A friend of mine who we started this crypto race together over trusted his security agency friend by telling him about how he is being Invested on Bitcoin and how he makes daily profits on trading and while that of investment is set for his retirement, the trading provides him the regular expenses. I asked but why being so transparent to this guy? He said... He is my childhood friend and he has always been there for me when I have issues that has to be resolved my an official or agencies from the State or federal level. He further said he told him about his engagement on Bitcoin just in case he has a query in that the public or even the security agencies do figures people who participates on Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies are suspicion of being scam. So he (my friend) was like an already made an open entry statement about his engagement with crypto on or before (just in case) he is being probed of illegality so, his friend can always stand to defend him after early notice.
To me, he exposed himself to danger because if we can trust someone for not to had hurt us all the while, some other problems we might encounter in other form might be projected by that same looking innocent friend while the act is being carried by another person and still, that your friend will pretend standing by you while extracting informations from you. Same time he will be feeding it to the "pawn" or "fall guy" and that means, victimizing you will be easier for them preferably the friend.
So we can imagine if that agency friend decides to compromise the trust, I guess he can easily get his friend on trap if not physically attack to steal his funds, can as well target on scamming him in an undisclosed friendly strategy. Moreover Bitcoin is not illegal in my country which I think was unnecessary of my friend exposing his alignment with Bitcoin rather scamming is just being too rampant which as the course of online scamming, digital investors are sighted as one of the scammers especially involved with decentralized crypto Blockchains.
At this juncture, I want us to look at the potential risk by which this my friend has come to expose himself. Or is there a smart move of him you can commend of him on that?

As long as he trust his friend and confide in him, I don't think that his friend will turn around to betray him. A lot must have happened in the past between both of them that built that trust in them. You can tell people that you trust about bitcoin but not about how much is your portfolio worth.
Alas we will still reveal our private keys and seed phrase to people that we trust and it can be anyone. I keep my bitcoin investment secrets but will advise a close friend to invest and tell him that I am also investing.

With this you have said, i don't think he has gone too far by only telling a friend about crypto,, which is something anyone of us can do without having a second doubt, here is not revealing anything to him about his security and private credentials. So he (my friend) was like an already made an open entry statement about his engagement with crypto on or before (just in case) he is being probed of illegality so, his friend can always stand to defend him after early notice.
The guy is being too forward and to me faster than his shadow, first of all, what is the government regulation over the use of cryptocurrency, some countries, they allow people to use it for their daily transactions and they only made it clear that the banks and any other commercial counterparts under government were not allowed to use it, so this is more of anyone using crypto to be at his own risk, but not an offense against the law to engage in crypto, which i believe if he had known all these, he wouldn't have gone to that extent because betrayal could come by any chance now or later, but am also happy that none of his private information he was able to reveal to this security personnel friend.

It is kind of bad and even terrible practice which destroys your privacy. If people are curious about your investment, your well-being, and guessing you have bitcoin or cryptocurrencies, your life can be taken away any time. There are many Bitcoin and cryptocurrency physical attacks and such careless and noisy people are who at higher risk of being attacked physically or even killed by someone else. If he said Trust and Friend along then it's his choice and no one can comment on it. If you ask me I won't tell anyone about everything except the life partner and to some extent the family but everyone else is not that much trusted in my opinion.
And who knows his friend might be someone who keep his words and that's what encouraged him to be transparent with everything he do.
Privacy is a choice and if we compromise it then we also need to accept the consequences.

Once of the risk of a crypto investor or trader is showing off themselves in public as they engage with the crypto space or even in other investment because this could be a possible subject for a direct attack such as deceiving the person, make target with their money, direct attack to them, or even with their asset. Well sometimes doing white lies is a effective the same time for your protection and your asset. Not all the time we need to make flex with the gains we have being low key is the best as possible.

There's a reason people keep their Bitcoin investments to themselves and not solely because it's a lifestyle. Money has been known to cause enmity between even brothers and to disclose your dealings in crypto to a friend just because this person has been through thick and thin with you isn't really wise IMO and another reason the op gave is because the individual being told is a security official and can cover him should in case sad stories come up is another misstep because there's a tendency for the friend to deny him so his assets can be seized and they can have a share. Some people have lost their funds just because they were excited to share their fortunes that Bitcoin had gotten them forgetting that it's not everyone who they share it with that is happy for them. I think your friend should apply wisdom.

Keeping and trusting friends, there are levels of things to tell them, and things not to tell them. When it is something confidential if when let out, it will hurt you, don't tell them about it, no matter how cool you are with them.
It's like your friend hasn't been stabbed by someone close before. If he has, he won't be making the mistake of letting a close friend know about his private dealings with Bitcoin. Your friend should just be careful with the things he does and his whereabouts. Avoid late-night movement and never go out with his gadget that has his Bitcoin holdings.

