He doesn't wish to have Bitcoin. Instead he wishes to forcefully get and scam someone out of their hard-earned coin (maybe) to the extent of killing. There's a clear difference....
The story looks a little vague  anyway but there might have been something between them earlier before it led to that.

The Manhattan case is not one of desperation - the guy is pure and simply a sadistic thief - and a rather bad one at that.

BTW: that townhouse the victim was held in has a $75k per month rent. Just how the perp was able to afford that is one of the things that has yet to come out. What will be more interesting to find out is how/why the victim - described as an Italian tourist - was lured into this. The article says the 2 had ties to a crypto hedge fund in New York, that is certainly NOT the kind of partner to have..

There is always a risk of crime in all profitable actions. I have read many cases related to crypto, especially desires like robbery. I think this is an economic motive. He knows the value of Bitcoin, he knows that he will earn money from his activities. There is always a risk in all our actions (Bitcoin owners). So why should we be careful and remain anonymous, we have seen many cases of crime against crypto owners.

Agreed, this is simply criminal, not desperate to have bitcoin or anything, if it's any other high valuable asset, I bet the robber would do the same.

That’s also what I advise people that chase easy money but most of the time they refuse to listen. It is like I am talking to a wall. These people don’t want to work for some reason. They think they are entitled to get rich. They think they can outsmart the system.

When I say “why don’t you get a job?” They look at me like I kissed their mommy. That’s not a healthy mindset and more importantly, it is dangerous. These people posses danger to themselves and everyone around them. They are like a ticking bomb waiting to explode.

It's totally different, it's criminal intent for him as compare to most of us here who are willing to grind it out years after years specially for average joe investor to accumulate and stack up sats. And with this it's another lessons learned from us to never divulge everything or anything about our Bitcoin investments as we don't know the person in front of us. Maybe he was thinking to steal from us and worst will do everything even to un-alive us just to be able to get our precious and hard earn Bitcoin. And this is not the first and last time that we will hear this kind of crimes to be honest. Again, there are individuals who I don't know what going inside of their mind to do such crimes. This is the more reason why we should keep our crypto holdings private as as much as possible to avoid scenarios where criminals will try to harm us to collect our cryptocurrency. It's sad that you don't know who to trust about the amount of crypto that you own so it is better to keep the information to yourself. People are becoming more desperate to make money this days and they can do anything to get it, we need to be careful about the types of friends and associates that we have, everybody is not happy with you. News of kidnapping has increased tremendously, everyday we hear that people are kidnapped for various reasons and most of them relates to money.

Actually, similar news like the OP mentioned has been found a lot, and even in my country there are similar cases. I think all of this happened not because of Bitcoin, but unfortunately there are still many people out there blaming Bitcoin for incidents like this, even though I think this is all because of the greed from someone who caused this to happen, while the trigger is because the Bitcoin owner let other people know about his investment. Therefore, I do not agree with people who let other people know about the investments they have, especially the Bitcoin they own, because that is the source of the problem I think.

I also hope that we will not reach a point where we will hurt other people just to have Bitcoin, come on, there are still many other ways to have Bitcoin, do hard work, save on Bitcoin, and enjoy the results later. If everyone does it with honest work as you mentioned, then I am sure there will be no chaos or even everyone will feel safe and comfortable from anything.

I can work hard, really hard, even deny myself sleep and doing anything legally and morally possible to own a bitcoin. What I will not do is anything that will compromise my peace of mind, my freedom and indeed my values because I want to be rich. Wealth at the expense of the suffering and tears of others is not a good wealth I will be proud to have and also transfer to my children. Working as a job, running a business or being self-employed can be considered as a good  move as long as both hands still work (or until gets old enough). Small investment (based on the the capacity), small return, still returns. That's going to work definitely, no need to swing very widely. Quick rich making schemes are always gonna put you down into the trouble.

There was a case a few years back in the US where 2 guys wanted to steal sneakers from a girl, so they acted like buyers, contacted her, set up a meeting, she drove there and they shot her dead.

I agree, such a nutcase would also do it if it wasn't regarding a Bitcoin wallet. Such people don't want to work for anything, they just desire what others have and are hateful towards someone else's success. Torturing someone and demanding their money is something only a mentally challenged criminal would do. Okay, if we suppose that he got the money then what? Did he really have the belief that he wouldn't get caught? You need to be extremely naive to think that such a horrid crime would go unpunished.
