While growing up, it is common to see young men going to learn technical or vocational skills in Nigeria. They will become apprentices in mechanical, electrical, carpentry,  plumbing, vulcanizing, and other skills. If you go to this workshop, you will see many youths there learning skills.

These days, the number of young people who are learning this handwork has reduced drastically. These workshops These days are somehow empty and you will see mostly men in their forties and fifties.

I was discussing with a mechanic today and he told me that the youths are now focused on online jobs. He said many of the apprentices who came to learn skills dropped out. He claimed that most of them are impatient and want quick money.

He claimed that these youths are now focused on G and Naija bet. I don't know how true his reasons are. How you reason am?

He is saying the truth because even where I live, workshops are now complaining of their apprentice not serious with their works and always in search of updates to make them quick money. This is not even about online jobs they can venture into and earn money even while still going to have this vocational skills in the workshop. They just want to be told of some certain kind of leaks, to make them make quick money before it becomes outdated. This has been what has been happening recently around.

I am not against apprentice getting acquainted to online jobs to help them better, but in search of leaks or porous sites to quickly get money from before they become casted is what they want. If they are no more receiving those benefits after enjoying the offers initially, they now begin to think of other illegal means to make money through stealing, scamming, pretense and other illegal activities.

Having online jobs to commend your physical job is not bad but it is the way they’re so desperate to have one when no room for it is already available that is scaring and how they don’t even want to wait for the legit ones to come through patiently learning the process that is also alarming.

This is what is happening right now in the country, many youths want to get quick money because of the way society values and respect people with money without asking questions about where there source of wealth is coming from. People are killing others for rituals and selling their body parts to acquire money. Online jobs are mostly cover ups because most youths are no longer having any patience with looking for money. It is getting scaring because soon we would not have any decent youths anymore that makes money the right way. Apprentice learning works are still happening but it is only for those that are not exposed to the global world and the social media lifestyle that makes many youths wanting to be rich while they are still young. When they get exposed they join other in fraud and other scamming practices that destroys their future while making them rich for a short while.

Brother man i wont lie o, in this generation do you know what it means to do work with someone for goood 7 years before you become your own oga?? It requires deep patience and sacrifices. Even those that went to school are lamenting that they wasted 4 - 5 years in school as they find it difficult to secure a job after graduation. So its a trend that will deepen more as time goes by.
There could be lots of things leading to this, the stress, they payment, the societal demand on a male child, Brokeshaming etc.
Many people will opt to what will give them quick money

The reality be sae people are no longer interested in learning skills compared as em d many years ago. I don't know how the future of our country go later be if everybody begin to lose interest on learning skills to focus on G and Naijabet. You know sae na big problem our country go d so, and we need to save ourselves and our future from the mess that is about to befall us, so that we no go be in a situation that em get some certain things wey we wan do, we no fit find people wey go do am for us. That wan no follow

Hmm this matter I no think say na news at all at all. Cuz e dey very noticeable for almost everywhere of which the online itself they testify.
Anyway, to be more correct for this matter. Na to put am say the number of youths, even under youths(-18) wey no wan learn handwork dey higher than ever before.

Nairabet no suppose stop person from learning skill na.
A look into this matter go show cases like impatience, ignorance, disobedience, arrogance and carelessness etc of this youths.

Some of them na the major case on the topic wey I been talk about (Pretend entrepreneur online)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5545942.msg65455893#msg65455893

Them carry online 4 head wey be say them no even gat any thing to offer except to make people click by any means (click baits) and or spend their hard earned naira for stuff wey them no dey even do.

On this our 9ja don Shatter already. Because na youths be the future!!
Just as the fall away from handwork begin na so fall away from farming happen too which actually na part of handwork in a way too.
The same youths no gree farm. All this I believe na em start waiting we dey face now! (around 80s I guess). Until now wey agriculture no even follow for handwork and the ones wey dey as handwork now many no dey reason based interest on quick fix.

To say the  effects Don befall use already but more heavier than this go fit still happen.
If you analyze, these fall away from learning handwork /farming be the major reason wey make youths engagement for electoral violence increase. As politicians dey one side dey make getting of jobs difficult for graduates(school and professional education).

