Thanks theymos, I was suprised with the dm this morning. Now I am officially a Merit source, this is likely needed  to boost our local activity on our PH community and also to any other users shown quality posts I will be seen on the forum. Rest assured Id used those smerits wisely.

I would like to apply for merit source for Local Philippines. Ive been a forum user since 2017 and manage to cope with the introduction of merit system to rank up.

To all other merit sources I appreciate if you got any tips for me as a new MS. Theymos send me a guidelines already but your thoughts are also highly needed for a newbie MS. Thanks.

Ignore merit beggars. Once you give in to their requests, many more will start doing the same.

I will just supplement EFS's point by saying that whenever I had a change to my sending merit bank, then I would tend to divide the number by 30.. so that I could get the average per day, so if my merit source were to get changed to 100 smerits, then I would figure out to make sure that I spend around 3.3 (and slightly more than 3.3) smerits per day. .. that way in the next month the smerits will get replenished at a somewhat even rate.. .. Because of life activities, it tends to not be completely possible  (or realistic) to have the smerit source replenishment exactly evening out.. but we can just try our best to spread out our rate of spending our source smerits so that maybe they replenish across the month rather than in lumps. 

There is also a need to consider how many more merits that you might receive as a merit source, so if you are spending 100 smerits every 30 days, then maybe you might end up receiving around 1-2 extra merits per day, or maybe an extra 30-50 smerits extra per month... so then you might consider spending 4-5 smerits per day from a combination of your source and your personal bank, since if you might receive an additional 30-50 smerits per month, then you would have an additional 15 to 25 sendable merits from those...

And you can also create systems to see when you spend your smerits so that you know when they are replenishing, which they are replenished exactly 30 days on the second that you had sent them.

But I agree with the idea of making sure to spend the whole allotment from the first 30 day allotment within the first 30 days, especially in the first 30 days after they have been assigned, and then after the first 30 days, you can spend the smerits as they come in (as they are replenished), more or less... plus perhaps a few smerits from your own personal bank so that your own personal bank does not become too large.  

I usually like to try to keep my personal bank from getting too high so I try to spend my personal bank down to a certain amount, in a relatively timely manner, but sometimes if I am not spending source smerits fast enough, then the personal bank might grow to larger levels than what I would prefer to have in the personal bank...so I sometimes will purposefully have to spend the smerits from my source to get it to zero to be able to spend from my personal bank (of course, the source has to be at zero first before being able to spend smerit from the personal bank) just so that the personal bank doesn't end up piling up too much.

Of course, with the extra smerits you will likely need to become more liberal with your smerit spending patterns, so sure it is great that you are saying that you will spend your smerits wisely, but having more smerits likely contributes to your needing to reconsider your definition of "wisely" since sometimes the source smerits will start to pile up from replenishing, especially if you are not able to visit the forum for several days or even a week or more.

Yes thanks for this advise EFS, the first smerits Ive spent are from my merit application posts Ive found meritables. Yes I know it will need to be balance with the strict and generousity for merits. I highly appreciated this thought.

This is the longest advise I read since then. Thanks Ive read all points given and I love the way you spefically point out the replenish of the smerit spents. I have starting 50smerits to spend as a new MS.

I guess keeping tabs on my smerits usage will always matter as a source. I learned a lot anf thanks for this awesome tips. Thumbs high!

Very nice to see some members being tapped as new merit sources, even if Theymos took his sweet ass time about it and remained silent during the months and sometimes years where application threads were being made.  As long as he finally did something positive about the merit system, I'm satisfied.

I think the forum badly needed some new merit source blood, as there's been some attrition over time and definitely some burnout among some of the older sources.  So congrats, cryptoaddictchie.  You'll get your allocation of sMerits but I gave you a few just to keep in your private reserve.  Believe me, you never know when you're going to need them.

I think being a Merit Source is quite a big responsibility, and at the same time, I respect those people who take on such volunteer duties. What should a Merit Source do? It is reading, a lot of reading, with a lot of time allocated to the forum. People who are so loyal to the forum deserve respect. My congratulations, OP. I think the forum will get more participants, those who despaired because they remained unnoticed will return and become active again.

Nice one, to be a Merit Source is not good aasy because after the application you have to wait for years and even the years, the applicant is not guaranteed to be one but the lucky ones would be and luckily you were among the lucky ones. I also join others to celebrate you. There are different ways to distribute smerits. You can create a thread for users to apply like the way hugeblack and fillippone did/doing and also create a thread to review posts like the way The Sceptical Chemist did or meriting Posts on your style.

My personal suggestion is to spend, as other have suggested, a little more merits per day than those granted by your allowance. SMerits pile very quickly when you are a merit source, you got your earned smerits as well and life can take toll on your forum activities.
In short: for once, the suggestion is:” spend, spend, spend.
