With his desire to be truthful in case things ever go south. It suggests he’s trying to play it safe and have someone in his camp if authorities start asking questions but at the same time you raise a really reasonable concern. Trust is delicate and just because someone’s been solid in the past doesn’t mean they can’t change or be persuaded by greed or pressure later.

In the crypto world privacy and security are everything. By openly discussing his interests and profits especially to someone connected to law enforcement or security organizations he’s opened a door that could be exploited against him knowingly or not.  Even if that person doesn’t betray him, info could still leak or be used in ways he didn’t intend.

The fact is, we should be very strict when it comes to protecting our privacy. Even your best friend can hurt you because they know yoo much. Just be careful who you entrust with details that are meant to be private. Another thing about this case that would make me come to think about it, it that since he only told just one person such about his BTC investment then it would be easier to know who is responsible if things gets compromised at the end of the day. But still it's not advisible for me or anyone go expose their investment to people. Let's be security cautious.
There can never be any doubt that we cannot have two opinions that we should share our privacy with everyone or those matters that only you should know, if they tell anyone else, they can cause harm to you, so they should be kept to yourself. Your work, your investment, your success should only run in your veins because when it goes to someone else, it will become a loss for you. It will not be profitable for you in any case because greed is such a thing, be it of money, position or fame, that can turn even your coins against you. There is a person in your life on whom you say that I trust a lot, you can do this with your eyes closed. So always keep those things private, which if known to others can harm you, this is the secret of a successful life and these things will help you in your future and in your progress.

As long as he trust his friend and confide in him, I don't think that his friend will turn around to betray him. A lot must have happened in the past between both of them that built that trust in them. You can tell people that you trust about bitcoin but not about how much is your portfolio worth.
Trust is a big word, it can be broken anytime, personally I'll not be comfortable leaving my coins with a friend no matter how much I trust him. I think the trust is better brought home to my siblings. I wouldn't trust my seed phrases with all my siblings, only one of them knows where I've kept it, also the email associated to my various exchanges and how to access them if eventually I'm no more.

Quote
Alas we will still reveal our private keys and seed phrase to people that we trust and it can be anyone. I keep my bitcoin investment secrets but will advise a close friend to invest and tell him that I am also investing.
Definitely we would reveal it, but for me, it cannot be just anyone but family. I can only tell a trusted friend to invest into Bitcoin and can open up that I've investments already, but I'll never show you any proof of my investments since it's undermining my personal security.

Due to the increased attacks on cryptocurrency holders in many parts of the world, I'm beginning to have a change of mind about telling people my activities especially with bitcoin. Bitcoin was created for P2P purposes so I will try to keep it that way for my safety because money changes people. Before we had the passion of telling people about bitcoin, we even shared that knowledge on social media but now I don't see myself doing that because of the risk it portends.

I also have a similar friend, and between us there has never been a problem regarding finances, and I think he is the only friend who can be relied on to be fully trusted regarding finances, so I clearly tell him every time I have assets or crypto that I have. But unfortunately, some other friends that I have cannot be trusted so much, because several times they failed to make me believe, especially in money matters. Therefore, I think what your friend feels is the same as me, he trusts his friend so much because he already has a close relationship, and there has never been a problem regarding finances between them, so I assume that it will not be a problem. And in addition, I personally have not shared the seedphrase or related security keys that I have with anyone, but if I experience something unexpected such as death, then I have told my friend what he should do

A friend of mine who we started this crypto race together over trusted his security agency friend by telling him about how he is being Invested on Bitcoin and how he makes daily profits on trading and while that of investment is set for his retirement, the trading provides him the regular expenses.
Yeah, I know the world is in a precarious situation now and things are really bad but then someone has to trust someone. Like OP pointed out about his friend, the security guy had been there for him in good and bad times. So, I don't think it's such a bad idea to confide in him. The only danger will be if he revealed all to him. There must be something he should hold back on. Reveal some, don't reveal all; especially if it's the part that won't help his course.

Quote
He further said he told him about his engagement on Bitcoin just in case he has a query in that the public or even the security agencies do figures people who participates on Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies are suspicion of being scam.
First, Bitcoin isn't outlawed in Nigeria at the moment. It's legal, it's just that we all are still skeptical about government's view on it, knowing how erratic this government can be on policies.

