A friend called me some month back, lamenting how hard it is to survive in Nigeria, he even said he wished there was a department called ''Survival in Nigeria'' (lolz) that he would have actually enrolled in that department he went further to say that he couldn't even remember any single thing that he learnt from the university he had to even ask me some questions about certain theories we did back then in the university. And this my friend in question wasn't a dullard infact he was one of the most brainy in our class then. After this conversation with my friend I sat back for a bit and began to imagine how we had to figure out things on my own after school. Things like how to deal with pressure from friends and even family, how to handle responsibilities etc. It funny how we spent years in schools, solving equations and cramming big and bogus textbooks all in the name of passing exams and getting good grades, but was never really taught how to survive outside the classroom. Am not really downplaying education here but the question I keep asking myself is education really worth it in 2025, I mean considering how expensive school fees are and after paying this huge fees, one finishes from the university and he or she finds it very difficult to secure a good job, he or she in most cases may not even be given the respect that he or she deserves.
