannot conclude on that as people can choose to continue gambling even in their own privacy without the government intervention, most of the challenged ones are the physical casinos.

This is interesting, for sure. I want to correlate those things in terms of people's happiness because we all know people who gamble go because they want to be entertained and somehow hit that dopamine rush. What I am looking at is correlating it to the happiest countries on earth.

The last time I searched on this, it's just the same result you got that I also saw online, I searched about this because I was curious that my country will be among the top countries that gamble the most but I didn't even see my country any where close. US have a lot of population and the citizens love to have fun, and just like the things we discuss here, there are individuals that love to double their money through gambling, I believe they have a lot of citizens that are influenced with that mind set of making extra bucks through gambling, so is applicable to the other counties on the list, am not a bit surprise, am just surprise not to see my country on the list because there are billions of gamblers in my country.

The more developed a country is, the wealthier its people are and they seek pleasure in exchange for money. And the people of that country are the most addicted to gambling. For people in middle-class countries like us, it is very difficult to gamble with $200, but for them, it is not difficult to gamble with $2k. That is why people in countries like the United States are very addicted to gambling and they spend a lot of money on gambling, it is natural.

Those who gamble get the most pleasure from gambling. If a gambler is asked to visit a new gambling place, he will certainly welcome that opportunity. I am not very addicted to gambling. But I enjoy gambling a lot. That is why I also want to see the big casino companies of the world. Even though I cannot travel everywhere, I think Singapore is a very suitable country for gambling. It got my attention that Italy and Australia are part of the top 5. I ask myself if historically it has something to do with Italy being well known for the mafious families and regards Australia by the fact that country was stablished as a penal colony from Britain. Gambling has always been a common activity among criminals since past times, so there is some logic to think about that, who knows...

The only lacking continent on the list is Africa. All the others are represented by at least one country, including Oceania, which is a pretty rare continent in most aspects.

Thank you for this topic, it was very interesting to read about the statistics and find out which countries are at the top of the most gambling. However, I would like to discuss what we get in the end: the USA did not surprise me by being on this list, because there is Las Vegas where many people gamble, while being tourists, and this confuses the statistics a little, because I am sure that there are a lot of tourists from other countries in Las Vegas. Therefore, it is impossible to say for sure that Americans are superstitious. While China may well be a country with a gambling population, because they are more superstitious than Americans. Well, the information about Italy is also interesting, but unexpected for me.

We have some few countries that are active gamblers but there names are not on this list, most of them don't even have gambling restrictions like some of the countrithat make the top list and should be viewed closely to checkmate wether this list is accurately composed or not.


Although US is one country that have a large amount of gamblers and sure it made sense to see United States on that list.

The very first time I heard of Las Vegas in the united states was based on gambling related topic or probably a movie when I was just a kid, hence I'm not really surprised of US being top 1, now other countries I expect to be up their is any other country that is as populated and advanced like US, which china never failed to show up and I also wanted to see Germany up there but they aren't in the top 5.

My country is definitely going to be on the list but probably down or amongst the last lol.