Quote
So he (my friend) was like an already made an open entry statement about his engagement with crypto on or before (just in case) he is being probed of illegality so, his friend can always stand to defend him after early notice.
It has to be formally written for it to be admitted as a statement in the face of the law. So, his verbal confessions to his friend is immaterial. Besides, crypto activities are recorded and can be traced from the Blockchain. He doesn't need to panic if shit hits the fan. All that will be needed will be to trace whatever information he gives on his crypto dealings.

We probably have friends we believe are worth trusting even with our savings and life.

Also, it may not be a big deal if somebody shares with a friend that he/she has savings in Bitcoin, except if it's a really huge amount. But if it's only a moderate amount, it's like sharing that you're keeping a piggy bank for years and it probably has thousands in it already.

What's risky for me is to appear to strangers as if you have large crypto holdings.

There are good friends over there, but don't trust anyone to expose your secrets of your life saving or your success to them, they can do anything stupid to scam you without considering the trust you have for them, Someone you know some years ago is different from someone you know now because you don't know if that your childhood friend has started following scammers, don't tell anybody about your bitcoin investment progress because some will not be happy with you when you are succeeding more than them in that bitcoin investment.

At this juncture, I want us to look at the potential risk by which this my friend has come to expose himself.
Or is there a smart move of him you can commend of him on that?
Your closest friend today can in the future turn out to be your enemy. Sharing a lot of sensitive information with him always back fire you in so many ways in the long run either when you guys are not in good terms or when he feels you're doing way better than him.

For his case, even if you will in the future need the help of your friend, you don't need to tell him so much before you can get his help, a friend should be able to come through for you even without you exposing to much details about your financial state. Even after you've fed him with the many information, when it's time for him to leave you stranded, he's going to do so as though you don't have a single atom of trust on him. There's a popular saying that goes thus, "someone that will help you won't stress you and this is purely true. A friend that will help you will eventually help you even if you don't make it look so obvious that you're looking for help from him.

We should always observe limitation of how we engage on Bitcoin discussion with the public because to my most experience about people being physically attacked in respect of their digital assets are those who made it clear to persons that they invested in Bitcoin or publicly known to be playing a role in the cryptography space.

We should have learnt enough that this is decentralized Blockchain here that even your relative or someone you trust can change by betraying and leaves you untraceable and still maintains unsuspecion beyond your thoughts.

There is a lot of attractive influence in anything related to funds carrying convinceable contents enough for one you tested and trusted years back to breach your trusts.

I am either not against engaging on Bitcoin discussion in the public but as much as we can always keep our holdings privately with a due process where the government is not against it and you are sure of acquiring your assets in a legit process, then I don't see reason of telling it to others for backup sake like you are trying to inform the government that you are a Bitcoin investor trying to prove your clean mindedness as that of my friend experience with his friend.

And While we also advocates for this anonymous holding of our digital assets, it is still worth telling a trusted one about it and even if it worth entrusting our seed phrase to them, so be it because no one knows tomorrow as life and death may as well be inevitable.
And I hope non of us want to own and orphan wallet at this course but with best of regards, anyone taking the step is highily on his or her own risk.

Note: We are humans that even if we don't push forward to execute our dirt mindedness, there is always that Which glitters like a golden opportunity for us which might ignite us unresistable and then, we might be push forth to take chances of the opportunity.
(Money the root of all evil that we all can not deny going for it)

Yes, there must be very good reason for you to share sensitive information with someone. If there is no benefit from sharing it, then do not do it. Why do something that creates potential problems but you don't get anything from it? I think that some people that say otherwise are wrong. You can live your life with your best friends without ever seriously bringing up your crypto holdings. Nobody needs to do it.

We should always observe limitation of how we engage on Bitcoin discussion with the public because to my most experience about people being physically attacked in respect of their digital assets are those who made it clear to persons that they invested in Bitcoin or publicly known to be playing a role in the cryptography space.
Recently there is a big trend about these security issues, one must exercise caution and not draw attention on you.

