Creating a bc1 Bitcoin wallet

I downloaded Electrum because it is supposed to support bc1 wallets.
Every time I create a new wallet, it makes one starting with something like 0x9.
I'm not given a choice of what kind of bitcoin wallet.
Does anyone know how to specifically create a bc1 bitcoin wallet?

What type of Electrum do you have that generates an EVM address?

Try downloading & installing via the official website: https://electrum.org/#download

You can also get the bc1 address from well-known software wallet such as Trust Wallet, UniSat or OKX Wallet. However, they are not as safe & good as Electrum, use them at your own risk.

Electrum does support bc1 (Bech32 native SegWit) addresses. Make sure you did not choose some other script type during wallet creation.

Bech32 starts with Bc1. Legacy, for example, starts with 1. There is another that starts with 3.

Electrum does not support addresses like the one you mentioned: 0x9. That seems like an Ethereum or Binance Smart Chain address.

When you are setting up the wallet, make sure that you do not select the legacy option (non-segwit address).

As others said, this is impossible to get a 0x9 address as that's for EVM networks. I know that goldkingcoiner said something similar here but it's definitely worth saying twice - Please ensure that you got your electrum client from the official website at electrum.org, as it sounds like you could be using a malicious client, as afaik electrum has not ever created an evm version of electrum.

Bech32 starts with Bc1. Legacy, for example, starts with 1. There is another that starts with 3.

Electrum wallet support Bech32 addresses and even stopped to show Legacy and Nested Segwit addresses a long time ago. There are other wallets that support Bech32 as mentioned in Bitcoin Wiki.

If you are using a wallet like Trust Wallet or Safeal Wallet then the Bitcoin address will definitely start with bc1. From what you said, I understand that you did not open the Bitcoin address, you may have extracted the Binance Smart Chain or you may have extracted the Ethereum address which starts with 0x9. If you are using Electrum Wallet then the Bitcoin address will also start with bc1. But if you try hard, you will definitely be able to extract everything and extract everything correctly.

I'm actually surprised getting to know that an electrum wallet can create this kind of address. This should probably be an Ethereum address and although there's electrum wallet for Litecoin, I've not seen any that supports Ethereum, so it's obvious it's a scam of a wallet and since you've installed it already, no one knows the extent of damage it has done.

I'll recommend changing the operating system of that device totally if it's a computer or flashing it totally if it's a mobile device.

Also could you share the source of your downloads so others can beware and apply caution?

Wasabi Wallet supports both bc1q (native segwit v0) and bc1p (Taproot) addresses. Electrum uses a unique seed format (non-BIP39), but it should still be able to generate native segwit v0 addresses.

In addition to what’s been said by others, Let’s assume you downloaded a wrong Electrum from malicious source, we have to assume that there could have been a possibility of malware been downloaded on your PC so while you might think of downloading a new wallet (even if not Electrum), you should also put that into consideration and probably reloading your device OS

Is getting a good anti-malware or anti-virus software not cheaper and less time consuming than reloading the device os? And besides, the op didn't mention whether it was on pc or mobile device he downloaded the mentioned app/software, and as a matter of fact, I am personally assuming that he downloaded on mobile, specially android since it's easier to download a fake phishing app from Google playstore.

The chances he downloaded a fake version of electrum wallet from his mobile playstore is high, and if this be the case, then what he has to do is simply uninstall the fake app, go into file folder on the device and locate the folder created by the app and delete it, then he can download the original app and proceed to creating the desired wallet.

Well they are effective to some extent..
So if they detect it, WDYT need to be done after? Just cleaning up the file? And that’s  if they detect it in the first place ..

Android  and IOS are typically   OS , Factory resetting  should clear all files..

AFAIK the  chance of downloading fake version of Electrum on  Playstore and AppStore is actually  slim but still a good practice to navigatethrough their official website, unless the app get replaced after installation..(don't know how possible that could be..).
