I think it's something we should be concerned about when Bitcoin is at $500,000 or $1 million, so in the next 4 years we might be at levels below $150,000 and so mBTC (mBTC) is the appropriate symbol.

By the way, what does the officially recognized logo of Sat. look like?
Your question answers it. Sat does not have any officially recognized logo.

If you want to include it in a post, you can just type it as sat that people recognized it as.

I hate to break it everyone, but us boomers already voted on this in the 1980's and we officially chose this as the symbol for sats (See below: shading optional).

This is the only right answer for a sats logo if you ask me.  Not a person alive over the age of 40 who hasn't drawn this hundreds of times.  Looking at it now, it screams satoshi.

As dumb as it sounds, with people trying to rebrand "satoshis" as "bits" or whatever the latest proposal is, it might not be a horrible idea to work more on branding sats.

Why do you think Satoshi (Sat) should have a different logo? Is Sat a different coin? The Bitcoin logo is already added on the forum, and you can insert it. I don't think a Bitcoin unit should have another logo when it's not individual. You can use the Bitcoin symbol (logo) to write the Bitcoin unit.
Instead of having another logo - I tend to agree with the basic logo, which is the bitcoin logo for each unit or fraction of it. I can easily write "sat" when I want to call it - the bitcoin logo can also represent it which is preceded by 0.xxxx.

However, I feel a lot of important implementations are still pending on the forum. Theymos don't have enough time to think about the Sat logo, which is really unnecessary.
Yes - there are more important things to do, but someone who likes to modify might still be able to change the appearance of the forum's interface. I don't think there will be any changes regarding the sat logo - so sat won't have a logo on the forum anytime soon.

I don't think it's "a pressing issue"  Smiley
Not at all.

We already have BTC for bitcoin as it symbol there's no need for having a symbol for sats. I think if it was then it would have been done years back by the OG's when they were deliberating on what symbol to use for bitcoin.

Ok. The Sat. symbol is not needed. So be it. But it wouldn't hurt to add the Sat. button to the toolbar, would it?
Of course it wouldn't hurt but the necessity is what should be considered. Things should be done base on their need at the time. Already the full word for it is Satoshi and calling it Sat alone should be able to suffice as a symbol. Don't you think so?

Quote
Taking into account the rise in price of bitcoin, this button will be in demand
Until then. Let not sweat it for now.

If bitcointalk acts on this request an proposes a better way to present 1 sat instead of reformatting Bitcoin's supply to 1BTC = 1 Sat (which is something that is trying to be pushed through at the moment) then it just might serve as a better alternative.

Instead of rejecting the request I think that people should be putting in their suggestions Smiley

Grin I approve of that suggestion, and I agree with you. Even Jack Dorsey is behind the proposal to change 1 sat = 0.00000001 BTC to 1 sat = 1 BTC so that Bitcoin no longer has decimals.

It is 1 BTC will equals to 100,000,000 bitcoin. They want to change 1 sat to 1 bitcoin according to what is in the proposal.

Quote
Specification
Redefinition of the Unit:

Internally, the base units remain unchanged.
Historically, 1 bitcoin = 100,000,000 base units. Under this proposal, "1 bitcoin" equals one base unit.
What was previously referred to as "1 bitcoin" now corresponds to 100 million bitcoins under the new definition.

Terminology:
The informal terms "satoshi" or "sat" are deprecated.
All references, interfaces, and documentation SHOULD refer to the base unit simply as "bitcoin."
The currency code "BTC" is unaffected by these changes, and continues to mean 100,000,000 base units.

But did you know about BIP172 which is about formally defining bitcoin subunits as satoshis? https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0172.mediawiki

That is an indication that BIP177 will not be accepted. If 1 BTC becomes 100,000,000 bitcoin, that alone is confusing because BTC is known as the shot form of bitcoin.

Is this a must do something to the community? No, I don't think so because already we have the BTC symbol already added and it is serving as the sat, and as I know the sat doesn't have officially symbol so it would be ideal we uses the official bitcoin symbol which also represent the symbol we are asking for, if you wanna present you can just add the numbers of zeros required and just include the bitcoin symbol to make it standout as standard as you may have needed.

I start here in the community, I just saw the bitcoin logo, and I guess once we say Bitcoin it's like under the name of the Satoshi, which is people already recognize the word "bitcoin" and not satoshi so it gets part of the norms of the people, incase if we add with the Sat I guess we need to consider at the same time with the other coins but they are into different logos unlike with the bitcoin so quite hard or might add slowdown to the forum or well just my thoughts.

I think there's nothing bad if we have logo for sat, now we like to write Bitcoin in decimal because the price is still not that high to be valued in satoshi. But, once Bitcoin is really high, most people would value in satoshi.

I hate to break it everyone, but us boomers already voted on this in the 1980's and we officially chose this as the symbol for sats (See below: shading optional).

Voted on it in the 1980's eh? Neat trick considering that Bitcoin and its underlying unit - the Satoshi or 'sat' - was created in 2009...
As for the not a person alive over 40 drawing your example 100's of times comment -- I'm 68, been involved in technology since the mid 1970's, and have never seen that symbol before... That said, ja it looks right, now it just needs to be promoted as the globally recognized symbol just like BTC was.

Bahahaha!!! I guess OG meant that rather ironically, than realistically.. ( I mean, I just feel so)  But yeah, whatever -- I get your point too.

Oh c'mon, how did you not see these symbols or whatever y'all call it? This came out like a new font back in the days, then every kid began emulation. I've been grooming kids for years and I can say, there are a lot more of this out there.

I wouldn't necessarily think we need a symbol for satoshi, but since Bitcoin has one, and the unit for every Bitcoin is a SAT, I think OP has a point.

It might be confusing to those have been using Bitcoin frequently enough to clearly define and understand a Satoshi from a Bitcoin, though from a UI perspective I could see how 1 BTC being the base unit would improve understanding for the wider public. I'm interested to see how these improvement proposals play out.
