What I know about the Niger Delta fight was mainly because of marginalization, the Niger Delta region was the smallest region in Nigeria and as at then the government where not given them attention mean while the oil that is feeding the nation was coming from there and so the Niger Delta people said no they will not accept this marginalization and they started fighting by destroying pipe lines where oil was pass through, they may have now requested for there own country so they can stay alone as the first was going on, but the main reason for the fight was because of marginalization.

Well if you say Niger Delta, you are for sure talking about 6 states now (rivers, Delta, akwa ibom, edo, bayelsa and cross rivers). They were never small in the manner you are looking at it, sure population has increased everywhere.
So looking at the marginalization you pointed, it was basically the ijaw area of the Niger Delta which encompasses part of rivers, bayelsa and I think Delta State. I guess you saying that Niger Delta "was the smallest region in Nigeria" means they are now big... Or better I don't really understand that..

Niger Delta is the whole of south-south and ijaw is just a part of the ethnic groups in the Niger Delta.

As of the oil even back then, it was not just the ijaw region of Niger delta that produced oil, I guess they are not even producing up to half of the total production right now..

For those that know this history, when you mentioned Biafra, what first comes to everyone’s mind is the Civil War and those times are the worst times to be a Nigerian living in the South East region because it was deadly that time. The reason why the niger delta are not supporting them is when Isaac jarphet borro saw what this country Nigeria was going to turn into in then days future he told aguiyi iroson and ojuku to use the power they were controlling to split the country because the igbos were still in power so they refused and frame him up then got him arrested that he was sentence to serve in prison, so after the reign of the igbos then they saw that things was not going the way it was they then went back to borrow to help them split the country then borrow turn them down, and the niger delta people stick with Isaac jarphet borro never to join the Biafra that's the reason they refused to join the Biafra in this

You are wrong Ndabagi01, there was a time when the people of Niger Delta wanted a country of there own and they had to fight for it, the people of Niger Delta called them self Niger Delta Republic however the Nigeria government tag them a terrorist the same way they are tagging the biafra soldiers who are still fighting and asking for the sharing of the country a terrorist group, the tagging of Niger Delta soldier a terrorist group was one of the main reason some people didn't know about the struggle but is still in history so please do your research about it very well.
The reason why you feel that it is only the biafran that has fight or ask for the division of the country is because of the civil war that happened, even the Yoruba people had in one time asked for them to be alone as a country.
The Niger Delta people has proclaimed themselves some years back to be a country of there own with there own flag but it was not as loud as that of the biafra.

There's a need for us to understand the thick line between a militant group and freedom fighters, though the two are to be under a freedom fighter category because all they are demanding for is to see Nigeria divides and everyone take part on his own, while the militant group are those that uses arms as defense against the government attack on them, which are also different from the terrorist group that kills indiscriminately on innocent people, the Niger Delta and IPoB are Freedom fighters and should be seen as not a terrorist group.

You are correct about this sir, Nigerian as a country don't need any division, all that is needed is for the bad eggs to be forced out of power, because corruption has eaten deep into the country which makes it difficult for the nation to progress better than what it is now, so dividing the country wouldn't solve the real cause of the challenge the country is going through now.

Honestly, dividing a country can’t solve situations that most of the country are in currently now. Because corruption has totally damaged the vibe of some nations, especially in Nigeria, where I don’t even understand the concept of the constitution and the laws of the country, there’s not any progress in the country; it just remains dull without any changes.

That’s just the truth. If they are able to phish out those bad eggs that are stopping the country from moving forward, things will be changed, but if they can’t do that, that’s how the situation will continue to go badly due to the many challenges.

Your OP should have carried more details because this is a general board where different nationalities visits, a none Nigerian might not understand where your argument is coming from. Like @Franctoshi, noted this thread should be in Nigerian politics and society board but since it's not moved we can as well make comments here. What is happening in Nigeria, is that some regions of the country feels marginalized and wants to go their separate ways, the reason for this is bad governance, when the government is favoring some regions more than the others. I believe that if the leadership is favoring to all the regions nobody will be interested to breakout from the country. There had been a civil war to divide the country but it didn't work out, now it is in the hands of politicians to unite the country but they are clearly not doing enough and the agitation is continuing in some communities.

you're on point. I wish the Nigerian government would really look into this matter. Instead of favoritism thing or what tbwy re after themselves. They should focus on the needs of the people and what will bring togetherness in the country. But no they aren't looking towards that. They only care about what they benefit, their gains. And it's really showing great negative impact to the people in the country. I hope Nigeria becomes one again with no corrupt governance.

Dunamisx you are correct, the Niger Delta and IPoB are Freedom fighters, they are asking for division because the country is not working and may not work if together.
Nigeria where never one we where joined together by the British, and I will continue to blame them for the bad situation of Nigeria, if not for the amalgamation that Lord lugard carried out by joining the South, east, west, and north part to make one Nigeria we won't be in this situation.
How on earth will you join people from different cultural background and believe together and force them to become one country how will it work, this people has different believe and way of life.
But since we have been together for years now our problem now is bad leadership, our leaders are very corrupt and it has gotten to the grass root even if this country is divided into 4 I still believe nothing will change because corruption has eaten dip into us.
All we need now is good leader that will come as a savior.

It's true that the Niger delta agitated for a country of its own , which was lead by Isaac Boro,  but it failed to come to existence. Then the Civil War which was for the creation of Biafra which also failed. I am really not concerned about the country splitting,  because I still feel that its still the same politician that will  continue to rule and either Biafra or Nigeria will still remain the same, until the citizens and the government decide to take a stand and make the country a better place.
I also believe that the reason the Niger delta do not support Biafra is the feeling that they will be minority group while the south east will be the majority,  so it still the same old story for the Niger deltas.

But do you know that as Nigerians, we don't see ourselves as one? That's because we were never one from the very beginning. Nigeria is to big and has diverse cultures to continue to as one country. Okay you think if the present political class are removed from power that the problem of this country will be solved? Well I don't think so. The Easterners don't see the not as their brothers and same thing goes to the North, West and South. Our different cultural heritage makes it practically impossible for us to coexist as one. Every region will do better on their own, just take that from me.

Except by military coup, i don't think with the way of how the democracy is going on, there could be any way the country could divide, because those in its leadership are not ready to allow the military take over except by force, the structure have been planned in such a way that they are well prepared to takeover what has been the most valuable of the human right and which is their voices, these people are not terrorist, but freedom  fighters, because they know what they want and need to be on their own separate ways than under the leadership of government taking their ancestral inheritance.

There are more ethnogeneous nations in the world than Nigeria, and those ethnic groups that makes up the nations do still coexist peace under a national ideology which makes everyone viewing themselves as one people. I don't see why the case of Nigeria has been different except that the politicians has been the ones fueling this ethnocentric and religious consciousness among the common citizens creating division in the country with frivolous issues.

Unless you just want to create a global audience to your thread, otherwise there is politics board on the Naija local board and that is where this topic fit into, bringing it up here won't help you in any tto get the contributions you need in this discussions since global board is made up people from different countries around the world, between Biafra have been cancelled and there was no winner or losers, so that close the case, let us not bring matters that the government negotiated and sealed a deal on in any ways.