Youths na the answer some how. We say na democracy we dey follow, na for youth to disengage from some things!!
This go for sure help our 9ja fit get chance to reclaim our lost glory and even more!

Na wetin we take the counntry for, as e be say our youths want dey count on multimillion deal at a young age make dem no fit settle for this mini jobs as handwork. Internet also done bring many jobs for our youth to do to help them earn money, plenty freelance job, community service, crypto currency trading and many other things follow for wetin make our youths no longer want they put body for handwork, but make we forget say e go hard to see young guy dey serve this period some of them already get the hand work and dey just decide to hustle outside, dey get where to fall back to incase the online hustle no pay.

Money na the main thing we dey find, as long you dey get am make the source no mind, be it benefits from going to school, handwork, business or online jobs, make e be say u dey earn and able to provide.
The way the situation be now in every of the country is good for the youths to find their way on how they can get money. Since the government jobs is hardly to get and not everybody learn the handwork when their still in child, and that’s why after they’ve grow up they didn’t bother to suffer their self to learn handwork which is why they do focus on the online stuff as the works is very scarcity.

But it’s good for each an every youths to get another side hustle apart from the online so that even the online is not more paying again they can get back to their side hustle that’s the main definition of the handwork, but some of the people didn’t understand the concept of the handwork; that’s why they rely on hustle only.

nah this way plenty of us take start out life as youths growing up and never for the moment get person to put am for school. And this norm help plenty of us to stay self dependent even after we com di start schooling later on.

But today, every pikin wan ansa graduate, the ones way never feat enter school no gree go use that waiting period learning handwork. Tomorrow a lot of this generation youths go get plenty things to regret for when them done the near 40s.

Like this for my church, furniture scholarship slot  dey open for one individual since last year till now nobody done agree to take the opportunity. Nah to the press phone saying them being yahoo boys na them prefer.

People have really evolved than before and without doubt is very expected because we cannot feel that people will continue to live the way they usually do before, however I feel that technology was the reason for that and if somebody is using it to do a better thing for themselves then is better than any other thing. Perhaps the reason why the mechanic person loss some of his participants could be that they got another real paying job somewhere because is not easy to be learning with empty pocket on this hard economy and cannot have any money to buy a little basic need for themselves, though there might also be another reason why they decided to leave but I'm just emphasizing the reduction of unemployment technology has brought for people but still some are still learning and I have visited a workshop to purchase some items and I noticed more 20 persons there are learning the skills.

On the contrary, despite how technology is advancing and how the world economy is crumbling.
Technology needs releva relevant skills to strive.
Economy needs relevant skills to boom.

The matter here be say our young men dey loose interest because them wan make am shap shap.e Technology self na him join dey make our young men lazy like dis o.
Na him make every body dey find the easy way to make am.

You don hear of this statement "wetin your friends do, follow them do?" That statement no be for bad o but from how the country don dey, e don turn to statement wey transcribe to doing anything possible to get the money. These days time no dey for the youths to go learn handwork because to them e go look like say them dey waste their time in doing something wey no go dey profitable. One funny thing wey some of these our youths no understand nah be say If nah HK them wan go, them go still need to run apprenticeship, get clients for the person wey bring them and even when them start to pick, the whole thing no go be their own but still them prefer that one because anyhow when them hit, everywhere go dey okay but the difference between these guys for HK and the ones wey serve for mechanic, carpentry and the rest be say there's dignity in the latter whereas the former, them dey usually hide dey do their thing.
I believe say with how the times don change, the skill wey every one wan put eye nah digital skills as e dey encompass every aspect of one's life. Which is a good thing but then when you run into these ones wey look so profitable, e dey usually dey expensive.
The youths of this country need to understand say education dey important but to get skill also important too.

Na true na why e good make parents enroll their children for skills early than when they go reach a certain age before they go enroll them, because the way this our generation dey go, small children dey think about money pass adults self, na why them dey involve themselves for yahoo and all that just to get money.
And as them dey like that them no dey reason to work under person, instead they want make people work under them, they just wan flex, forgetting say nothing dey last forever for this world, so any opportunity wey person get, make them grab am but no be to dey rush life, because them fit kpai for the process self.