Don’t trust people too much and also don’t relay only on yourself if you can share some of your private information you actually need to pick someone you can relay on, the person in question he whom he have trusted and before such trust was built they have been through different stages of life which makes them come to that level.

But if I’m the one in question I can give tips of what I do for a living where my source comes from and seek for legal advise but I will never be open to how much I earn on a daily and how much I have gathered, unless situation where such need to be revealed I don’t consider that to be necessary for his own security.

When investing in crypto, one must be careful about privacy, because of which we make many mistakes, due to which we should think twice before sharing our investments, many times we trust and share our secrets or vulnerabilities with others which should not be done because it becomes a big cause of danger for you later, especially our financial privacy is very important, if you share your secrets with someone, you will create suspicion, so always increase awareness about when, who and how much to tell, you should also be careful about the important information you have at the moment because if it is wrong, you will face disaster. So we should always be aware of privacy.

That is right that we do not trust everyone same amount. We have different levels of trust for different people. There are those rare friends we even trust with all our money. That shows very deep connection and belief in that person.
Your comparison of Bitcoin savings to piggy bank is perfect. It clearly shows that telling someone about normal amount of crypto is not big deal just like mentioning we have good amount saved up in regular bank account.
Online this kind of information can attract bad attention and scams or even physical dangers. It is good reminder that we should share some details with close friends it is smart to keep quiet about large amounts of money from people we do not know well.

True friendship do exist though, their bond must be very strong I guess. With all that is happening in this world today, I doubt if someone could reluctantly disclose he's or her source of income to just any human they come across, so I believe that friendship is an honest, and a trustworthy one. Of course anything that has to do with money is jealously guided to avoid stories that touches the heart.

Although he actually disclosed that fact to he's friend as to serve as an eyewitness should in case he's source of income is queried, and I pray that friend remains trustworthy.

Or is there a smart move of him you can commend of him on that?

I would never commend someone for exposing their finances or financial decisions and activities to someone, no matter how trusted they think the other person is. There are certain things in life that we don't share with anyone, and this is one of those things. Your life-partner can usually be the closest person to you, and maybe the most trustworthy as well in some cases, but sometimes, it's better to even not be completely transparent to your partner about how much money you make, what investments you are making or have made, or anything like that. It's because you never know, life can change at any time, people change, and if anything unusual happens, you should at least have some security for yourself.

I trust my mother the most in this whole world, and that's because I know she is the most loyal person in the world to me, who would never do anything that could cause any harm to me or anything related to me. But I don't even share my finances and financial activities with her because I don't feel it's necessary. She doesn't specifically need to know how much money I make, where I spend it, how much I save, or whether I have investments in Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies or whether I'm running a casino or whatever I'm doing. She can know about a job that I have just like everyone else who see me working, but they don't need to know my income, that's a private thing.

@OP, you are making Bitcoin seem like a secret cult where if you tell anyone about Bitcoin, you die Grin Grin. Come on, we all have that one person we can trust with certain information about us, like our spouses, siblings, a few friends, and children. My family and friends whom I trust know I am investing in Bitcoin, and they have also joined in investing too. The only information I have hidden from them is my private keys. They are not even interested in it, just as I am not interested in theirs.

I understand that you are only trying to be security conscious. However, you should understand when your trust issues have been taken too far. It would be too bad if you cannot discuss Bitcoin investment plans with a friend whom you claim to trust. In fact, that's not friendship.

Bitcoin involvement should be a private affair, when you keep telling people, you undermine your personal security practices since at least one other person knows about your holdings.

You've been indulging in unsafe practices and you'll like to know that hoodlums can still track a victim from online and try stealing their coins. This happened to an only fans content creator. The lady showed her wallet value online, only to get attacked by robbers in her own home.

A truly stupid act when exposing the value of their crypto assets online or while streaming because it's full of risks.
If he is not ready, then bad things will happen, especially if their identity is clearly displayed, otherwise if the influencer uses an anonymous photo and name, maybe it is safer.

Like the case of the onlyfans creator you are referring to named Amouranth who was robbed and then held at gunpoint in her own home by robbers and wanted to get access to her crypto assets amounting to $20 million.

So many criminals lurk when you are too honest about your crypto assets and expose everything with the purpose of flexing without even any preparation.