The fact is, we should be very strict when it comes to protecting our privacy. Even your best friend can hurt you because they know yoo much. Just be careful who you entrust with details that are meant to be private. Another thing about this case that would make me come to think about it, it that since he only told just one person such about his BTC investment then it would be easier to know who is responsible if things gets compromised at the end of the day. But still it's not advisible for me or anyone go expose their investment to people. Let's be security cautious.

Phew, that was a lot, it is very hard to understand what you are saying or you are using too many words to explain something very simple. That said, many of us already know how dangerous it is to tell certain people that you own bitcoin, this can make you vulnerable to attacks, particularly a $5 wrench attack, this is a topic that extensively covers this subject: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5254941.msg54602500#msg54602500 OP, i think this is what you are trying to say, but i believe it could have been put in a better way than this.

I can say if related to money, we should be careful even if that is a close friend we trust before. We don't know what will happen to him in the future so carefully will be the best thing we can do.
If that is related to the investment especially Bitcoin investment, it is better we do by ourselves because we can learn while investing so we can improve our knowledge to be better.
But if he still believe his friend, that will not be a problem but it is better he doesn't tell about his Bitcoin investment for details.

Trust is not just built in one day, at least you also know about the informations that he was passing to his friend, if he doesn't trust you, he would hid some information from you and if he doesn't also trust his other friend, he will not give the information to him. Regardless, one question I had love to ask him is that what is the reason why he is giving his crypto net worth information to his friends? Is he doing it so that his friends will think big of him or he is doing it because of pride or was it his friend that asked him about it, what for? People put themselves at risk for some stupid reason because in this case, there's no tangible reason to why he is giving out such information. If you trust someone, what has it got to do with telling them your net worth, except you just want them to think highly of you.

I don't see anything wrong, his friend work as a security agency, for sure his friend must know what's happening to him if he ask for help to solve the issue related to official or agencies. Example the state or government freeze his tainted coins.
If you were your friend and want to ask for help to this guy who work as a security agency, how will you explain?
You can't just say "um, the government freeze my money without any reason", that guy must know behind the problem and other identities.
This is the same if you're looking to do tax avoidance, you have to discuss about the consultant and reveal everything even though you left a vulnerability where the consultant could attack you. That's the risk, it's why I said it's better for me to solve my own problem instead of reveal my weakness.

Life does not work that way, life is not a law TV show. Otherwise what is to prevent someone from getting out of trouble by simply having his criminal buddies vouch for him. The person in question is an idiot, and he is rationalizing his mistakes with even more idiocy. Whether it is a friend or it is a foe, you never reveal your crypto. You can provide them some knowledge, but you never talk about holdings, making money or any like that. Tomorrow that "good friend" can get hit in the head by something and turn into a foe, who will give information about you to some local criminal gangs. Trust is not just built in one day, at least you also know about the informations that he was passing to his friend, if he doesn't trust you, he would hid some information from you and if he doesn't also trust his other friend, he will not give the information to him. You have no idea how many lifelong best friendships were ruined over money, even brothers end up trying to kill each other over money. Don't be naive.

Money can destroy even the deepest of friendships. I've seen it not too long ago, personal experience. To be honest, i would avoid telling people anything. Even family can turn sideways when money is involved. You never expect shit like this to happen, but they do, more often that people would like. If you got crypto money, keep that info to yourself

We ought to be careful with how we spill informations that should be kept private, i know about trust in friends with good intentions and those who later ends up back biting someone that trusted in them, its not our call and we don't know the story behind their friendship let the tomorrow we can't tell be the judge. How many know that there are friendship more costly than relationships between family, in some case blood doesn't go as thick as friendship, you don't buy trust or get it free, for each trust should first be earned.

Anyone who is able to invest in bitcoin and have returns must have first learnt about the things of bitcoin. He must learn he is dealing with a trustless network. In this space, we don't trust, we verify.
If you are going to struggle with the issue of trust, it should be about your seed phrase and who is going to know about it and not telling someone your investment plans in the name of guarding against the law enforcement agents.

Or is there a smart move of him you can commend of him on that?
Some friendship relationships are very strong and real that the people can trust themselves with some certain things and details that normally should stay with you or just someone related to you by blood, it can be difficult to believe but it is true. Trust and relationship between some friends are even stronger than the relationship between some partners or even the relationship between siblings and it is sometimes due to the maturity of both parties and their commitment to make the friendship relationship work and long lasting.

At this juncture, I want us to look at the potential risk by which this my friend has come to expose himself. Or is there a smart move of him you can commend of him on that?
I can't speak for your friend and how he trusted his crypto-related activities to him, but it looks like your friend and his buddy has known each other for a long period of time so there is really a valid reason why he trusted his friend that much, let alone telling us that the friend has been with hin in the ups and downs of his life. There is indeed a risk involved but with the risk he has established evidence and witness that he acquired his cryptocurrency in a non-illegal way. I know you are concerned about that friend but it was his choice of action and all you can do is pray and hope that the one your friend trusted won't betray him. It is ok to be vigilant but it should be in the right place. Whether the guy's friend will betray him is for us to see, but hopefully, that guy can really be trusted.
