Hello everyone.

I recently started working on AI video generative apps. Since I recently bought a 5090, I was happy to notice that it was progressing much faster than with my old RTX 3090.
However, I was bothered by the wattage consumption and the heat generated by the graphics card under load.
Then I came up with the idea of using the Nvidia app to initialize my RTX 5090 by only 67%, which caused the wattage consumption to drop to 400 watts instead of 560-600 watts.
This surprised me because the AI generative app I use, LTXV in Comfy UI, completed 99% of the AI tasks with full initialization without any problems, despite the low initialization and consumption of 400 watts.
My question is, could I mine crypto this way and increase my earnings? After all, this throttling would increase my income by 33%, if not more if possible.

And if so, this letter would also be advice.

I wish you continued good luck!

Best regards

Have you checked the sticky thread?

Please read: BITCOIN MINING INTRO & RULES OF THIS SUBFORUM - READ BEFORE POSTING

About your question, it can potentially increase your earnings if you underclock it by 67%. I don't know how this Nvidia app works, but try using MSI Afterburner to adjust the power consumption with a bit of adjustment for OC; it is way more advanced than the Nvidia App.

I had black screens before I manually adjusted the fan speed. Now I can go to 100% and nothing happens, but as soon as everything runs automatically I lose the picture and the fans spin up even though the graphics processor stays cool. MSI Afterburner didn't help either.

Unfortunately, MSI Afterburner doesn't do much more than the Nvidia app, although Nvidia App does have errors. I don't want to overclock, I just want to keep power consumption low.
In a certain sense, this should work with any mining system during initialization. Let's say I reduce power consumption by 50% and use only 10,000 watts instead of 20,000 watts, and reduce mining efficiency by a maximum of 10%. Then I'll still have a gain of 40%.
But the interesting thing is that I think that if you can reduce the initialization to 10%, the Cuda cores will still work at 100% because they only need a fraction of a nanosecond to react, and they will still offer over 90% efficiency.
Which roughly means that if you increase the frequency of the power supply itself, you could expand it even further.

I don't know how you use MSI Afterburner but it should be the tool you need to adjust the OC and undervolt your GPU. There are some posts on Reddit that I think will help you learn how to use it to undervolt your GPU; they also include the performance and efficiency results. You can copy the settings, and let's see how it improves the GPU efficiency.

Here read this: RTX 5090 FE undervolt results

That's a completely different thing. I don't want it to be undervolted, I don't want it to draw ''more'' power. That doesn't depend on the voltage it's exposed to, but rather on how much power is required.
You could basically set it to 0 and it would still draw power.

For example, I still have 2500+-3000 MHz and 14,000 MHz speeds even with a 400-watt limit.

It's complicated, but I'm pretty sure that for individual tasks, half of the watts simply flow through as a passive flow because the graphics card initializes everything to full power, which can be activated in milliseconds, which is already lacking at this point in terms of what's needed and what's not needed because not everything can work at the same time.

Basically, I only need to activate the CUDAs to complete the requested calculations. This requires almost no power, and the lack of reducing the initialization limit is minimal.

Undervoltage is something completely different, I absolutely lose control.

Power is a function of voltage. Lowering the voltage reduces the power but can introduce other problems if the voltage is too low.
Some miners have an intensity setting. In most cases it's set autromatically for for each GPU model for best performance but can be set manually.
In either case it's trial and error.