He claimed that these youths are now focused on G and Naija bet. I don't know how true his reasons are. How you reason am?

I wouldn't say this is entirely true, because we still have youth engaging in learning skill, but it has really reduced drastically compared to the 90s. I think the access to internet in our country really contributed to it.  The internet is a very good thing, because it has a lot of benefits,  one which is the online jobs your mentioned .
The major problem why most youth are not interested in learning skill is that they want to get rich so quick,  that they venture into G and other unthinkable things just to make money, but I am very sure that we still have youths in this country that are really engaging in learning skills and trade.

Learning skills in Nigeria is completely waste of time nowadays because alot have been going on in the country. We should always put it at the back of our minds that this country is in ruins already, what more can be done to undone the evil men do in the country? Absolutely nothing other than accept the fact and keep working hard enough for survival.

Appreciate every source of income because things do fall apart in the country. There we have the common man who's struggling from day to day to feed and we have the top class where they eats good food and earn well, they drive the best exotic card. I've learn to lived in the country and completely adapt to every existing features in the country.
i accept your fact but i must say learning a skill is not a waste of time in the country because i am also a skilled personel and i am enjoying what i learned so my advise to everyone is in this hard economy everybody should at least have a skill to feed on first

I don't think that youths are no longer learning skills jobs anymore because with the current economy of Nigeria, learning a skill or handwork is very important. It is not everyone that will go into online jobs, we need mechanics to fix our cars, radionic to repair our electronics and the rest.

As a matter of fact, if you go to higher institutions, you will see that most of this skills are also learned there. Down here in my environment, I still see young youth on apprenticeship. If all the age men in this skill jobs die, who will repair our cars and render services on other skills. If you are a professional in your skill, you wouldn't bother on how to survive in a harsh economy.

Many Nigeria’s youths now aspire to white collar jobs entrepreneurship or careers in tech, entertainment, and social media, which often seem more prestigious and promising than traditional trades.
Like tailoring, carpentry, or mechanics are often viewed as less prestigious.
Online platforms glamorize lifestyle associated with quick wealth, influencing youths expectations.

But make we no lie people still dey learn handwork na just say no too loud like before for my area self I still dey see small boys dey fellow Oga learn work even in universities many Dey learn skills on the side the truth be say everybody no fit do tech or online work country hard so any legit skills we fit bring daily food na blessing to the person..

This is true, but I can say it's not every parts of Nigeria.
There are still states where they don't joke with learning a skill or a trade, they make it compulsory for their sons and their daughters to get substantial skills that can make them earn a living. Some of those states have not really known about Bitcoin, and even if they have heard of bitcoin, they only see it as a scam and as something that is isn't real. Such states, you still see that there is a little difference in the way their youths behave, and in as much as evil is everywhere, there are some places in Nigeria where evil is worst. I don't want to start mentioning names of states like that, but from your residence, you can see where crime is high.

Op the main thing be say everybody want quick moni and if no be wetin person no go fit get that cash fast I no see we youth getting involved. Just like men wey like drink, if where them dey go no be where them go jolly drink and all that fun related them no fit near there at all. To learn hand work good oh but many people no really know why and na now them don dey see reasons why e good to learn hand work especially some wey go service, after school nah wetin remain? White collar job abi? No be for this country, me if I get that opportunity no be to go learn work instead of to go dey carry files dey waka under rain and sun, some people dey lucky while some no dey lucky and peer pressure follow why some no wan learn hand work.
I like as you take address this mata because if we look am, nah true. I just dey tell my guy today say if no be how the government don comot body for ensuring say our youths get gainful employment after school, I no see how them go dey reason to dey do yahoo.

I come dey talk say imagine say our government fit scrap Tertiary education and those finish secondary education go go immediately learn a skill, wetin wan make the economy dey as e dey because now wey e be compulsory something, no body fo get excuse as to why them no get handwork but such a thing no go happen because them (the government) want a situation where them fit dey siphon funds using education as excuse. I dey hear for news when them dey do budget for the year and the amount them dey allocate give education yet we still dey get complaints.
